Reports are largely ignored

I have filed hundreds (if not thousands) of genuine reports. Even after having no response from Blizzard for weeks re action being taken I still reported. To my surprise, a few days ago, Blizzard finally let me know that they had taken action against players I had reported. How many, do you think? 200? Nope. 100? Nada. 10? No.

Two. Just two.

What about the rest of them?

There is a handful of players who are blatant and severe trolls/throwers. I report all instances of reportable behaviour by these players. But nothing ever gets done. They ruin a lot of my matches all day, every day.

Every

Single

Day

They never get banned. They are free to do as they please. Blizzard may claim to care, but the reality is that they don’t. They don’t at all.

Report system is 95% automated.
It can be easlsy abused if you paly with a party.
When 5 or more people reprot someone he will lose 1 endorsement level.
At 8 or more reports he will get punish’d.
I’m still testing this out so the numbers might not be right but they are really close to this once.
But when only 1 or 2 players report someone nothing will instantly happen unless more players reprot the same peson over time.
Reports do stack and stay on your account untill they reach a limit, at that limit actions are taken and they are fully automated with no way to reverse.

If you reported thousands its prolly not genuine reports. Usually when I report ppl I get something like 50-60% feed back that action has been taken. Then again I havent even reported 100 guys after the system that you get feedback.

Goodness, if you already filed hundreds if not thousands of genuine reports how many reports have you filed that weren’t genuine.

I wouldn’t agree with this.
To me it seems to be more efficient than before. I’ve reported 7-8 people within the last month and atleast 5-6 of those have resulted in “Actions against the players account”

Number of blatant trolls encountered daily = 10.
Number of avoid teammate slots = 2.
Average number of matches with each of these trolls per day = 20.
Time spent playing Overwatch = Over 1 year.
8 daily trolls in 20 games each = 160.

For these few trolls alone the daily report count is 160. This figure assumes that I only report them for one offence per match. This is often not the case, as they will use any means necessary to ruin the game.

160 average reports per day multiplied by approx 300 days play = 48000.

Forty

eight

thousand.

Even with a conservative estimate I have probably filed over 40,000 reports on these few individuals alone. It is perfectly reasonable for all of these reports to be 100% genuine.

All but two of these trolls have NEVER been banned, and more than likely never will be.

The reporting system is a total and utter failure. Blizzard (and Jeff Kaplan) lied to us. The report system is just an illusion to make you think that Blizzard are taking steps to remove these vile people, when the actual truth is they simply don’t care and do next to nothing.

Oddly enough there are enough people saying that the report system is too automated.

i get literally every day a message that someone who i reported got punished

what’re you talking about???

it is

and tech support wont even try to help , they just gonna send you a copy pasta message that they dont care

The report system is automated and has to be, given the amount of valid and invalid complaints being put through every hour of every day.

The cost to blizzard to have support agents responding to all of them would be crazy considering this game is not subscription based like wow etc. The revenue to just isn’t there for that.
And just think of the time they could take per interaction, you’ll have people just complaining to the agent for an hour and then looking for something free and etc etc etc.
Just to add, tech support are not there to help with in game complaints like that. You just use the system provided otherwise you are just wasting yours and their time.

The complaints are registered and then depending on the issue - investigated. It’s a lot quicker/easier to investigate things like abusive comments in chat because a chat log is easy to look up and search. So giving specific phrases said can help speed that up.
For things like throwing, that can take more time for various reasons.

As you can see above people do get responses from reports, I have for some and not for others.
No offence or anything but I am just going to assume you have not made as many reports as you claim to have made. You would literally never get to play the game if you put through that many.

Regarding if Blizzard care or not, well you can see from what is said in update/developer videos with Jeff etc that they do care. They’ve banned high level players, streamers for similar things on many occasions. They try things like the endorsement system/LFG etc but given that as of May 2018 there are in the region of 40 million people playing… trying to clamp down on people for ‘acting the maggot’ is not as easy as you may think.

