Hi, not sure if anyone else has been victim of an unfair report system but I certainly have, and its really really frustrating to play the game when you fear the fact that people can abuse the reports for simple things. I’ve played Minecraft through my childhood and from this played many servers, which all implemented report systems with some features which made it a lot more fair, so here’s what I think would be very beneficial:
Disable being able to report for abusive chat if a player hasn’t sent any messages in team/match chat during a game. I feel like some people know the system goes off the volume of reports, so can just report for abusive chat and hope that this results in an account action, so by disabling it if no messages have been sent during that game, it combats that issue. But of course, if a player was invited to a group and potentially received inapp communications, reports should be allowed.
Introduce a severity system for types of messages. I find it funny that people can be reported and actioned for saying ‘ez’ at the end of the game, course I don’t agree with saying this, however its just very strange that Overwatch has a DVA Hero voice line saying the same thing, but if enough reports you could build up a permanent ban from this singular message. This is why I think severity offenses should come into play, for example Severity 1 could be saying ‘ez’ which results in lesser punishments and certainly shouldn’t end up with a permanent ban, but severity 2/3 offenses are more rude things, inclusive of racial hatred etc, and this should result in more severe punishments.
Now I’m not sure if this is the case, but if you play 100 games a day, you are far more likely to receive 10 reports than if you played 15 games, even if nothing occurred, so if this isn’t already built in, build in a system which takes into account the volume of games you have played, and the fraction of those games which you were reported in should decide whether you are punished or not. For example, playing 100games and receiving 5 reports is only a 1/20 report ratio, so I feel that this shouldn’t get you a suspension, whereas playing 15 games and getting say 5 reports show you have been reported in a 1/3 of your games, which can indicate you are rule-breaking.
Inform a player if they have been reported after a game ends, I feel this would be beneficial because some players don’t realise what they are saying can land them a report, for example if you were to tell a player to swap, some people take this as an opportunity to report, by informing players after a match if they were reported, it gives them an opportunity to reflect on their past game, as well as note down whether they believe a report was false, as if they keep track of this, if they are suspended they can help support identify false reports and make it easier to get unbanned.
Ask some users ‘Are you really sure you want to send this message?’, this should be a prompt asked by the system when a user is about to send a toxic message, this could help prevent toxicity and make the community overall more positive.
Seems fair, but voice makes that hard to implement I’d imagine
Another fair suggestion. I wonder in their AI learning system can do that. It’s have to learn the contextual meaning of things too… So might be a long way off yet.
The system isn’t on straight numbers of report, it’s on a report to game ratio. So it doesn’t matter how many games you play. If you get reported 10x in a row, you’re in their cross hairs.
I get your point, but this will mean you’re quite likely to know who reported you. And they really want to avoid vindictive behaviour and revenge attacks by the less stable members of the community.
Another good suggestion. Not sure how possible it is, but it’s a good idea.
This should be bannable. No return.
We should be given the right to ban the ability to even group with such players - in advance of Blizzard taking action. I want nothing to do with these people.
Good idea. The specific of the report would also be good.
You even get perm banned for playing symmetra all day every day with an 82% winrate
Agreed got a chatban on another account when chat is dissabled… But no unban, sadge
Dissagree, wether you’re provoking someone or just being straight up toxic. It both should be punished severely. I even think that saying “ez” in chat should be punished even more since provoking players usually ends up getting them banned and yes I abuse this. A voice line is just a game feature that people can abuse, no big deal.

False reports happen, but getting unbanned for false reports is hard since a human response to a ban appeal happens only after a few weeks since they can’t respond to everyone at the same time. Informing someone after every single report will make them abuse the system. Informing someone what they did wrong when getting a warning should be better imo.
Would be a nice addition to the game but a toxic message is different to everyone. Every message involving some sort of criticism will hurt somebody’s feelings. It’s a game, people want to have fun they don’t want to be told what to do when it’s not constructive criticism.
gameplay sabotage, my team was mad that I was the one mercy was pocketing vs a pharmercy, yet we didn’t die once, they asked everyone to report the both of us… after that game I got instantly banned
Just an incorrect report then. Pity Blizzard don’t provide a similiar “Overwatch” feature where credible users can provide their feedback/vote on whether the report should be actioned upon for instance instead of relying on blind reports.
I played her since she was a “support”. Nowadays I don’t since people yell at me or they throw games just to make their point that you have to counter swap which I do if we are losing ofc. But when I play sym or moira nowadays I get racial comments since my in game name is Icelandic and some people think that’s “funny” when I’m not from there so I’m trying to quit the game but I always come back since there is no game that I enjoy more than ow…
I love the report system. If anyone says GG after a match I get to report them and get the most entertaining part of OW2 and thats watching all the notifs for action being taken against all the people who dared to say “GG” at the end of a match, my team and enemy team! So much fun to abuse a piss poor automated report system
