I’ve been having this issue since I got Overwatch. Tried every single advice I could find, nothing helps.
So I decided it was probably time for a new pc. So I went “all-in”. But, the damn error continues to haunt me.
New computer:
Intel Core i9 9900k CPU
MSI 2080 Ti graphics card
32Gb DDR4 4000MHz RAM
1000W PSU
Samsung 49" C49HG90 144Hz QLED
ASUS ROG MAXIMUS X CODE
WD Black 3D 1Tb M.2
Old computer:
Intel Xeon
MSI 980 TI
64Gb DDR4 2666Mhz
1200W PSU
2x32" BENQ
Samsung 860 PRO 2048GB
They don’t share any hardware, so don’t see that a hw problem could be causing it.
Temperatures on the new gfx card hangs around 70C while gaming.
Running the game in 1920x1080 (144hz, windowed), since the game doesn’t support ultra widescreen resolution. 103 FoV. Gfx quality at Ultra. FPS is display-based.
Not a single crash for the first two weeks, then it started acting up. Was a few Nvidia driver updates that might be causing it?
Update: The cards are NOT overclocked , any of them.
Hey ZilverZtream,
Most often this issue is caused by a driver problem. I’d suggest using a Display Driver Uninstaller to remove your current graphics drivers completely, and installing the latest drivers once more afterwards.
Have a few seconds to spare? Let me know how I’m doing!
Hello,
I just got this error too and the game crashed. I have a Haswel Intel CPU (i7-4771) and a GTX 1060 6GB GPU. No overclock.
@Overwatch test team - please perform more Compatibility tests for OW - it seems that it has some specific issues with Nvidia graphic cards mostly, as I observed from many other comments ( this is not the single issue I had with OW and the comments were all about Nvidia GPUs) so you might need to focus more on this part of the tests.
@Overwatch programming team - please optimize the game more
Thanks for the reply.
I should have stated that I tried that well over 100 times so far over the course of a year. It never does any difference. I’ve gone so far that I tried multiple older Nvidia drivers to find one that doesn’t crash the game.
BUT, I haven’t crashed since I posted this, so I might have found a solution:
I noticed that the Blizzard Launcher ALWAYS froze when the error occurred, so I targeted that as maybe being the cause.
Looking through the settings I found “Use browser hardware acceleration when available.” under Advanced Settings. I unchecked that and the game has been running smoothly, not a single crash and no underclock using MSI Afterburner.
EDIT:
I take that back. I just crashed after probably 30 games or so. Short lived happiness. Unchecked HW acceleration didn’t do the trick sadly enough.
Pissing me off that I keep getting punished for this frecking bug.
