The report system of Overwatch and OTPs

Hello, fellow forum-dwellers.

I am here criticize the system Blizzard has for suspending players and also to get consulted by you on how to avoid suspensions in my situation.

I have gotten banned for the first time in the start of the summer and from then till now I have gotten 4 more suspensions. Toxicity and inactivity/sabotage are the two things they suspend my account for committing.

I never go afk or throw games intentionally, I am very competetive and always try my hardest to win. Toxicity-wise I have found out that writing “Please report ??? for throwing :)” is toxicity, so that I am guilty off, I just didn’t know of it being bannable to let the enemy team know if you have a toxic teammate or a griefer.

Overwatch’s reportsystem only look at how many reports you get, not what the evidence of you committing them is.

Quantity > Quality

When I appeal suspensions, the GMs can’t remove the suspensions even though they have no proof of me sabotaging or going afk. Even if I record every match I play as proof, it’s not enough evidence for them to remove my suspension.

Does anyone have some insight to this or experiences similar to mine with this report system?

And as the last thing I would like some tips from you guys, if you have any throw them at me, as I play a lot of off-meta heroes in high ranking, which makes people report me often, even though I am cooperating in voice chat and playing properly. How do I avoid getting reports from my team and the enemy team?
I have started over the summer asking my team every game “Hey guys, is it okay if I play Symmetra this game?”, and if not, I play something different. That makes the game boring, as nobody wants a Symmetra on their team, so I rarely got to play her, but still got my account suspended, just slower than usual.

Thanks for reading. Looking forward to see if you have the same experience with the report system as I do.

Well atm sym is in a really bad spot, can you really blame anyone for not wanting her?

Like after they removed syms ability to buff other teammates with shield/hp aka sym 1.0 they just made her a troll pick just to give her a better ulty since gens just gets camped at high level. Like old sym use to help flankers new sym helps immobile heroes (and its not to much of a help imho best thing you can do with new sym is get Ana/bastion/torb on highground) and shes still only good at defending and shes still only good only on some maps specifically the ones who have good highgrounds that immobile heroes can’t get on like anubis point A.
I still fail to see who the new sym is good vs or counters that other heroes don’t counter way better and safer.

I have no solution to your problem but to stop playing sym until she is meta. Im a one-trick myself and even i won’t play my main if i know that his in a bad spot. Got banned for one tricking widow when genji/tracer hold the meta picks (Aka the time without a Brigitte to counter them).

Imo Sym and Sombra are still the most troll picks in this game. Atm even Torb is better for a team since he can snowball with armor. I miss the sym that gives everyone 25 energy hp.

I have played Overwatch since beta and been GM with her since season 2 of Overwatch. I am really good at playing Symmetra and 3.0 is the strongest she has ever been. She is stronger on offense than defense now, IMO.

I usually show people that symm is good by letting them know my winrate with her is 65%, which includes the toxicity and throwers I get from picking her. So without that, Maybe I could get her to 75% winrate.

Maybe I should start a youtube channel showing off Symmetra skills to start making her part of meta and get people to see how well she can be used.

Like tips on how to play off-meta heroes and info on why they are off-meta.

That’s good and all but what do you counter as Sym other then zoning ults with your ult. Not to say that if you want to help a bastion or torb get on high ground you need to have a team that is going to run something like Torb/bastion + Sym that can get shut down by one widow or hanzo.

Like at high rank Sym is still hopeless I tryed her. Shes good at spamming orbs and turrets when it comes down to fighting the moment you get close to use your primary fire without a good set up for her she just gets clicked in the head or brawed away by the tanks. Her primary fire is good but the old one was better since sym used to just rapidly move to the side and crouch now they have to look death on their target limiting their mobility if they want to get the dips.

Not to say that sym needs a team set up shes not a hero that can be picked in every team comp and she needs to communicate with the team non stop.

I really want sym to work but it takes to much so i gived up on her. She was my 1st main hero up untill i had like 20h on her then i droped her. Its much easier to pick a Widow and do good by killing someone making the game into a 5 v 6 then it is to make a team comp around sym.

PS mei’s wall is low key better then sym TP since on most maps it can do the same job but not on every map. Like people dont like mei and shes low key like sym: primary fire attacks for 1 sec and freezes sym gets more dmg, secondary attack fires a proj but meis can crit, wall can block and be used to position teammates syms tp can just reposition but better. syms turrets slow and mais attack slows. Thing is mei will do better in tank braws.

Hey, I know that feeling!
I am a Junkrat Main and I really love playing him especially on certain maps.

Unluckily, people hate certain heroes without knowing how good the actual player behind the hero ist.

This is a big problem in Overwatch but you have to get along with that, i guess.
I keep getting hated playing Junkrat until I prove them wrong and so should you do.

greetings from germany!

the report system is a piece of disfunct garbage which is more a bully system than anything else and needs to be scrapped asap.

When X sends “Please report Y” I always report X for abusive chat regardless of how many smileys are in the message. It’s like X trying to make Y an outcast. I’m wondering that it could perhaps make sense to kindly mention in the chat that “‘Please report’ counts as abusive chat”.

Sometimes I’m also a target of these “Please report” messages when playing bastion but it is relatively rare because bastion isn’t my main. So far I didn’t have any report related issues. Yesterday for example I received a “Please report bastion” in the middle of a match that we actually won in the end and interestingly the guy who sent the message was playing trollbjörn.

I guess many players are stupid enough to execute the “Please report” order. When someone speaks confidently with “authority” a lot of other players are willing to execute it even if the order is plain stupid. Many times when someone asks the others to overextend they are so happy to go and die.

Those “please report x” messages always confuse me. If the problem is with their own team, why do they have to pull the other team into the trouble?

Well, I never used the report function at all. It’s more of a personal reason why I never used it. Basically, it’s because I don’t care if someone insults me and I haven’t met a real thrower yet. (I do play comp a lot less than QP)

Devils advocate:

  • Stop focusing on shifting the blame on the system.

Yeah, we all know. No, we truly do. Check my profile, i play sym A LOT but so help me god i do play other things and the hate i get is none or close to zero.

You can play sym for 2 out of 3 points and the gesture of saying yourself, “well, this isnt working, lets try this instead”. That is HUGE.

A lot of reporting comes with people not liking you so if you are an OTP you have a bad reputation to start with. Someone that refuses to switch and has a private profile is also called an OTP by default so yeah, that doesn’t help either. If you end up making enemies from your allies, the report button will be used but if you built in a good vibe, you can do many things.

PS: Never use the WR as something on your favor. It wont work for very logical reasons.
