Rendering device lost

I have been getting the same error saying the rendering device lost. I have looked it up and saw the forum from blizzard and did all the things that were written but I still have the issue, no overheating, default settings of the overclock, no apps running in the background, latest drivers and version of windows, nothing works.

I believe there are 3 reasons for this glitch

  1. overwatch thinks your graphics card is overheating. If it crashes at a specific temp while in game, this is probably why. For me this is at 70 degrees c

  2. your gpu temperature rises too quickly. If mine jumps from 40 to 50 in less than 10 seconds, the game crashes no matter what.

  3. magic. Ive done the same stuff as you and nothing fixed it. sorry if this post insnt very helpful.

There is unfortunately a little bit of misinformation going on here, which does warrant clarification.

More specifically: a “lost rendering device” isn’t actually a problem of Overwatch (or any game, really) - this is a warning issued by the operating system itself, regarding the video card no longer responding to input. This error is sometimes also called a “TDR” (“Timeout Detection and Recovery”), and per default Windows tries to resolve this by restarting the video driver. If that is successful the operating system will remain functional, but any application that was at that time making use of the video driver will almost certainly crash (Overwatch absolutely will).

Here’s the bad part: TDRs can only occur for basically two reasons - either the video card itself, or the software environment it relies on (drivers and operating system), has trouble. Issues like overheating or voltage insufficiencies/spikes are indeed pretty common “culprits” in these cases, which is likely where the observation KweftyReaper made comes from - but none of those are application-based, meaning no game can actually cause/influence these conditions.

I’d recommend giving HWMonitor a try here, to see where values for temperature/clockspeed/voltage draws are when the crash occurs. With any luck that’ll reveal more - else my honest suggestion would be to let a local technician take a closer look at the computer.

it could be, thank you
