Strange disconnect penalty

Something strange happened today: I disconnected during a match from the server. No big deal, got back after 10-20 seconds and didn’t even lost any ult charge (or medals). Game ended with a draw (Hanamura). After a game I got hit with -73 SR and 10 minutes penalty.

I don’t mind -73 SR, I will get it back. What I’m concerned about is getting penalty for… actually nothing. My team didn’t even see that I was gone (no red box with leaver info).

I’m posting this not to whine about it. I’m posting to ask you if this happened to any of you before. For all I know this may be a bug (game not recognising I was back or something like that).

The Penalty is working as intended. When playing competitive, the game expects you to never leave until the game actually ends. Leaving thus should be penalized. Even when you join back, you jeopardized your team’s chance of success by abadoning them for a few seconds.

However, I don’t think this was always like that. I remember an exploit where you can respawn faster by leaving the game. During that time, you didn’t get penalized for leaving and joining back. I assume they changed it to prevent that exploit.
