85 +85 = 170
Heroes with 170 health:
Baby D.Va 150
Tracer 150
(who already died in 2 hits before rein buff)
With damage boosts (per swing)
nano / suipercharger: +50% = 127.5
cadeuces / discord: +30% = 110.5
So with the exception of the new hero health changes (Mccree Symm) this makes no difference (if my math is right) for the second time
Reinhardt has been given a ādamageā buff which has made no difference when fighting anyone except constant healing roadhog.
Pharah is now a hitscan hero while reinhardt hasnāt had a buff in 2 years.
You could give him 150 dmg per hit and it still wouldnāt make it good.
Sadly for him, it is others around him that make him ābadā.
Sigma does everything (we will see what the nerf does)
Lucio being terrible doesnāt help.
What is a Rein going to do to Sigma, Ball, Echo, Brig, Zen⦠He canāt even get close to them. If he canāt get close to them, what is he doingā¦
But this is very āmetaā relevant. ANd if most ranks, people still blindly pick Rein Zarya
They just need to give him anything to make him interesting. Holding left or right click is boring af.
The metas where Rein has been most fun/effective he has always had Lucio to speed him in and out of engagements.
The issues are not Rein.
The issues are how good Bap and Brig are. They can both heal while offering their utility, where as Lucio has to choose speed or heal.
Standard with the new heroes. They make the OGs redundant because they can do bits of everything, and do it better than the originals.
Nerf Baps immorality, buff Lucio a little. And revert the changes made to Reins shatter. And immediately Rein seems more effective.
Sorry, I didnāt make my point clear, because I was in a queue.
Not really bothered what the meta is, or what damage or damage reduction Rein has.
My point is, if theyāre going to start tweaking him, they should also take that time to make him more interesting. They managed it with Orisa, but Rein is still one of the most boring characters in the game, who can also be strong. And his problem is more fundamental. You hold left click or right click, and neither take much thought.
When a boring character is strong, it means people sometimes have to play him or lose and it pushes people away from playing tank. It definitely does for me. This recent change to Sigma (one of the most interesting tanks) will do that further.
I have fun on any of the DPS, because of their mechanics. Compare literally any DPS to Rein in terms of depth of mechanics and fun.
The same can be said for Brig.

I think you are in a very small group that thinks Rein is boring.
Swing or Shield⦠it takes a lot more thought than that. You need to have good shield management, and know when to just take damage. You also need to know when you press and take space.
A good Rein will control the pace of the game. And will need to be able to read the game. Itās not all about aim, or cool roll outs. Sometimes it is just about out thinking your enemy⦠Which is why the Rein v Rein tank duel is probably one of the most fun and engaging duels in the game.
This applies to any tank though. Itās just more noticeable on Rein, because youāre a melee character.
Iāll agree with that, but other than those duels, it gets pretty boring for me.
The presence and pressure he can make just doesnāt make up for the mechanics for me.
This is what makes Overwatch so good, there is something for everyone.
Personally I find playing Mercy the most boring thing I could possibly do. And if I am asked to pick (or swap to her) I politely remind my team that I enjoy playing Overwatch, so wonāt be picking her.
He has a surprisingly high skill cap. The difference between even and OK Rein and a good Rein is massive.
You are right though, it should apply to most tanks. Although with Orissa the pace she sets it usually stationary and dozing off lol.
reinhardt is basically gonna struggle due to the amount of damage/cc/mobility that exists in the game, and sigma is still gonna be strong in double barrier with orisa because cycling barriers is still a thing and you donāt need 1 second re-deploy for that.
however sigma is gonna be harder to utilize outside of double barrier, but i donāt think it killed sigma, just made him a more skillful character that needs more consideration in when and how he uses his barrier.
balls changes, it might have an effect in higher ranks, but in lower ranks if you know how to play him itās really not much of a difference.
Yeah I agree. I think the highest levels might go from Sigma Ball back to Orissa Sigma.