I get really frustrated by people who join QP’s and just afk or stand around messing and not playing/helping. I call them dirty names (ie at the screen)… I know the only way around it is to play with some friends in a group or go to LFG and look for a voice chat group and hope it’s a reasonable group.

There is not much they can do about it though. Imagine just how many reports come through on a daily basis. It would require a ridiculous amount of resources to read each and every report that comes through, and then investigate. It is not realistic.

They can do what dota 2 did.
Everyone has 2 reports a week when you hit the highest rank it goes to 4 a week.
This makes is supper easy to review reports and even one report will matter alot more then it matters atm, but yeah its more cheaper and lazier to run with automated report systems but lets face it this is a game rated for 12 yo i don’t want that much trust to be in the hands of 12 yo’s. You will be surprise how easy it is to bann someone who didn’t even do anything wrong. And after you do so and he appeals the ban the gm will just tell him that the ban cant be lifted.
My 1st ban on my main account was a not fully my doing but i still had to sit 3 days without overwatch so i just both a 2n account, and i think its dumb that i can do that and still play when im ban’d for alleged gameplay sabotage. All the gm will say is that ohh look since the day you got overwatch up until now 10 people reported you 4 of them are right 5-6 of them are just one party of 5-6 players so the automated system ban’d you we are truly sorry for this but we cant lift the ban.
I just know one think i will never ever pick torb ever again, its blizzards misdoings that his this weak that people tilt the moment they see him in the team yet we are the once who get punish’d btw i’m not even a torb one trick…

Wickedlike, you have been around these forums long enough, what do you think the reaction would be from the community?

The reaction would be along these lines:

“OMG, only 2 votes? I just met players in my last three games that I didn’t like and I can’t report the third person?!! OMG Blizzard you suck!!!”

Wow. There is stupid and then there is this post…

OW has 30 million players. You expect Blizzard to have a workforce big enough capable of reading those reports?

Damn it sounds that you are getting triggered at the minimum chance you can get and spam the report like theres no tomorrow dude.
I also play everyday and in QP (no comp) so theres A LOT more of trolls and throwers there because “Chill its QP Bruh” and maybe i report 1-2 legit and still get the “thanks for the report” in a few days.

30 million players yet something like dota 2 with less than a million concurrent players gets more twitch views.

Come on now, the 30 million meme was fun at launch but you cant use it as a credible information now.

Yeah but the OP is wondering why they can’t investigate his 48k reports each year. Imagine if everyone were like him, even with only 500,000 daily players there would be more reports than any team could deal with.

Reporting is a numbers game. Do bad things enough times and you will be punished.

I think I’ve reported around 15-20 people total since OW launched.

Of those, I’d usually get a message saying action has been taken around half to 3/4 of the time.

So OP I don’t know you, but maybe you report people too frequently at the drop of the hat, if everyone reported in the same numbers as you then how on earth do you expect blizz do sort through the reports in a timely manner?
And thousands of reports? Sheesh either you really are unlucky in that you keep bumping into the worst people or you have a tendency to overreact.

I mean don’t get me wrong, i like a bit of shake fisting as much as the next one but this seems a bit silly, I really can’t think of a reasonable way Blizz can go through their reports faster then they already are without hiring lots of new people.

Its working nicely for dota 2. And when you report someone in dota 2 it really matters unlike in overwatch when you report someone you have to hope that atlest 7 or so people report him.
You said that people will cry that they have 2 reports but lets face it, how many people do reports punish anyways looks like 30-40% of reports work out unless you play with people at that case it can be up to 90% and easily abused.
And for overwatch it can be more reports per week.
The report number can be increased to blizzards standards if they can keep up with more reports.
And yeah no matter what changes happen people will be on the forums complaining that’s the effect of 30 mil different individuals and it’s not like they aren’t complaining about the system as it is at the moment.

Im fine if people only used report that way but no, worst use of reprots that i see alot is “ohh you killd me guess me and my team will reprot you now” afterwards you need to be reported once or twice and your done.
