This monetization is disgusting

It’s absolutely crazy how Blizzard is so obnoxious with how little they care about game quality and how much they’re simply prioritising quick revenue returns > longevity and reputation.

Diablo Immortal was the beginning. Obscene pay to win, don’t care about the IP, don’t care if the game dies, better make a quick penny.

Overwatch 2 feels the same, release a half-finished product, overload the servers, call in a friendly DDoS, ignore the fact that you literally need the best part of a year of playing the game to get a single skin.

What’s next? Heroes of the Storm: Reforged.

It really sucks because Blizzard used to be the reputable company you look up to, now it’s turning into one of the most disgraceful whale-hunting companies in the industry.

they upped the price of everything else. milking the cow as they say, that’s what F2P games are about really.

There’s plenty of F2P games with more realistic models for cosmetics. This is just an embarrassing display of trying to grab as much money as possible.

Give some examples? Valorant is worst, Fortnite is worst.

And be proud you get 60 coins per week, some games I know would give you nothing.

blizzard have been doing that for a loooong time though, especially on wow and the amount they charge for faction change / race change n such, not to mention upping the monthly subscription.

You’re forgetting the fact Overwatch 1 would give you free things on a regular basis, right? Now a single skin in Overwatch 2 costs more than Overwatch 1 cost for the game, plus countless loot boxes with tonnes of free cosmetics. They have simply re-released the exact same game, smacked a harsher monetisation model onto it and people are eating it up.

You forgot overwatch 1 was paid and 2 is f2p.

plus you have free stuff on batlepass.

Buying a single skin costs double the amount of a battle pass.
You have to grind for 40 weeks to buy a skin.

The free stuff in the battlepass is trash and it’s sole purpose is to entice you into paying for the full thing. If you can’t see that, I’m not sure how to show that to you.

I don’t quite think you get the point here.

I think a tremendous amount of players would’ve been happy to pay upfront for the game.

But, take a quick peek at Reddit Overwatch if you don’t quite understand where the OP is coming from. There’s over 10k upvotes on several posts about this.

Diablo immortal was just the start. 3.5 years of OW2 production and it feels like we took a step backwards.

All Mobile games are to steal money from players.
All of them have predatory monetization.

But is not blizzard fault the basic of it, after all a Simple game like candy crush, easy to make, made more money than overwatch during all the years.

Overwatch 1 wasn’t predatory. They have literally disabled access to Overwatch 1. Released ‘OvErWaTcH 2’ that is the exact same game with a balance patch and have forced a harsher more predatory monetization method onto it.

This isn’t just a new game release. They have literally blocked us from playing the game we paid for and forced us to play a greedy version of it, by saying it’s ‘new’.

And of course it’s Blizzards fault, the f***?

So that means we don’t have a right to be annoyed at the service provided, right? Keep riding Blizzard.

You have the right but you can’t do anything about it to make them bring overwatch 1 back.

you dont have free stuff on battlepass since you have to pay for battlepass lol

yeah

The battle pass have a free version with some stuff if not mistaken.

So I made a search and you get:

Kiriko at level 55,
Two Epic Skins
Weapon charm
Two souvenirs
Highlight intro
14 other items
And some titles

with free version.
At minimum you get 20 items for free.

Correct. Once again the Wolf is incorrect in its assumption.

Most of the useful stuff is free.

They didn’t because the game was free. OW1 is a different game, but to be nice to people they are removing SMS verification requirements for old OW1 players.

What exactly is different that warranted a new title? Instead of a balance patch?

no we paid for ow1 and they got rid of it?

That would be a correct statement had they kept OW1 up as an option, they didn’t and forced people to play Overwatch2.

Rather than being nice it’s more about saving their public image, while they won’t publicly mentioned it they didn’t do enough research on how the SMS protect would affect people.
