I have mainly played Symmetra for my whole Overwatch career. I really liked the hero overhaul and it made her more viable in more situations.
However, the new teleport which is on the PTR right now is a step back for Symmetra. For those that don’t know, it now stays up for an infinite time until destroyed or cancelled. When it is destroyed or cancelled, it has a 15 second cooldown instead of 12 (which started immediately when you placed down the teleporter before - now the cooldown starts when it’s destroyed or cancelled).
This change promotes that you should have a teleporter up at all times, like teleporting team mates from spawn faster to the point… and this is really bad.
When you start to get good at Symmetra, you learn that the teleporter is something that most of the time is used reactively and in dire situations, like an escape tool, or something which you can use aggressively.
Do you know the enemy Genji has blade? You hold on to the teleporter and use it to teleport away to safety when he gets close. Do the enemy team have a Winston? Then you use the teleporter as soon as you see him jump towards you. Is the enemy team in a location which can be flanked by a good teleport? You announce it to your team and teleport. Is a team player coming from spawn and you need back up fast? You turn around and teleport your team mate. Did you and your team mate(s) die? You teleport from spawn to get there quicker. Is someone in the enemy backline in a bad position, you turret bomb (teleporting 3 turrets) him/her… or just to place 3 turrets behind the whole enemy team can be effective too.
I know you can still do all this if you just place down the teleporter and then cancel it right away, but Symmetra didn’t need a nerf. I’m still getting avoids and lots of sh*t talk and reports because I play the hero I like the most. If anything she needed a buff so people can stop complaining. But really, she was fine.
Yes I also think the teleport change was not nessesary, just keep the teleporter as it was it was just fine.

I haven’t played her on the ptr or anything, but why not just bring back her old teleporter instead.
Teleport bad? Her entire rework sucks.
They should have just fixed her overpowered primary fire from the beginning. That bendy OP lock primary was what didn’t make sense about her. She could jump around while holding M1, no skill, and kill 2-3 squishy enemies. Instead they changed it all and completely ruined her ult which used to have some character, and is now just another shield albeit bigger, wow, so original.
Because the new one is better and opens up a more creative and flexible playstyle. But let’s not go off topic here. I’m discussing the PTR changes.
i like the symetra rework it makes sense… she’s been seen as a throw pick because she is so hard to coordinate with the rest of the team making her less effective but now she can easily set up a back line short cut to the high ground everyone can use easily making her very valuable… she will make bastion bunkers more obnoxious though…
It does limit her own personal use of the teleporter though… so play styles will have to shift a bit…
It may also distract tracers and other flankers since they may be playing hide and seek with the teleporter rather then take out picks on the enemy team… they may start spawn room camping as a result though…
Sombra also may start going for teleporters… that and ambushing anyone trying to use it…
Read the patch notes today and you changed it back to 12 seconds cooldown and re-use time to 1 second. Thanks Blizzard!
It’s still a slight nerf to Symmetras mobility though, since the cooldown starts when the teleporter is destroyed and not when it’s placed like it used to before.
Let me put up a example scenario here. You’re facing an enemy. Let’s say a McCree. You place down the teleporter behind him, you hold your rightclick and release, you hold your rightclick again, you use the teleporter, you release rightclick, as soon as you see him turn around you teleport back and use use this teleporter for mobility and to confuse the enemy.
On the old build, the cooldown would be at around 6 seconds now. But on PTR the cooldown on the teleporter haven’t even started yet.
And I imagine I would get in scenarios when I feel like I have to destroy my teleporter instantly after teleporting just to start my cooldown, which is actually reducing the teleporter up-time for my team mates.
Why not just have the cooldown start when you place the teleporter like before?
i say its still a major buff since she will now be easier to work in a team meaning you get more value out of her which has been a big issue for her…
