Solution to Issues With Role Queue

So the main issues with role queue is primarily the queue times, but also a massive problem I’ve noticed is people flex queuing throw games and don’t even try just so they can get priority passes for DPS. But I think there is a simple solution to both issues that I would love to see in OW2.

A primary and secondary role selection, this would reduce queue times massively (depending on the healer/tank off role ratio). So DPS mains could select DPS as their main role and then choose whether they would rather off role healer or tank. If you couple this with getting rid of role specific rankings then the issue of “off role/flexing throwers” wouldn’t be much of an issue at all anymore since they would lose SR as a whole not just their support or tank SR

So with a primary-secondary role selection the game would always try to put you as your main role, but the more times you get your selected off role the higher priority you will have to get your main role next time. Of course for those that just want to play one hero or whatever open queue would still be there for them. And a flex option could of course still be there too.

Since players will feel like they had a choice when they get their off role, rather than flexing for priority passes, they would be more inclined to actually try especially if role specific ranks/SR is taken away

Specifically for ranked I honestly think something like this is a must have for OW2 the flex queue priority pass system is very problematic in terms of having people throw and not care just to get priority passes to play DPS. I also think having completely separate Rankings for each role encourages this behaviour and should be taken away in favour of a single ranking like with open queue.

Also I think a system like this would encourage more players to learn other roles which would help them become better players as a whole.

I hope blizzard can at least trial something like this in the next OW2 beta and see how the community feels. I feel like most people enjoy the structure of role queue just not the queue times, this would help solve that (although maybe not completely, but it would be interesting to see how well it works as a trail in the next beta) I don’t want to see role queue taken away because of obnoxious queue times, since I know they did that survey or whatever not long ago.

So, let me know your thoughts or ideas on this topic. I think it would help both queue times and off role throwers.

The solution is even easier. More people playing the game.

Hopefully going F2P will do that.

I don’t think that would completely solve the problem though, especially not the off role throwers.

I think it’s more to do with the ratio of DPS players compared to healers and tanks

No one is “throwing” on of roles for tickets though. They might not be as good on that role, but playing badly isn’t throwing.

More players is something this game badly needs. No matter what role they play.

I get it all the time, they say stuff like “enjoy the l” in chat along with “idc I’m diamond dps” lol. It happens all the time and they never get banned.

The game is no where near dead I play SMITE and based off of general viewership that game is way more “dead” than overwatch and the queue times are fine. It’s queue system that’s the problem not the player count.

I wouldn’t take what people say in chat seriously. They probably just playing badly and are just saying things to wind people up.

No OW isn’t anywhere near dead. It is still in a relatively healthy place. But it desperately needs the player count to increase, as the downward trend isn’t good.

I agree, I’m sure OW2 is going to explode though. Either that or completely flop

tbf to the system, it doesn’t motivate people to throw for priority passes because you get way more for a win than for a loss

Yeah. Could go either way.

My prediction. Explodes short term, fades a little after 12/18 months. Gets another massive boost when PvE arrives.

I am curious how you came to this conclusion? You can’t see what people queue as.

A lot of the time they straight up put it on the chat lol

Which just isn’t evidence.

I can tell everyone in chat that I’m throwing, doesn’t mean anything.

I pretty much never see this personally. Not got the impression people do much of it either. Most people seem to try to win, though there are various skill levels, and sometimes matchmaking is completely off.

the tickets don’t account for much and having a secondary and primary role don’t make a difference because they will still not really care about those games.
at that point it’s probably more frustrating for them as they randomly get tossed into games they might not want to play.
