There’s bound to already be a topic on this, but I looked and I couldn’t find it. So, if there is, I guess just move this, or point me in the right direction.
Have Blizzard confirmed either if they will or won’t be introducing a “role queue” into Comp? I remember there was talk about it and an April Fool’s YouTube video claiming it was already here, but I don’t recall any offiical response on the matter. I think it’s be a good edition, to rank the 4 classes in order of preference, and then be matched accordingly. They won’t need to set up a 2-2-2 of each role of whatever, or guarantee that there is no 4 DPS first picks, but even if 3 people were pref DPS but their second choices differ, a good team comp could still be achieved and it wouldn’t make matchmakng times suffer too much.
No this is not happening. It’s silly to think a role system will fix anything, because firstly people could pick any role just for faster queue times then change during the match, and secondly the game is built around switching and counters.
Which wouldn’t make a different because queue times wouldn’t be especially increased. This would also have the system expecting you to play a role you don’t plan to, and so would likely create an unbalanced team.
Yes, but how many times have you seen your Ana switch over to a Rein in a comp game? Normally counter-picks don’t involve a complete role change, and if they do, it’s still to a character that can at-least fulfill the same role.
People need to be smart about how this system would work. It doesn’t have to be “Ok, play this role until the game is over”. It should just make it so it’s not going to pair you with 6 people with the same preference of roles. Switching roles would still be allowed. This means you’re more likely to get your prefered role, or at the very least, you won’t get paired with a full team of dps, and queue times won’t be increased much.
Anyone that thinks that queue times will all of a sudden, randomly double, or something, has not engaged their brain even for a second, when addressing the issue.
And before you say that system wouldn’t work, it has before.
Not if you are locked in to that class for the entire game. For example, as a tank main, I would choose tank class, and MM would pair me up with 5 other players, 1 more tank, 2 dps and 2 healers.
it can work and it can work very well. However, I wouldn’t like it to be forced. Maybe as an option for those looking for 2,2,2, and those looking for an open/varied meta, can simply opt to not choose role queue.
I’d like to try out something like this on PTR in the future.
But it still wouldn’t work. There is nothing stopping someone from going tank, (who actually isn’t that good with them) just so they get a faster queue, not to mention of you force players to do things ot will only result in trolls and toxicity.
If players don’t switch during matches then there isn’t much that can be done, role selection does not suit this game when you are expected to switch regularly if it helps to win.
Not in this game it hasn’t, and even other games like WoW often suffer long queues waiting for roles to fill up a party.
It hasn’t been tried in this game, so that point is moot.
And I wasn’t talking about WoW. Didn’t even know WoW had that system.
I don’t think it should be like this. This model is what gives Kurando his argument. It should merely be a guideline, and you should rank all classes from most to least prefered. That way, it facilitates people that, say, main DPS but can flex onto someone like Dva or Zarya, if they put Tank as second pref.
And there should be a “fill” or “no-pref” option, but aside from that, it shouldn’t try to force 2-2-2, because that’s not always going to work.
We need a system which is a happy medium between what we have now, and long queue times. Unfortunately, people are closed minded, get one theory into their head which won’t work and refuse the accept the plausibility of adapted theories working.
I don’t understand what you mean. Why would someone choose to play tank and then immediately regret it or realize they are not good with tanks? That makes no sense. If I choose tank class for a 15 minute game then obviously I chose it because I WANT to play tank. You’re being a little too negative about the potential for role queue working.
As for switching in game, yes you will still be able to switch but ONLY limited to the class that you chose to role queue with, meaning if I chose tank, I can only change to another tank. That’s the purpose of a role queue system, so you can’t just change from dps to tank to support every few minutes, and the team has a set structure for the duration of the match.
