The passive that Roadhog needs

Ive been playing Roadhog since Overwatch 1 since around 2018. Ever since then I’ve done my best to protect my team. But I dont have a shield. So I use my body and become the shield. But then I’m basically feeding ult charge with not much in return. So I thought, “Why not just make Hog the shield?”

So my passive idea is basically this…

Bodyguard: Anyone directly behind Roadhog is in cover.

Meaning, Sojourn Rail is stopped by Hog, it doesn’t penetrate him, D-va bomb Reaper Blossom, High noon, or Junk tire? Only Hog takes the damage, anyone directly behind him is safe as if they where behind a wall. Basically make Roadhog act like a Reinhardt barrier as far as blocking damage with his hit box.

I think this would incentivize more team play from Roadhogs while also fitting his back story.

Hog does not need anything to make him more viable.

He should be a middle of the road pick. Good if you have low healing resources and need to keep yourself up a little more. And that’s it.

Don’t give him anything that makes him strong. The game is awful when he’s meta.

I respectfully disagree with the idea that this change would make him “viable.” While it would provide him with some defensive options to protect his teammates, the majority of players would not benefit from it as they tend to play like it’s Team Deathmatch, straying far from the cart or objective in pursuit of elims. Furthermore, the addition of this feature does not necessarily imply that something else will not be removed or reduced in its place.

The only way an ability like that could be viable on Hog is if something is removed. Like most of his self healing.

He already has defensive options to protect his team. His is designed to be a bullet sponge. He takes the enemy damage, and in return he gets ult charge (when he heals). Face tanking.
