I know the title is somewhat misleading in a sense, I know we can report players and I do so constantly but I don’t feel like something is done with it?
I remember when Overwatch 1 was around and I reported a player I received a message that was akin to ‘Thank you for the report, the user has been banned’ or something like that. I cannot remember the exact wording. It was something like that though, a large window when I logged in after I reported a playing for gameplay sabotage.
I wish it was just gameplay sabotage these days. The amount of homophobic and racist slurs that have been hurled at me is beyond the pale. [I’m not English so I am hoping I’m using that right.] Players find a way around using the actual slur by changing a letter or spacing it somewhat. I won’t repost it here, but I think we can all use our imagination and take a guess.
Blizzard please DO something with these reports. I keep reporting players who do so and when I check, not out of obsession but vague curiosity, I can still see them play and be active. Why have the report system in place if slurs and general bigotry is allowed?
I am very excited for the pride event, being part of the LGBTQ+ community myself. I am super stoked that many Overwatch characters share my identity of that of people I hold very dear. But I find it hypocritical at best that battle tags with slurs in them and people using slurs against any minority is allowed in game.
And hey, maybe these reports do have an effect and the whole message that appears when you have reported a toxic player has been removed. Or maybe more than one person needs to report. I honesty don’t know. Overwatch is my very first online game and I have been playing since launch. But it’s becoming more and more unbearable to be hurled slurs at and those people getting away with it.
I guess I just wanted to get this off my chest, is anyone else experiencing this?

At some point there was a bug that kept the “thank you for reporting” message from appearing when action was taken against a person.
A single report against a person doesn’t cause action, but even that single report is a strike against the offending person.
I always report people for racial slurs, abelist comments, homophobia and just plain toxicity.
Maybe my report isn’t the final straw, but it’s the only thing we can do.
The report system is only effective if the community as a whole isn’t willing to let this stuff slide.
When i see that stuff in the chat during matches, i type a message of “abusive chat” in the chat box. Just incase there is someone around who didn’t realize that was the case. Sometimes it gets a nice wave of toxicity from the offender which makes it more likely for there to be action taken as i report them.
You’re on the internet.
You shouldn’t be shocked by peoples lack of intelligence and the ego they’ve got from anonymity.

its best to ignore the whole playerbase.
the more you reply back to them to more they use it against you.
aspecially in competitive. aspecially your team members.
the best thing you can do is to believe what you think is the right thing and go with the flow.

‘‘Thank you for the report, action will be taken against this player’’ - Never said banned, they might said instead of action Punishment.
Blizzard doing everything to keep toxicity outside of the game.
Me not, playing since 2017, especially not now in Overwatch 2.
Sticks and stones can break my bones but words shall never hurt me.
Words can actually have a much worse and longer affecting consequenses than sticks and stones.
Half of my life has been ruined because of words alone, and it will be still some years before i can pretend they had no affect on me.
Words are powerful, which is why people should treat each other with basic decency.

im a mercy/dva main and one time i was playing as a mercy and i kept getting tbagged so i couldnt get to my team to heal/res or do damage boost and in the end i got told to km$ and instead of putting “k/ll” they put a “k” and i tried to report them but nothing happened so i think they do need to work on actually doing something about reports.

I usually add a comment in the report field when such abbreviations are used (or a word in different language to circumvent the ai filters).
The comment doesn’t need to be more than “said (this thing) which means (this thing)”
I find that it has helped my reports be acted on in the past.
It’s also good to learn a hero that can avoid being spawn camped with either movement or good damage. Even if you’re not super good at them, moira is a good one with the fade ability, you’ll be able to avoid any flanker and get back to your team.
A better choise in the long run is to learn a support that can quickly kill an enemy, kiriko and zen are good options. Kiriko is better at regular healing than zenyatta, so as a mercy main I can recommend her if you have her unlocked (which is free).
When running from spawn to your team, just default to the gun with mercy.
Unless the camper is a smurf, or playing one of the deadlier duelling characters (like soldier, reaper, cassidy, sym etc) just beginning to shoot at them is a good deterrent and might spook them enough to make them retreat.
Try to aim for the head, usually 6 or 7 good hits from mercy can get rid of most dps.
If you’re being camped by a tank and you’re playing a role locked mode, just keep them busy and the rest of your team will be fine.
Shockingly, I see quite a lot of the “kys” being said in games.
