I couldn’t play the first few days due to personal issues, so I’d planned to grind it out on the last day. I had 17 hours left to complete it, which I thought would be enough given I’d completed the last one by casually playing comp every day for about 4-5 hours each. This time I’d spent the entire 17 hours straight trying to get it and I have lost more games in a row than I ever have in the last 4 years of playing this game.
Every time I get close to the next checkpoint I get sent straight back to the beginning because of loss after loss, most of which really shouldn’t have happened. When there was about 6 hours left I’d reached 15 points shy of 3200, followed by another straight nosedive back to the last checkpoint. I’d spent those last 6 hours grinding back to the last game needed to complete it, dropping 4 skill divisions in the process, with 8 minutes of the event remaining. I played my games as quickly as I could and ended the match after 8:12, only to find that because the event ended the last match didn’t count… I feel so unimaginable miserable getting robbed again and again from getting that last title and then having my last chance at success be proven fruitless.
Having each checkpoint cost more to reach and/or the amount lost per loss was so badly balanced that it’s making me consider dropping a game I’ve been returning to as pretty much the only game I play for the last 4 years.
I mean this from the bottom of my very being, I absolutely DESPISED this drives event and I kind of hope Marvel Rivals kills Overwatch if this is how each drives event is going to be balanced.
To any devs who may be reading this: give the people who finished their last game of the event after the timer ended their progress, because the current situation is one of the dumbest design choices I’ve ever witnessed.
And to whoever came up with increasing the amounts needed per checkpoint, I wish very dark things upon you.
