Stuck in Silver because of team

Hi all.

Today, I was playing a game with my friend. We were against a Pharah who wasn’t very good. I was playing Junk/Reaper as people don’t know how to counter them very well in Silver. However, this Pharah did. This Pharah was doing so much for the enemy team. We had a soldier who was in GOLD. Soldier provides an easy counter for Pharah as you can kill her literally with a headshot and around 2-3 body shots. This Soldier was incapable of doing that. I killed the Pharah as Reaper/Junk around 7 times that game. I did not see the Soldier kill the Pharah once. We ended up losing that game and luckily, I only lost around 10 SR as I had 3 golds and a bronze medal.

How do these people have higher ranks than me? I need answers. How can somebody as bad as our soldier today get the rank above me? It doesn’t make sense. The people who commit to the game the most get placed so low. I’ve been an overwatch player since 2017. Although my playing experience has been on and off, I still think of myself as a Platinum player stuck with bad teammates. For now, my solution is to gain about 15 sr a game playing in a 3stack with my silver friends who face my exact problem.

Moreover, comms in Silver are not good. I’ll admit, I’m a bit insecure about the pitch of my voice but I still say what I can to give a sufficient amount of information to my teammates. I’ve even heard people who sound 9 or 10 give good comms yet some of my team just can’t, despite being in TVC.

Let me know your thoughts in the replies

No hitscan? Against a flying target?

Close Quarter heroes and someone limited by gravitational pull on his weapons?
That’s your fault.

Then if he isn’t performing well take it up to yourself.
Your fault for not taking initiative.

Replay code please.

Medals don’t matter.

SR / MMR is decided with a win/loss ratio.

Also you don’t know if the soldier always performs like that, you don’t know how he is.

When you started playing: Doesn’t matter (We have dia portraits in Silver)

Your playing experience clearly isn’t enough to bring your team through.

You think of yourself as Platinum, really?
You’ve been focussing on becoming skilled independetly, though that won’t work in a team-focussed game.

Maybe you should focus some more on team base play.

LFG system, will most likely provide players with good comms.

I don’t think we need 2 heroes to counter 1 hero.

I would’ve taken it on myself. However, during the game I was the only one peeling & killing tanks.

I’ll get the replay code when I can
UPDATE: R35Q1B

Medals show how well you’re doing compared to your team. I used this to show how I don’t belong in silver.

The soldier was pretty horrific. He was constantly asking where the heals were and barely used his self-heal.

How am I supposed to play more team-based when I can’t even communicate with them? It’s like trying to teach a bird how to not get run over.

LFG is a good shout. However, I want to know that who I’m playing with is good.

This game isn’t balanced on 1v1 situations.

Alright thank you!

Teammates aren’t a good representation of an entire ranking.

Well you can blame him then.

Do some random LFG’ing and friend players you find that play well, queue up with them later on.

Honestly everybody has bad games. But you cannot blame all of your losses on your teammates. There is one consistent factors in all of your games… YOU. If you are not climbing you are probably where you should be or maybe higher.

A note on your points. The duel between a hitscan and pharah is not a easy win for the hitscan, it is a duel, do not think that one hero will stomp on another that is rarely the case.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m climbing. Just really, really slowly. I climb a lot of SR each game but when I get a bad teammate or multiple and we don’t win the game, I lose so much SR.

On another note; in order to better help the team, I’ve decided to learn Soldier: 76. This allows me to ‘fill’ any holes in our DPS field.

This can be said in any rank. The thing is, you have to learn to identify what is happening and what to do and say to help preventing those mistakes.
The replay was a clown fiesta, but the worst offender (and not by much) were your tanks. I mean playing Orisa hog with ZERO halt+hook combos is the most pointless hero usage ever. Not to say that Rein+Orisa, both being passive its like playing with barriers that do nothing.
Lucio barely using anything besides healing, not booping enemies out of position, Ana being a heal bot trying to top up hog when its at 450+ HP instead of shooting pharah, the other DPS just spamming barriers or trying to hit a pharah mid air with pharah … I could write a 4000 word essay.

They mean little to nothing because:

  • You cant see your teams medals, So you could “brag” about having 15k damage, when literally the rest of the team can be on 13k ish, which means if you are the DPS, you are doing BAD in comparison.
  • Having the gold or silver or bronze means nothing because even if you do the LOWEST contribution, if your team is getting destroyed all the time, being the “less awful” of your team, teaches you nothing but bad habits. You think because you have gold you did good, therefore you believe your team mates were to blame.
