For newer players.
I’m around level 500, so anyone higher than that most likely won’t find this interesting.
Overwatch Combos I could think of:
1.Dragon Strike: Hanzo + Reinhardt. Reinhardt charges enemy into Dragons ultimate, with the effect of a long presence inside of ultimate.
1.1.Coalescence Strike: Moira + Reinhardt. Same strategy as N1.
1.2.Chaos Noon: Mcree + D.Va. D.Va launches her ultimate from one side so that it flies over enemies and lands behind them, forcing all shields and attention to face that side, and Mcree suddenly activates his ultimate from the same side D.Va’s ultimate was launched, preferrably from high position, causing immense chaos.
1.3.Bad combo: Flying Death.Your team Winston + enemy Reaper. Enemy Reaper starts ulting and your Winston decides to ult and push him out.Apparently with 50 dmg hits and reapers vampirism it becomes a flying death machine, if Winston fails it can help reaper to get a few kills when team mates of Winston can’t react in time.
1.4.Stealth Revival: Hanzo + Mercy. Basically Mercy taking advantage of Hanzo dragon ultimate and using it as a visual decoy and reviving a target inside/behind it, since it makes it harder to notice Mercy for enemies and plus melee units cannot approach her, or can not do it in time.
1.5.Coalescence Charge. Moira + Reinhardt. Just a safe Reinhardts charge, securing that he stays alive during his vulnerable period of charging, so that team does not lose it’s main presence character on the objective.
1.6.Destructive Ascension. D.va + Mei. Can be used in many ways, examples are: Mei putting ice wall under Reinhardts feet, so that he and his shield rises up, leaving allies exposed (can be removed right before explosion, if needed).Or Mei putting ice wall beneath D.Va’s ultimate on the floor and letting it reach enemies who were hidden behind obstacles, like cars or similar things.
1.7.Tank the MVP. Hog / Reinhardt + enemy D.Va’s ultimate. If things go bad, and your aim is good - you can save your team if you react fast enough, if you were not fast enough you might die yourself while performing this.Basically Reinhardt charging into ulting D.Va and pushing her off from the team, preferrably to the closest wall which allows you to stay alive if you put up your shield right after charge.Hog can hook D.Va’s ultimate and survive it if manage to hide behind something (you need to be hidden from D.Va’s ultimates exact visual centre and you won’t get damaged) or simply activate healing skill for reduced 50% damage which makes you getting not more than 500 dmg.
1.8.It’s Raining Shields, Hallelujah!. Orisa + enemy Sombra. As we all know Sombra’s ultimate destroys all shields as well, but Orisa can launch her shield up to the sky - and it won’t deploy until it hits the ground. So if you, playing as Orisa, somehow feel that enemy Sombra is about to use her ultimate - you can simply launch your shield in the sky. Most of the times it wont land accurately, but even a bad position shield is better than no shields at all.It can take up to three-four seconds for a shield to land.
(This can also work with Ana’s biotic grenade skill, but it’s way more harder to use.Plus Hanzo’s sonic arrow was released without charging straight into the air it can come back and hit the ground after Sombra’s ultimate, not much effect but it’s possible.Same applies to Widowmaker’s poison mine, I guess).
1.9.Frost Crush. Mei + Reinhardt. Simply Mei providing a wall for a friendly Reinhardt, so that he can crash into it earlier.
2.0.Safe Zone. Orisa + Reinhardt. Orisa puts a shield before her, and Reinhardt turns backwards and fills it up to make a “complete” shield. Can be used to cover ally target like Bastion, whos vulnerable point in turret mode is on his back.Mei also can use her wall frequently to cover him if someone approaches friendly Bastion from behind.Do not put wall under Bastions feet - it will put him above shields and make him a perfect target.
2.1.Ascension. Mei + Enemy Bastion. Mei can put ice wall under enemy Bastions feet, which will leave him as a perfect target for a few seconds.Requires communicating with allies as it won’t last long and he needs to be focused straight away.
Tips for serious players:
1.1.In special circumstances Ana can consider using her ultimate on saving friendly support.Like, boosting Mercy, which will fill her HP bar up and give reduced damage for 50%.Although using it this way must really be a need, and let them know of this possibility beforehand - because some Mercy can take out their gun and start shooting “to make some use of a wasted nano-boost” instead of using -50% damage reducement and healing safely, maybe with ultimate for AoE heal.
