Reaper is completely broken

As everyone knows, Reaper has benefited from several important buffs in the past few months as an attempt to kill the GOATs meta. Not only has this completely failed to deter high-level players from playing the boring 3-3, it has also completely ruined the game experience of low-level players like me.

Seriously, have you ever played against a Reaper in Bronze? He’s borderline impossible to kill. No player is skilled enough to reliably snipe him - and even less so now with the absolutely disgusting Shadow Step buff - and no team is coordinated enough to burst him down. So basically you have a Reaper in every game who carries like crazy not because he’s good, but because he’s playing a hero designed to be played against top 500 teams. And like I said, even that is not working. His pick rate in OWL is just as close to zero as it ever was, meanwhile he shreds effortlessly in the low elo.

Besides, if Blizzard is trying to make the League more fun to watch, why choose Reaper? He’s not a high-skill hero, no one wants to watch Reaper gameplay. Why not bring back heroes that actually made the first season super fun? Who doesn’t want to watch insane Widow plays? Seriously Blizzard, get your sh*t together. Playing against Reaper in the low ranks honestly feels like playing against a cheater. He. Just. Never. Dies.

Talking about low skill reminds me of cunt called zhin in paladins

Couldn’t have said it better. Lately, It’s not uncommon for the red team to start pocketing a reaper, having Junkrat spam choke points, and running a Bastion+ Torb bunker comp to win.

It really takes away the fun of playing OW when low skill heroes are more rewarding to play than say a Widowmaker, Tracer, etc.

Reaper needs some changes.

As a healer, I can say Reaper isn’t really that hard to kill.
You just have to know how to counter him. In lower ranks, I can imagine that it’s a lot harder to coordinate decent team comps, but at the end of the day, it’s about how well you play at the hero you’ve chosen. Once you know how to counter every hero, their abilities are far less scary.

counterpicking is important to learn, so you better start in bronze.

As someone who has played a fair bit of reaper I can tell you that he gets countered real easy, just don’t let him get in your face. I mean Pharah counters him, essentially all hit scans are strong against him at range. junkrat is strong against him, Its just keeping a eye on the flanking routes and shooting him at range and you have countered reaper. But he is far from broken. And yes he shreds tanks up close but that is his role, hes a tank killer

I’m a low ranked player as well, and i too think reaper is annoying af.

But do you think anyine will listen to us low ranks? Nope i don’t think so. Because we don’t matter to jeff and the others.

I’m not stupid, I know there are easy counter picks like Pharah and McCree. But what am I supposed to do when I’m already solo tanking/healing and none of the 3/4 dps on my team are willing to switch to a better pick? Pick one more dps and get rekt anyway?

I don’t think that anyone thinks that you’d be stupid. I’m low gold on my main acc here so not very high either.
Back to the point…
If you play support you might try

  • Zen
To help your team doing damage and put that discord orb on Reaper to make kills easier.
    His Ult also negates Reapers’.
  • Ana
She’s a tough healer due to the precise aiming needed. But you can sleepdart a Reaper (awesome when he’s ulting). He’s mostly within your team while doing so, so your team will focus him.
You can also antinade him esp. when he’s after your tanks. Focus and he should be dead or retreat.
If your team doesn’t need healing and you have LOS to him without being in danger from an enemy sniper or flanker, than you can snipe on him as well. Maybe he’ll retreat at least you bought time (same with enemy Pharah)

Throw your immortality field whenever he uses his ult but make sure to hide the drone so it can’t easily be shot down.

I know this is also obvious but those are the best options as a healer I can think of.

As a tank …
If can get help from one other mate then I’d say Roadhog (and in some cases even Zarya if you can track him properly). That way you can also peel for your supports.
If (and that’s a big if) your team is decent. Standing and working together you can also take Hammond. Bounce him away when he’s after your other Main Tank or your Supports. Boop him off the map if possible or piledrive onto him (don’t forget to shoot).
But very important esp. as Roadhog and Hammond. Don’t feed. Let your healers heal you. Wait for your team to engage. Use the shield as Hammond not too late as your enemies don’t get ultcharge through it. (But wait to get the max effect in that situation)

Sorry for the long post. On my 2nd account I play mostly Hammond and Zarya and just got to plat.

Again I don’t think your stupid, dumb or anything. OW is my 1st FP Shooter so I was very long very stupid because I didn’t ask for help or advices.
I deeply hope that you can make it.
Please tell me if any of these tips helped.

Edit: I know your pain btw. Had some silver games and the enemy Reaper was destroying us in Kings Row. I played Ana and the antinade and sleepdart really helped. And the team didn’t tilt completely after we finally killed him. We lost anyway due to no shieldbreakers on our team but yeah.

what you describe is neither reapers nor his balance problem, its called a dumb team, which totally deserves to lose. Suck it up, move onto your next match.

His ult shouldn’t have the benefit of self heal reduced significantly. He should get a nerf to self heal, and there should be a drop off in healing based on how far away he is. He shouldn’t be able to heal himself shooting a big target like Road from 30 feet away. It should be something that activates when he’s close to the enemy like 10-15 feet.

Yeah, he’s broken, and I’m saying that as someone who loves playing him.

you know that his selfheal is proportional to the damage he inflicts, right?
Which isn’t much when he’s shooting a hog from 30ft away.

it is not only bronze, reaper is easy pick until low plat.
even if there are counters, if you play reaper you easily manage your way.
i play lot reaper before, and now you can just tank with him easily. there are maybe 10% of games until low plat that this wont work or maybe when maps are too open space, the rest is easy, you dont even have to think about your positioning or health.

Your points are contradictory. If no one in lower ranks is good enough to snipe him and people in high ranks are, then he is not designed to play against Top 500 teams like you state.

The thing about skill ranks in this game is that player choice becomes increasingly less important unless you’re in a team and communication is sufficient. Otherwise high rank solo or double or triple queueing hero choice is less important. As long as you fill a role it doesn’t matter who your choice in that role is aside from to counter.

Reaper isn’t even as good overall as he once was. I remember back in the day he could kill a tank in seconds. Especially Winston. But then people gradually got smarter. Balance changes happened. Kill ability is overall lessened on all heroes in comparison to day 1 IMHO.

Just learn to counter him.

nope he must be switch back to absorb souls of DEAD ennemies and not regen as firing … it s just give him a noskill near invulnerability …
It s ok he can regen but over a dead body not while firing

this…

its not even that hard,

option 1, Mei, get ontop of him and W+MB1 until he is an edgy ice cube then ventilate his head with MB2

option 2, mcream roll up to him flash his knakersack then fan the hammer = dead vapey edgelord

and im gold/plat rank, its not hard to dunk on a reaper… especially low rank reapers who think they’re unstoppable

nope, he doesn’t.
