I’ll (try to) keep this brief:
Overwatch competitive has stagnated for the majority of players over the past 10+ seasons.
Placements are not real placements, just a way to ensure that you are investing game time to earn rank rewards each season.
Players are effectively locked at their current ranks as the game’s matchmaking does it’s best to keep you 50-50 win-loss.
The introduction of 2-2-2 and the associated rank reset was a real breath of fresh air for most players. Giving everyone a fair chance to earn or re-earn a suitable SR.
However with each new passing season, that breath of fresh air fades.
I genuinely believe that the player base would on average like to see more of these SR resets in future. Perhaps every 3 seasons or so.
I appreciate that there would be issues around gold players hitting brick wall master ranks in placements, which could skew ranks. As well as other potential problems.
However I believe that workarounds such as tweaking the number of placements (slight increases to improve rank reliability) would soften the negatives involved.
I for one would prefer to suffer through 1 master opponent game in placements and get to fight for a new fair rank each time. Rather than be locked in to my current ranks for the next 10 seasons.
Thoughts?
