Generally single play in overwatch is done through co-op missions done throughout the story or in junkenstiens revenge. however i would really enjoy a literal single player mode of overwatch, going through the story but really more focusing on all the individual characters and their unique move set. Well some characters don’t have many movement based abilities (like Zenyata) i would really enjoy a map dedicated to genji and hanzos climb and dash, or and obstacle coarse for hammond and winston on the moon base(looking outside you can see a lot more areas where this might be). I get on Overwatch, get in a game, and i get destroyed. I might try a few more times, but its always just more annoying. Overwatch isn’t perfect, i won’t ask it to be, But it could be better(for some of us that do suck) if we didn’t always have to fight people that are better than us, that have a better ping, that know the game so thoroughly that its barely a game any more. Like i said earlier the mission events are fine, but i want something more permanent, and more specified to the diverse.
Blizzard already said that Overwatch is essentially a PvP game. On the other hand, PvE games have single and coop versions. The Retribution and Uprising events are basically coop PvE.
My favourite part of the whole game was the Retribution event. I re-played it hundreds of times even after completing it on Legendary difficulty because I enjoyed how well thought out and challenging it was and I really liked helping other players to get the Legendary achievement. Unfortunately Overwatch is focused on PvP so they make Retribution, Uprising, etc available only in events in order to prevent people from focusing on these and asking for more and more. I understand why they are doing this, it’d require extra efforts from the dev team.
However, I’d be willing to pay for the coop PvE (and some single player) mission packs. They could release Overwatch PvE as a separate game with purchasable single player and coop mission packs and could afford a separate team to build it. The good thing about this is that they would have to build it only once, no continuous tweaking/balancing needed like in case of the PvP. They should work on it only in case of critical bugs or if they wanted to add a new mission pack. Could be good business to sell it easily to some members of the already existing Overwatch community. Keeping it as a separate game (forked version of Overwatch) could perhaps make it easier for them to avoid introducing bugs into the PvE game while constantly tweaking/changing the original PvP Overwatch.
In my opinion Overwatch still needs an offline version that you can play custom games with no latency or play the practise range with no required connection
