So I’ve recently reported multiple people for just constant barrage of abuse, some even sending death and rape threats right off the bat before the match even starts, and I’m yet to see any of them banned, yet I get random few day bans here and there over times where I’ve got sick of just blocking and reporting to no avail and actually stood up for myself, apparently I shouldn’t rise to it when the 5th dps tells me I’m a garbage healer because I’m some how not keeping everyone alive all on my own, I should just allow people to talk to me like I’m trash because that’s apparently the right thing to do? If you want people to be less toxic then do something about the toxic ones!
I can kind of get not immediately looking at reports for toxicity but you really can’t filter out the death/rape threats? Why is that considered ok? It shouldn’t be that hard to realise that’s overstepping the mark and deserves a ban.
I’m just sick of this constant abuse now, usually I can just ignore it when it’s one lousy dps screaming that they’re not getting healed when they’re at the enemy spawn but having to deal with such vitriol just makes it not at all worth it. Maybe i’ll come back for OW2 when I don’t need to put up with it

I don’t have much faith in Blizzard’s reporting system, it’s just a tick based system that goes off a particular number of reports received.
My advice is, to instead block the nasty apples you come across, not avoid, block. This is the easiest way to weed out the scummy players and keep them out of your player pool. Believe it or not, despite what you might think, they are in fact a minority. Most OW players are fine gamers who are just here for the same reasons as you and me, to have some fun and chill.
I hope you have better games ahead.

Sadly it takes blizzard time. You just have to have a little blind faith in the system.
Luckily(sort of) people are inherently stupid. If he does that in one game, and appears to no get punished, he will keep going and build up more and more reports and eventually get taken down.
A friend of mind was so toxic in game I had to remove him and refuse to play with him. He got cocky about it, thinking he’d be untouchable.
Both of his accounts have now been closed by Blizzard because of his behaviour. So it takes time, but they get what they deserve in the end

If they have done it once and think they have got away with it, they’ll do it again, so a ban is probably on its way.
Unfortunately the system seems to rely on the number of times a person has been reported to flag it up, and I can see why they would implement that (although that in itself is an issue I won’t get into here) in that way, because there’s always the odd salty 5 stack who report the solo player for not picking a hero they want etc.
Blizzard must get thousands of reports a day, so it’s going to take them time to weed out the worst offenders.
I understand the frustration. I main support and will get the usual barrage of “You’re trash!” insults quite often because a DPS over-extended and broke line of sight, but thankfully the death and rape threats have only been one in a few every couple of months.
What I will say is, you can’t argue with stupid, so rise above it. It’s not ok, you absolutely have every right to defend yourself, but all they want is an argument. Deny them the thing they want by blocking them as well as reporting. People who literally make these kinds of threats over a game are not worth the effort it takes to respond to them.

If you are getting suspended it means theres way more to the story that you are not telling pal.
You are “defending” yourself way too much or way too hard, thats a given. Also people that say 1 thing once is probably getting away with it, you need a lot of reports to prove a consistent bad behaviour and … it seems they got you

Last week I got the big notification with ”actions has been taken against a player…wall of text thanking me for making the community a better place”
3 days in a row it happened. Had some nasty players, some cheaters, some spammers and finally some afk’s so don’t know which one it was.
Always screenshot chat to have my back clear. Never join voice cause I can’t record what they say and just mainly cause I don’t like being called all kinds of bad words describing women by dudes who are half my age.
So just stay out of voice chat and you’ll be fine.
Mute the guy who says you don’t heal enough, there’s no need to stand up for yourself in that situation tbh, you won’t achieve anything because even if you don’t heal enough they won’t be able to convince you, nor will you be able to convince him if the opposite is true. But you should absolutely stand up for yourself when you are getting harassed by someone ( the rape and death threats, those are really not okay and I’d use way stronger words if the rules of the forums allowed that), be sure to ask people on your team to report the guy who does it too, no one needs those kind of people in the game. That stuff is seriously messed up, so much so that mentioning them on the same page with some rando crying for heals feels a bit weird, one of these is a serious problem, the other is just a minor inconvenience.
