This is not a post asking for changes, it is completely fine as it is.
Here are some tips for avoiding players and how to make the most out of the feature, and never rematch with a player you don’t want to again.
Tip 1: Avoiding stacking amongst your group
If you are playing in a group and you come across a teammate you don’t want to match with again, you can balance out the avoidance with other group members. If a person is being toxic but you’ve already avoided 3 recent players, you can ask a group member to avoid them as well. As long as you are matched with your group member, you cannot be on a team with anyone they have avoided. Stacking the same person over multiple group members is a waste of an avoid. This means if you have a five man group, you can avoid up to 15 players from being on your team.
Tip 2: Avoiding a group of players with one avoid
Like the previous tip, you can use the group system to your advantage to avoid multiple people. If a group of teammates are being toxic and you want to avoid them, only avoid one person from the group. The chances of the members splitting apart and continuing to play are very minimal so you can avoid up to 5 people at once with this method (if you are solo queuing)
Tip 3: Managing the Time
There are many more people playing Overwatch at any one time than you would think. Due to this, it is a waste to keep people avoided for more than a couple of hours. The chances of being put in a match with someone from 3 days ago or 12 hours ago are both extremely slim and so it is a waste of an avoid to keep someone avoided for very long. If you need to avoid a player, simply remove the oldest avoid from the list and replace it with the new player.
Tip 4: Only Avoid in Competitive
It is only really wise to avoid someone in competitive modes, whether that be standard competitive or an arcade one. Since those are the modes that actually matter if you lose, it is a waste of an avoid to use it on someone who keeps matching with you in quick play or mystery heroes.
Tip 5: Wait it out
If your avoid list is completely full and there are no other options, try waiting it out. Wait an average of 2 or 3 minutes or go mess around in the practice range if you have to, it’s what we did back in the day.
Best Wishes for a less toxic competitive experience!