Ball will be the strongest single tank, by a long way. But the combo of Sig Orissa, with Brig and Bap will just be too much to deal with.
peel is just too good really if teams chooses peel characters for ball to contend with.
but, i think thereās still ways to make ball work but itās way too risky to bet on.
The problem is, you can swap heroes to deal with Ball⦠Then use your cool downs/resources to slow him down. Sounds great.
But what about the other 5 in the enemy.
There is a tiny part of me that can see people trying to go with Ball, D.Va, Echo, Tracer. Especially on maps like Numbani and Gibraltar.
exactly, ball eats resources from the enemy team too effectively if the enemy team lets him.
combined with other characters that require resources to kill,
ball basically gives his team the key to the kingdom for free.
however a more disciplined team will not waste resources to deal with a ball, just enough to dispatch him and thatās why itās a risky proposition when you might aswell just play double barrier.
In theory yes. But Ball does too much and that is why he is in the meta right now with Sigma.
Obviously when the experiment changes go live, we shall see what happens. I suspect itāll be Orissa Sigma, or Ball Sigma still.
i think itās gonna be possibly d.va reinhardt on close range maps and double barrier on longer range maps like havanna.
however in casual play maybe rein/zarya or hog/ball.
it depends on the support and dps that gets played.
I just canāt see anything past Ball+ atm. with double shield if they decide to play snipers on the right maps.
Ranked/casual will always be mostly Rein/Zarya because not that many people pay attention to the patch notes and work out what would be best lol. Seem to have forgotten that is a big skill in getting good. Adjusting who you play.
i think ball is mostly played because of hitscans that rely on headshotting for good damage.
that and casuals usually donāt swap to counter or peel against a ball that well.
as for balls success in pro-play i really donāt know, you might see him with a good synergy composition that makes all his abilities stronger and negates some of his drawbacks or you wonāt see him at all i think.
it really doesnāt matter who you play for the majority of games iād say because thereās usually a way to play around everything, as we can clearly see pro players and metas tend to favor compositions that are able to handle everything with a good chance of success.
but those kinds of comps arenāt hard to make, itās just that some havenāt been experimented too much with yet, but they do exists.
imo todays metas are halfbaked comps that are jack of all trades and rarely go full counter to a specific playstyle or composition even though i think full counter comps are way stronger due to the popularity of halfbaked do it all comps.
I will say this, as a friend of an analyst for a Contenders team⦠If there was a stronger comp, theyād be playing it. They have zero interest in what is āfunā or anything like that. They just want the best comp to win every single fight.
It is never about picking ācountersā it is about picking the strongest comp to ensure you are winning neutral fights. Or in the case of double shield, harder to lose them. But they found the displacement Ball caused against double shield meant you had to mirror it to stand a chance.
If someone clocks on to a new comp that is stronger, it will take just days before all the pro teams are trying to implement it.
But like you say, in ranked the āmetaā is mostly irrelevant. People are better off just playing who they think they are best on.
thatās the issue here, they are looking for the golden goose that beats everything, but thatās not a thing.
if youāve seen enough team games even outside of overwatch youāll know that there is no such thing as a perfect composition or a perfect play that beats EVERYTHING.
so i think pro play is misguided in how they choose to play, i think the only thing they are doing correctly currently is to atleast swap compositions that works better on some maps instead of running 1 comp everywhere.
counterstrats to me havenāt been developed fully yet and this game is just too much still in its infancy for anyone to point to what is what, for example dive or bunker can be completely irrelevant as concepts within a span of 10 years time.
meaning that the game might look and play wholly different in maybe a year from now without a single patch being released due to people figuring out things.
and iāve seen these developments from other games happen and donāt get me wrong some of it have happened in overwatch but thereās still much in store for what might happen if just given more time.
You can think that. But when have 6, 7, 8 player, coaches analysts reviewing hours of vods, theory crafting and and analysing the data. You can be fairly sure they have landed on the right thing.
And remember, if there was a better comp, theyād be playing it. It would only take one team to do it and walk over a team for the meta to change almost over night. Just like what happened when GOATs ran their 3-3 comp⦠then within days european teams were running it all the time.
