[Suggestion] Extra Ultimate Abilities

This would be no different with my idea. Except you would have to press Tab and go from there. Which isn’t hard to do.

Admittedly I don’t watch a lot of Esports. But I don’t think bans would help; that’s not in the nature of Overwatch. Adding more combos, counters and heroes would definitely work better for OW.

That won’t work better, if something good gets counted by something better it will just make for a new meta until the better thing gets a nerf or stuff that counter it gets added making for a new meta. Just like the moba games.
On top of that it lets every rank deal with its problems.
It lets high rank remove the staple tank picks like Rein and it lets lower ranks remove Tracers.
Im sure that high rank tanks will enjoy some freedom and that low level supports will enjoy not getting stumped by Tracers.

Ok. So how does this actually work then? Each team gets to disable a few heroes or something? Is it something that the developers would set, or something that players would vote on before a match starts?

I think 1 hero ban per team is kinda the preferred amount atm.
Either by voting or you could have a person choose for the team.
In any case the ban phase would probably be just before the hero select screen.

Some people also ask for a protect phase before you get to ban.
This would work the same way.

My main concern about such a system is how much time it would add before the game started. But compared to the possible queue time increase from system like role queue, i don’t think it’ll be as big an issue.

Definitely sounds like a plausible idea, with Blizzard adding more and more heroes it might make sense.

I just fear that some heroes would be permanently banned; like Reinhardt, as he’s a crucial part of any team. But that would at least allow other heroes to be played and it would encourage teams to play different comps/strategies if their original one gets smashed with the hero ban.

A hero would only be banned constantly if there’s a balance issue.
Reinhardt is not the only main tank and are not crucial for every team no.
For example there’s Dive comps that uses Winston+D.Va and Bunker that uses Orisa+D.Va/Hog.

Jayne hosted some PUGs and i believe a tournament once with protect & ban a while back.

He also posted results of which heroes were banned and protected during the tournament.

One random teammate out of the 6 gets like 30 sec to select and ban one hero from the other team or for both teams. This is blind, meaning that the 2 teams see the bans at the exact same time right as the pick phase starts.

That way, the same hero can be banned by the 2 teams.
If a teammate doesn’t want to ban they can just skip it.
I’m still not sure if its ok that the banned hero can or can’t be picked by the team that set the ban. That’s for blizzard to try out.
And i think that adding “protect” will just remove the premise of removing what’s most “op”.

I’ve warmed to the idea to be fair. Originally my first thought was ‘Oh but there’ll always be certain heroes that will get banned’. But not necessarily. ByeBoomStick’s post on the most protected / banned heroes was a little surprising, with D-Va. But I can definitely see Mercy or Rein being banned a lot.

I guess if they get banned a lot, Blizzard might look into why and potentially change them. I don’t know :open_mouth:
