i cant comment on anything lower than masters but throwing is a joke.
everyone in these ranks are good enough and confident enough to climb back but when you get 4-5 throwers in a row that like 2 hours of games and queues just wasted.
its kind of pathetic that its been an issue for so long and yet seems to be completely ignored by blizzard.
Assuming you reported (would be silly if you didn’t).
My question would be, what would you like them to do to stop it?
(it 100% isn’t being ignored, if people report it).
the only time people get banned is for cheating or abusive chat.
ive played with people that openly amdit to deranking, there are deranking groups in lfg and some just afk.
what would i do to stop it? enforce the rules that they have in place for one.
My friend tried to derank 2 accounts. Both got, correctly, closed because people reported him.
If no one reports, nothing happens.
So enforcing the rules is fine… but still won’t actually stop someone from throwing. You are dealing with the uncontrollable elements of the game.
I agree, it needs to stop, but you can’t stop someone throwing. Just like you can’t stop someone leaving.
Unless someone has a completely fool-proof way of stopping it. What more can that do than act on reports.
your friend is a minority. i have a few smurfs, as does everyone else, i dont care to keep them low though. but ive seen silver boarder accounts in diamond that play like mid masters min. its relatively simple to keep an account low because of something we like to call indirect throwing. play a bad hero, play something youre bad at, hell just look like youre participating in a fight and youre magically unbannable.
no, they cant completely stop it, but they can go harder on the rules. as it stands all suspensions are automated meaning nothing but the amount of reports matter. the thing is, the amount of reports for any form of action to be taken is apparently absurdly high. if 8 out of the 11 other players in the game report someone for throwing, do you not think that it should be looked into?
or at the very least, why is abusive chat punished more than cheating and throwing combined? you can say a few words and get banned but actively ruin the experience for 11 players and you’re probably gonna be fine.
The abusive chat one is easy to explain… Someone saying something is easy to prove. Either they did or they didn’t, it’ll be there in writing.
Someone “throwing” is harder to prove. How do you know someones not just having a bad day. Or had a couple of drinks to many. So it needs to be a lot more blatant. And people get banned for it all the time.
They had a wave of bans for people throwing when queuing as flex to get passes quicker.
Most people won’t report the smarter throwers, because they will never notice. Another reason why it takes longer for them to get banned… They just don’t get reported enough.
Where as people know what constitutes “abusive chat” and rightly report it quickly.
i know why abusive chat is punished more, i used it more to show the disproportionate amount of reports needed. abusive chat is easy to avoid, there is a mute function. i physically cannot avoid all throwers. it is a literal impossibility.
if its so hard to prove then leave it up to the community and implement a system similar to overwatch is csgo. we all know the queue times give us plenty of time to spend looking through other peoples games.
as for most people not reporting, thats kinda why i have an issue with the amount of reports it takes for action to be taken.
no, they really don’t. the rules are incredibly vague and you can and will be reported / silenced for saying anything that could possibly be taken in a negative way.
fun fact, ive had suspensions justified by things said before being suspended. its almost like the system doesnt work.
As for your CSGO suggestion. I have asked for that a few times and think it would definitely be a good idea.
And for people not knowing what abusive chat is, and it being vague…
### Communication
When participating in communication of any kind (chat, voice communication, group finder), you are responsible for how you express yourself. You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others.
Hate speech and discriminatory language is inappropriate, as is any obscene or disruptive language. Threatening or harassing another player is always unacceptable, regardless of language used. Violating any of these expectations will result in account restrictions. More serious and repeated violations will result in greater restrictions.
That is pretty clear as to what is abusive chat. So if you are telling someone in your team they are throwing or are bad or what ever, that would come under harassment. The rest is pretty obvious and if someone doesn’t understand that, then there is little hope lol.
yes, the rules are clear, the users interpretation of said rules is not. harassment can mean literally anything that can be taken negatively. ive had warnings for saying things like “we need to switch, this isnt working” or “can we get something to counter the phara that is currently uncontested”. why? because someone thought i was insulting their ability and so i was reported. its so easily abusable that i mostly choose just not to communicate because id rather take the loss than the inevitable reports. granted, it is abused a lot less in higher ranks but back when i was plat? oh man. it might be because you see the same people over and over in gm so the reports have diminishing value or something.
lets not forget that this game has a pretty good profanity filter but you dare say the f word and you could be banned because someone decided they wanted to be able to see that word in the first place.
You won’t get warnings for saying specific things. As you know, it is volume based.
You will get warning for being reported a large number of times, which will filter out the odd false reports. They say it shows a pattern of behaviour, rather that being a bit daft in one game.
