Text Profanity Filter Settings Are Not Respected

I just played a game during which I was called out for being “********”. Because I have Text Profanity Filters set to Mature I assumed this was the played manually typing asterixes to censor themself. That is until seconds later when they sent another team chat messege simply with the text “re torded” or something to that effect to circumvent the profanity filters. After this I suspected that my Text Profanity Filter settings were not being respected. After winning said game I was able to confirm this bug by apologizing for my being slowed (verb) or offensively of a person with a learning disability (noun) using the word which begins with “r”. The word which begins with “r” and means to be slowed (verb) or offensively of a person with a learning disability (noun) I had typed in my apology was censored, even on my screen. Incidentally, this is also weird, since a player who has typed a message already knows what they typed and censoring a word they typed on their screen only serves to let that player know that they must type that word in some roundabout way to circumvent the profanity filters, making the filters useless. I imagine this matters to players who have the Text Profanity Filters set to Friendly.

Finally, it is strange that the word which begins with “r” and means to be slowed (verb) or offensively of a person with a learning disability (noun) was censored at all, since it is not always an offensive word. How does the filter distinguish between a player commenting on another players ability to learn versus a player commenting on another players being slowed by an in-game ability like Mei’s Blizzard for instance? My guess is it doesn’t, because I wasn’t allowed to post this topic which discusses the word academically before removing all substrings of the word itself.

It is literally used as a slur, just like the “n” word. Both inaproppriate and thus not allowed.

why have maturity options then?

Just because you’re fine with mature chat, doesn’t mean slurs are allowed in any shape or form.

Slurs are literally only used to insult others, there is no excuse to ever use them.

and if u are not fine with it just change the settings, ez pz

Slurs are not allowed in any chats, as there is no neutral way of using the words. Slurs, by definition, are used to insult others or used to insinuate negative things.

Very different to your run of the mill cussing, which can be aimed at yourself, inanimate objects, situations and others.

ok and?u not mature enough to be insulted and not be buthurt, then dont use mature settings

While it can be used as a slur and was on this occation, it certainly is not always used that way. It is also literally a verb which means to reduce velocity and used in such a context it is definitely not offensive at all.

This argument doesn’t make any sense. Censoring the word for someone who has set the Filter setting to mature isn’t necessary in order to punish the player who sent the message and only serves to imply that my mind is to fragile to handle reading a mere slur in an online text chat with people I can easily choose to ignore. Frankly the censorship itself is more offensive than the any slur which might be aimed at me.

You are 100%. But still, no need to use it in game.

If that’s what you are trying to convey, “slow down” is more than sufficient.

If you’re typing you have all the time to think about what words you’re using. Just be smarter with it.

It’s frustrating that you can get muted or even banned for using slurs even though there’s a profanity filter that users can turn on or off. If the filter exists to give people control over what they see, it feels like you should be allowed to say what you want (to some extend), especially since others have the option to filter it out.

That’s just my opinion though since you say one curse word, and people then immediatly act like a bunch of nine-year-olds whoose mommy told them that curse words are dangerous to society.
