One of the voicelines in the game is very ableist and offensive. when Sombra kills Tracer she says ‘you spaz’ in Spanish. ‘spaz’ is a derogatory term in the UK and it is very inappropriate that she says this to a British character. Considering Overwatch is a game with a lot of inclusivity this is quite odd
She has one saying “you little punk” but that it. Which line do you mean?
It’s about the word “Taradita”, which is apparently translated to spaz. The thing is in the US and many european countries spaz means nothing more than someone who is acting a bit crazy, like being overly active, jumping around like a mad men or just being all over the place. And that’s what she means, since Tracer is a very jumpy, overactive and blinking all over the place character.
That something could be offensive in another language is something that is almost impossible to prevent. Tracer herself can call other people ‘wanker’, which in the UK is a random insult, but translated to certain languages it can be extremely insulting. Some things are just better left in their own language.
Also, remember that Sombra is the bad girl here, so being mean is part of her character.
And I do think the word inclusivity is used a bit too much lately. For me inclusivity means everyone and everything and not just the people and things I like. It should not be used as a tool to get something you may dislike personally to get removed or cancelled.
Yeah that’s the “little punk” one
So I’m sure it’s a mistranslation by someone.
I really love Sombra’s attitude and lines. They did a great job in expressing that so no complaints from me. Besides, Tracer occasionally says the word “wanker” when she kills somebody which isn’t that nice either (very cool imo). There are way more offensive lines.
