STOP renaming McCree!

While a few people might compare the name with a real person, millions of players compare this name to a cowboy that is nothing like the real person its name was previously inspired from.
By changing the name you make McCree the cowboy, McCree the sexual predator. No matter the name, from now on he will allways be that character that was inspired by a sexual predator.

(btw stop saying the Cosby Suit was named after the convicted sexual criminal! The suit was named that at least 3 years BEFORE any alligations about that persons crimes went public! The name was choosen because of the ugly carpet that looked like Bill Cosby’s sweater from the series.
Suggesting that every member of the “Cosby Suit Chat” were so openly gloating with raping women or supporting such behavoir is just plain false and stupid)

back to the topic:
The digital character became something unique and got his own personality and character. There was nothing connecting the two figures, just the name…
But there are lots of people sharing names.
Do you rename your child as soon as someone with the same name does something bad?
Or do you teach that child to be better?

But I think Blizzard knows all this.
To be honest, at this point I think this is just a marketing stunt. A big content update was coming in September with McCree having a big part? But: “Oh No! We need to rename McCree and delay our update.”
There werent any content updates since 2-3 years, but now there was suddenly a big update?
This seriously sounds like an excuse to have a reason why the game wont get any updates and trying to have a positive spin on it while they are telling bs anyways. There are plenty reports saying that they totally miscalculated the work on OW2 and reworks on the heroes.
With this they can have a big “delay” in which they actually work on something to try to make up for all the dead content years. Calling in all the Voice Actors AFTER a name was chosen and recording all the new voicelines are easy 3-6 months…
So no new content in that time period… AGAIN.

Anyway, renaming that hero wont help any victims of sexual assault or make the crimes disappear.
The only thing that disappears is a beloved fictional character and every good memory if him will now be tainted because YOU made that cowboy a sexual predator now.

Changes need to be done at Blizzard for sure. Renaming a truly beloved fictional character (helped by Matthew Mercers voice acting and Michael Chu’s writing) is not what is needed.

Thanks Blizzard for ruining another good thing for me and million others!

Yes, clearly it wasn’t naming the character after the guy that made the connection. It’s us undoing our mistake…

I think this is just a marketing stunt.

Some people really are sick, eh? Maybe they don’t want to develop a character named after a predator? His name doesn’t even matter.

Blizzard won’t put your feelings above their global reputation and stock value at such a sensitive time when they’ve already lost billions in stock value. It’s great you’re sharing your thoughts and feelings on the issue, since that’s the purpose of a discussion forum, but just don’t expect anything to change. They have their hands tied behind their backs and right now this Mccree name change is the least of their problems.

I mean i agree that it could just be a way to turn away the bad PR, pretty much a marketing stunt… though in the other hand it’s just a name.