1.2.As a Junkrat, your trap can cover your back effectively, sealing the road in small pathways, so that you can focus on landing good bombs.
1.3.As a Torbjorn you must understand that your turret is, of course, a great helper, but it is just a helper.Your weapon is your main force, and sometimes you don’t have time to build a turret, or it is not possible under enemy damage - then don’t upgrade it, just build level 1 turret on cooldown and continue shooting.
1.4.As a Mei you must understand that while trying to freeze a enemy you most often will receive lots of damage, if it’s a large team fight, so consider using ice spikes more often in large scale battles and trying to cut one or two enemies off with a ice wall from the rest of their team.
1.5.As a Winston you must know that punching armored enemy is more effective than continously zapping it.Because armor reduces a little damage from every hit, and Winstons Tesla Cannon does a lot of small hits as we know. So, if enemy has armor - you punch it as often as you can, if it’s safe to do so.
1.6.Soldier’s grenade can lift you up if used with jumping, and can allow you to reach some interesting places, before unaccesible.
Same effect can be used by ulting Bastion.
1.7.Widowmaker’s poison mine can be used same as Junkrat’s trap - to cover your back. Also don’t forget Widowmaker’s trap and Junkrat’s land mine can be placed anywhere - up, or from the sides.Because most place them on the ground which is pretty obvious.
1.8.D.Va can eat all projectiles with her Matrix Shield skill. So, all skill projectiles must be thrown into the ground in case there’s a mecha D.Va around.Applies to Mei’s snowstorm, Zarya’s graviton, Hanzo’s Dragon Arrow, Tracer’s Bomb, probably on Orisa’s shield before it gets deployed, (need to test it on Hammonds ultimate while it’s deploying for a brief moment).
1.9.Genji can deflect Junkrat’s deathborne grenades, while they are still in air, and D.Va can eat them while they are still in air.
2.0.Mei and Zarya can launch their ultimates into the air, which sometimes can be pretty effective - enemies might rush in after ultimate sounds and it can fall right on them. But high accuracy and experience required for this trick.
2.1.Junkrat ultimate produces most of it’s noise when it moves. So, right after ulting you can stop near yourself, wait a little and when scared enemies regroup or peek out if the threat is gone - strike. Also you can use sprays with rip-tire, for a cool POTG.
2.2.As a Reinhardt most often it is a bad idea to charge straight into enemies unless you have your team prepared to support you.If not - you are dead, most likely.Try to use horizontal charges instead of vertical ones.
2.3.Winston’s ultimate doesn’t do a lot of damage, but if you use it to disrupt enemy ultimates it will be a lot better for your team that way - like pushing Soldier 76 on ultimate out, or Reaper, or McCree, list continues. Also can be used to eliminate squishy supports, and to cause elemental kills (pushing enemies down into abyss).
2.4.When you are the last man standing, as a Winston, on objective and it’s overtime - activating your ultimate will allow you to survive for longer, that’s for sure, and let your team mates to return in time. But, if enemy team is good, your 1000 HP from ultimate will dissapear in seconds. That’s why you should apply this tactic, when it’s possible to do so, works best on defending payload.Simply jump up into the sky - land, and repeat.Payload will move a little bit, and you can often survive for a long time when you would die in moments instead. Also, enemies must look up which can help your allies engage - because some enemies, if not all, could be looking up for a second and miss the moment your team returns.
2.5.Human reaction time minimal is approximately 0.1 seconds, so thinking even for a half of second - which will be your next action is too much, that’s why try to use your experience and act without thinking, when it’s possible - this will make it harder for enemies to react.
2.6.As a healer hero don’t forget about second healer, if present. Some of them are vulnerable to back fire, like Zenyatta, who has no means of protection other than wise positioning and 150 HP recovery after 3 seconds.
2.7.As a healer try to heal those who are under fire currently, not those who are low unless they’re extremely low or need it for safer ultimate. Those who are low but are out of combat can look for health pack or stay safe, while fighting ones require your assist more. Also, keep in mind that dark blue shield (energetical armor) recovers by itself after 3 seconds of peace state (no damage taken), that’s why you might not want to heal up Zarya or other guys who has energetical shield to the limit when there’s other guys in combat and low HP.Approximate numbers of energetical shield are: 150 HP for Zenyatta, 200 Zarya, 100 Symmetra.
