STILL being put in wrong region / server

I made a post 3 days ago asking for help but it went unnoticed. I keep being put in random servers instead of the Australian servers.

Any help would be appreciated.

Games like WoW or Final Fantasy have fixed servers; you are always logging in to a specific server in a datacenter/city. That is not how Overwatch matchmaking works.

The server matching for Overwatch is dynamic. In this case, your region is North America. I am also in the NA region, located in the Southeast U.S. I am often matched to the LA (farther) server instead of Chicago (closer) server due to the times of day I play, as well as modes.

Again, this is perfectly normal/expected and isn’t going to change even if your ISP comes out and looks at your connection. Noise on your connection will affect connection quality, but not which server you land on.

You should only be concerned if you are located in Arizona and being matched onto servers in Europe or Asia. In that case, you’d be looking at an ISP routing issue.

Why can’t I swap regions anymore?

The simple answer is, you are placed into the best match based on a variety of factors including player skill and ping. Getting more technical, it’s because the regions themselves no longer exist (at least not in the way players traditionally understand them), so there is no region to swap to.

But my friends all play in a different region than I do!

You’ll still be able to play with your friends in other regions. In the case that you’re in a party, our systems work to place you in games with the lowest ping and best skill level for you or your party. These changes are aimed at ensuring that queue times are minimized and that the average ping is relatively low.

It’s not the best match if my ping is like 180+.

I usually am in the SYD1 servers, but now it’s alternating which one it wants me to be in.

Also, since I am from Australia, why is it putting me in a server in another country??
