Random opinion on why the game is bad now

Hi,

yall probably heared something like this a million times, i never did anything on any forum ever, but i just felt like typing this, so imma probably not answer, get into discussions or whatever.

I really liked Overwatch when it first came out in 2016, even though i did not really play it until the 4th season, i still had fun whenever i played.
However, the most fun i had with the game was when i played during Season 4 to like Season 7 or 8. I never really played alot (because i had other things to do) but when i played with my friends we always had a really good time and every game felt like it was determinted by skill and team-coordination.

However, ever since the beginning of this year, i feel like the game has changed to the worse. And i dont think thats because of reasons people like Seagull mentioned, since he focused alot on Hero-Comps and Heroswapping. I dont think that that is a problem at all. Overwatch has always been around picking the right Hero at the right time and Counterpicks, so i dont so that as a problem, especially not for the average player, who is Platinum or below (~85% of all the players).

I think that Overwatch has 3 major problems that made the game bad and unfun for the normal player, that likes to queue ranked whenever he feels like it and wants to have fun in the first place, even when he is slightly competitive.

The first problem is the Overwatch League.
And i know that might sound weird since the OWL has done sooooo much for the game and its great that it has a relevant competitive scene, powered by Blizzard and what not BUT the problem with having the OWL is, that the entire game, all the balance changes and all the patchnotes will now start to be made with the OWL and most of the time only the OWL in mind.

If you dont know what i mean with that, let me explain.
Blizzard now has the responsability to make the OWL Teams and players happy by balancing the game as much as possible FOR THEM. However, Top-Tier OWL play has nothing to do with the typicall Solo-,Duo-, or whatever queue experience. No one will run 4 Tanks, 2 Healers for 5 hours straight because it is fun, that will just not happen in the normal game for about 80-90% of the players, probably even more.

However, Blizzard now has to balance the patch around that “Meta” because that is what people play in the OWL, so if that is not adressed, the OWL becomes boring, the teams become mad, the players become mad, they leave, sponsors leave, and so on and so on.

So ever since the OWL exists (beginning of the year), is also the time, where alot of people started saying that they do not enjoy the game anymore (thats no coincidence).
Other games have the same problem, League of Legends for example has some Champions that dominated the “normal game” but are untouched because they are irrelevant in Pro-play. Same with OW.

Reason two and three are entangeled in each other alot, so i am going to mention then both at the same time.
Blizzard as tried to make the game more “noobfriendly” ever since the game came out, which, to be fair, is not a bad thing in generaly, however, the way they did it, is terrible.

Because they are trying to take away the FPS aspect of the game more and more. Dont forget, this game is a HeroSHOOTER. The problem is, that alot of Heroes, especially new releases (Doomfist, Brigitte and Moira) all do not require aim to play successfully.

Now the problem with those often called “no-skill” heroes is, that you can play them successfully really quickly because of their easy mechanics and oftentimes, non-counterable abilites. To the three already mentioned Heroes i would like to add Junkrat, Symmetra, Torbjörn and Mei.

By the way, i am going to mention here again, we are talking about the normal player, Diamond or Pro’s. We are talking about Bronze to Platinum. And yes, we all know that these Heroes can be countered “easily” and i know that some of you wannabe proplayers who are “Hardstuck Platinum” think that all the peasants who can’t counter these heroes are bad but you also know that if you were really good, you wouldnt be Plat. So sit down and stop pretending to be good. Thanks.

All of these Heroes are very similar in why they are problematic.

  1. They do not require alot of skill to be successfull with.
  2. Their mechanics often have no counterplay
  3. In order to be successfull with other heroes you need to be way better at these, to even have a chance.
  4. They are frustrating to play against.

Let me just give you some examples with the heroes mentioned.
Doomfist!

  1. Does he require alot of skill?
He definitly is not a “low-skill” hero but you can be efficient with him rather fast.

  2. Counterplay?
No. There is no direct counter to his Right-Click fist bash or his Q, if he Q’s on top of you, you are dead.

  3. Compared to Tracer, Zarya, Soldier even, yes i think its harder to be efficient with all of them, then with Doomfist.

  4. Ever bin hit my a Doomfist Q?

You can do this with all of the mentioned heros and you will see that all the Heroes match these criteria.

And thats what i think the problem really is. Because Blizarrd is scared about losing bad players, since they can not perfom really well against better players, they are implementing mechanics and heroes like the mentioned ones, which you can be efficient at very easily and fast so they do not feel bad. By the way this is the same thing that happened with WoW.

Now if you actually got here, you either agree with me, or you dont or you do partly. But i think we all want the same thing, a good and fun game, which, sadly Overwatch just is not anymore.

So i would really like to see no hate when somebody actually comments on this, maybe someone who has the power to change things, reads this and agree’s and is able to change something.

Also sorry if you got triggered by my “wannabe pro”-rand or my grammar, punctuation or whatever. I didnt really look over that, since i really dont care.

Also one other thing, if this somehow gets attention, please make it a meme.

Thank yall for reading this have a nice day, tell your mom you love her and start listening to more music from Queen.

Bye

Firstly I believe you mentioned only two points so did you forget something?

  1. I think this is a good point and is true in a very large amount of games but honestly I think that owl is fantastic it brought me back and probably loads of others and made it simple for us to watch the esports. I think that actually in this game the focus on top 1% players isn’t a huge issue as I think the meta and what is predominately played in lower is quite similar. Finally I don’t agree with the evidence of people leaving the game about the time of overwatch as I think and may others think that the game started to detirerate after season 3 or the start of dive comp and the time you mention really wasn’t I believe a genuine time of mass leaving from community.
  2. I really don’t particularly agree with this point, I’m diamond but spent most of my time in platinum and I play heroes that don’t require that much mechanical skill. But I think honestly that mechanical skill isn’t that important, you seem to think which I disagree with that aim is the most important and should be so. You don’t get good by improving your aim most of the time and thats definitely how I climbed and I don’t think that doing that is nooby. Creating characters that require more gamesense isn’t a bad idea. This does not mean I think characters should not be indroduced with aim for example ahe is a good new character. But anyway I’d like to see your response to this thanks
