I know everyone reading this is going to be like “oh, here goes another mercy otp ranting about mercy”. and it is true to some degree, but I like to think of myself as support main who likes to play the following supports by order:
1- Mercy
2- Ana
3- Moira
4- Brigitte
5- Zen
6 - Lucio
Now the issue, we don’t have a lot of supports in overwatch currently, and in order to play support in GM or higher level without pissing off your team is to play Lucio Zen or Ana. I get it, they perform better than other supports currently. Why can’t we have all other “weaker” supports to a stronger position so we can actually have diversity in comp. Moira, for example, she has the lowest pick rate between all supports and blizzard doesn’t change anything about it since she came out, instead they nerfed her healing now to not heal people behind barriers (which affects her pick rate even more). and don’t say mercy is strong because she’s not, otherwise, people won’t get mad if you pick her in comp.
My point is, painting is fun with a variety of colors instead of only a few, same goes for playing supports.

I’m healer main, but have no idea how the GM meta works coz i’m just an average high gold. I go on the forums a lot, but this has been the first healer topic that’s NOT HAVING A GO AT MERCY. I pick Moira a lot, but only when I get tired of main healer. I also play Mercy, Zen and Brig (although Brig has been nerfed into the ground). Zen is definitely good in comp, no questions asked. Mercy is strong, but unless positioning is perfect, she dies quickly and doesn’t get enough healing in. Ana is a brilliant healer, I just have the aim of a donkey, and Lucio is great (but not for me). There should be more healers added, but the OW team should also focus more on balancing existing heroes for sure.
Only problem is the relatively low skill cap on Moria/Mercy is why at the top end they are less powerful. They are quite easy to play compared to the other characters.
Both are also relatively easy to kill with the skill of people at GM level since they have to maintain LoS to heal and healers are a primary target. Zen and Brig are more hybrids with dps/tank parts as well and relatively low healing which is why Anna is so popular since she can stay at long range and pop in/out as needed.

As has been demonstrated with Reaper, buffing things to make them viable at the highest level of play makes them oppressive in the lower ranks. There is no problem with some heroes being picked more than others in different ranks, so long as they are balanced, valuable and fun.
Different supports work in different team comps, they’re not interchangeable, nor should they be.
I agree, and that’s why Zen makes an excellent healer