2.8.As a Lucio if you continuously press Space (or other jump button, if set differently) you will move faster than holding Space for a wall slide.
2.9.Always be extremely careful after Widow activated her ultimate, some people tend to forget about it since it does no direct harm, in my opinion it is one of the most dangerous ultimates.
3.0.As a Mercy try to move from one ally to another, if there is no safe spots left and you get hit everywhere. This might help you last longer if enemies fail to react in time.
3.1.As a Mercy you can use allies in high positions to help you move to someone who is from your current position hidden by an object.Ideal would be Pharra ally, moving to which will let you see everyone out of buildings from above.
3.2.If you see friendly Reinhardt charging full HP enemy Bastion - poke him with something, as Reinhardt doesn’t kill full HP Bastion only with charge.
3.3.Ana can use the fact from Tip 3.2. to boost almost dead Bastion which will heal him up as well, after recent nano-boost buff.Take care though, time window is short.
3.4.Zarya can cover her ally from ultimates, like D.Va’s explosion or McCree High Noon with her own shield, just need to hide that person behind you.
3.5.Hanzo new skill, flurry of arrows shouldn’t be used in the first second with non stop shooting.Better aim and shoot, aim and shoot instead of aiming and shooting simultaneously. Also if your arrow flurry is on cooldown, you can finish low hp enemies by releasing non-charged arrows which is more quick, but keep in mind they fly slower and fly different.
3.6.When you use ultimate on Pharra first aim for targets which can escape quickly, if enemies aren’t grouped up and there’s not a lot of enemies for ultimate.Such as Moira, Mercy (with her ultimates flight if she has good reaction she can escape easily by activating ultimate or even by simple ally jump), Hanzo/Genji etc.
3.7.As a Reinhardt on most maps (except perhaps Blizzard’s World) you can safely launch fire strike (by default E key) to enemies spawn base exit doors, most usually they are grouped up and if you get damage boosted by friendly Mercy you could get up to ~45% of your ultimate ready with a single strike.Usually from most available positions you must launch fire strike around one second before the match starts.(Advise: Stay out of enemies sight while you wait for it, although most won’t expect (3000 and lower ranking) it coming, as of now, some people might back off and you will lose possible extra percents for your ultimate.
3.8.When leaving your spawn bases exit doors let the toughest allies leave first - as not only Reinhardt’s fire strike can come but also everything else, like traps, rockets-grenades and stuff. If you are a healer or have protective abilities, and have squishy allies, like Zenyatta and similar guys without survival abilities, who are leaving at the same time with your toughest guys (which happens most of the time actually) heal them so in case they get hit you don’t spend time reacting to it.Why it’s important: so that your teams first attempt doesn’t gets postponed until all of you are grouped up, since enemies could have less time to think about their strategy if you rush it straight away, and if not - they will get familiar with your picks and possible threats which will lead to them getting optimal positions for combat.
3.9.If you are a healer, heal ulting Roadhog if it’s possible - as he is vulnerable when doing it, with no heal available.
4.0.As a Reinhardt, if you need to leave dangerous place quickly, like Hanzo’s ultimate, and you’re under heavy fire, you could try jumping and activating shield constantly - this will speed you up and offer some shield protection for your team at the same time.
4.1.If you are in a bad situation when your team is dead, you are surrounded, and are sure that you will die - try to look for a way to suicide. It will give less % for the enemy. But be sure that there are no chances, before doing it.
4.2.If there are your ally ultimates incoming and enemy Reinhardt is shielding his team try to disable him in some way - like throwing McCree flashbang above him, or throwing Junkrat’s land mine above him so that it lands behind his shield and launch him - possibilities are numerous, look for it!
4.3.Reviving with Mercy is easy sometimes, as enemies often stop looking at dead body after a few seconds so you can walk behind them and revive your guy.Take care though, some of them might be waiting specially for you, consider enabling Hold to Fly option, and in case you notice someone is waiting for you abort revival operation.
4.4.When two healers working, and one healer is low heal the second healer instead of the other guy.
4.5.If you are a Lucio and want to use your ultimate - don’t do it inside an enemy Winston’s shield - your allies outside it won’t receive your ultimates shield.