If someone believes you to be insulting their ability, they have every right to report you. If this is was a misunderstanding, fine. Maybe learn from it and find better ways to deal with it.
Just because words are filtered, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be reported.
It is really just to be polite and respectful. And if your team don’t adjust to what is in front of them, you can just avoid them.
true, but when the only things said are of this nature its kinda hard to believe that its old reports coming back to bite me.
as much as it pains me to say it, meta is kind of important in gm. unless you are godly at some off meta pick, you’ll most likely lose if the enemy runs what is good and you dont. asking for comp changes happens a lot.
see now this is just not true. if someone chooses to read between the lines and come to the conclusion that it is them i am calling out, that says more about their ability than anything i could have possibly said.
it absolutely does. censorship shouldn’t be accepted. the game gives you the option not to be exposed to it, but to refuse someone’s right to use such versatile language as the f word is kind of a joke.
let me ask you this, how do you politely ask someone to switch?
Meta is technically important in all ranks. Just people don’t care/don’t have the ability to play the “right” heroes lower down.
Free speech is all good. But it isn’t free from consequences. Just being polite for 20 mins isn’t that difficult.
As for asking people to swap nicely. Why should they swap? If they genuinely believe that is the best hero for them to play, or the one they can have the most impact on then so be it. Maybe instead just swap to something that can enable them?
Not saying this is you, but in general, if you are unwilling to swap to help your team… why should they swap to what you want.
I watch Emongg a fair bit… Not once to you ever here people at the very top asking people to swap. They just play the heroes they believe give them the best chance to win. And if it doesn’t work, so be it. Just go again.
its far more forgiving though. meta below masters is just playing certain hero’s, not necessarily actually playing the meta.
again though, we seem to be ignoring the fact that people are choosing to be exposed to the langue. when this is an option, no one should be punished for using profanities.
if someone is being racist or homophobic then fair enough, but something like the f word that is mainly used as nothing more than an intensifier? nah dude.
do you want the real answer or the one you want to hear?
the real answer is the outcome of the game for 11 other people is based on it.
the answer you want to hear is they shouldnt because they paid for the game. but i hate to break it to you, so did their 5 teammates.
zen mercy is meta dude. im not sacrificing my impact on support to bring someone else up to par. why? because zen and mercy are, in most cases, must picks. the disadvantage you would be at if you chose not to run them is insane.
and lets not forget that no matter how hard i enable a junkrat, he is still gonna be near useless against echo who, might i remind you, is meta.
the mans is consistantly t500. he played professionally back in the day and came from playing tf2 professionally. he has the raw skill to win most games regardless. i, and 99% of the playerbase are not in his position.
i know what you mean but its kind of misleading. most otps dont do it because they think they are the best at a specific hero, they do it because they can and nothing more.
i wait 10 min at peak hours as support. ive seen queues go over an hour for dps. go again isnt as simple as it used to be.
One tricking isn’t against any rules. And I would rather someone pick the hero they are good on and enjoy.
Ultimately you can only worry about what you do. If you got the game to play one specific hero then so be it.
If I have someone like that on my team and I dont like what they do then I just avoid and move on. Can’t control others, but I can control who I play with (hence why I usually stack).
nor did i say it was.
and if that hero is hard countered or generally ineffective in the current meta? you just accept the artificial handicap imposed on you?
this just goes back to the issue of throwing. i physically cannot make up for someone who chooses to lose.
i can only avoid 3 players across 2 ranks and 3 roles. but yeah, ill just avoid them…
i can duo at most. no more stacks in gm dudio.
i think i should point out that i find it equally as bad when the enemy has a bad otp or a thrower. im not just complaining because i lost a few games.
I agree, you can’t do anything if someone wants to lose.
So just report them. It isn’t worth getting worked up over.
You will only need to avoid for an hour or 2. People always leave people avoided for too long… If they are actively deranking and you are just playing normally. They will be out of match making reach pretty quickly.
can we stop downplaying the value of peoples time? it isnt the end of the world for me as support, i can get another game within 15 min if im not playing at massive off peak hours but a dps player in a high rank? easy 20-25min at peak hours, never mind off peak. thats ignoring the time wasted in the unwinnable game too.
it doesn’t work like that in gm. there aren’t that many players, you run into the same people regularly. i played 4 games with someone yesterday and got them on my team 4 games in a row today too. that isnt an uncommon occurrence. just so happens that people seem to think this player was boosted too so needless to say they werent fun to play with or against.
i agree with you here but unless they are openly admitting to deranking then you have no indication of it they are trying to fall or just want to ruin a few games here and there.
and the sr range of gm games is pretty wide, ive been in games as high as 4.5 and as low as 3.6 as a 4200 player, they would stay in my potential matches for a lot longer than youd think.
