Tryhards in Quickplay

I’m not going to question how some of you enjoy spending your time with this game, I haven’t done so when many complained about the ridiculous “Its just Quick Play” attitude and I certainly won’t do now. However, lately I have been running into a decent amount of groups of players who team up in Quick Play (5-6 men) and are playing full meta and are playing exactly the way you would play in ranked when you are giving everything to win and anything else matters less. You would think this might be a coincidence, it happens to everybody once in a while, maybe twice, but not every day now. And there are always different people, oh and of course they are all above 4k so they are not wannabes.

I haven’t recalled a single match where our group of random people were not crushed in front of their spawn on capture point maps or couldn’t get a single kill. I don’t blame them, the opponents have a full stack of coordinated high level players, and we have a bunch of random players of various skill levels put together by the matchmaker, because someone has to be the unfortunate ones to que against these fellas.

So where is the problem? First off I like to say that I consider the attitude of these players not ethical. Its not completely wrong, they have the right to play where ever they want, but there is a specific place where they can put their skills and coordination to the test, and there is no benefit for them to play against uncoordinated randoms, they will win most likely and learn nothing out of it. You can make the argument that maybe they are practicing before going ranked to which I have to say: Practice what, 4k players practicing the meta in QP? Probably not.

The result or rather the entire match is a frustrating experience where the only thing you can try to enjoy is walking forward towards the objective, before you get outnumbered again. It sounds dramatic, and believe me it is, and I’ve been getting a lot of these lately and frankly not enough “nice matches”.

Some people tryhard in qp and comp, some people dont try hard in qp and comp. People are different.

They might be warming up. Also they might not feel like playing ranked.

This is just one of the problems with this game. it is broke beyond repair and will only get worse. Just look how the game evolved in the last 2 years…It is sadly just not fun anymore…

Human behaviour = “game is broken”. Cool story bro, so the game should alter how human minds work? Or maybe blizz should hire guards to stand behind individual players and beat the sh*t out of them if they play the game different than you think it should be played.

Well you kinda dumped yourself here, you’re saying you want to win, but you don’t play competetive, they want to win, but they don’t play competetive. Huh, it be fitting to call you a hypocrite

This might be a mind blowing concept but some people play the game seriously all the time, it’s like saying that a starcraft pro should go easy on randoms just 'cuz

So you complain about people playing the game the way its meant to be played?.. I find the “its just qp” mentallity more annoying…

Yes I play to win ALL the time… Just hate losing, and a bad team comp is really frustrating to me…

IS this just me or is this the first game people actually want to loose???
You for get 1 thing bec COMP is still seriously broken and ridiculous nothing being done to it, people more Qp and want to win. Personaly i play every game that i play 2 win. And this is the first game i play in 20 years that people have it’s only Qp ir people say try hard. There are more people that don’t play comp atm and do QP so give them the credit to win the game.

And I cant stand the “its just a game mentality” so I play exclusively competitive and never touch QP.

I think the worst people are the ones who tryhard yet don’t have the balls to go competitive basically wanting the best of both worlds.

i think people who just play what ever they feel like are far worse then tryhards…

so many teams that just ignore basic needs in any comp and go solo yolo feeding

People can try hard if they want to. They probably just want to win, so why are you complaining about it? I mean, they probably already played 10 comp games.
Sometimes I’m actually pretty good with Tracer, tho most of the time i suck. And about getting swarmed when you’re “walking towards the objective” just be attentive.

Maybe their attitudes aren’t the best, but judging them for it won’t help. Idc if i win or lose, but i do care if i try my best and attempt to get better at OW. Just because people play uber well dosen’t give you much of a reason to complain. If it tilts or really bothers you, listen to some relaxing music (Piano i would recommend) or just stop playing for a while and do something else that would get your mind off it. It’s that simple. :man_shrugging:

The problem is that your “problem” is not a real one.
A problem would be if a full team of GMs play against a full team of plats and still it would be an internal MMR problem.

I can honestly say that when i played against stacks with GMs there were also multiple masters on my team or decayed accounts so the MMR is not to blame.

Complaining about facing stacks of different skill that play “meta” seems way off since the game in QP and Comp is literally the same : the only thing that changes is that MMR is not taken as a first priority and there are no SR loss/gain.

Sorry that reality came in so hard on you on QP but thats how the game works and i dont think its wrong. I was also queued with 3 masters and other 2 plats against a GM and mostly silver/gold players and we ultradestroyed them. Sometimes wind helps you out and sometimes it will blow you away

This “issue” is where solo queue would be a good option and yes I don’t care if I must wait longer for a match.

I find the pre-made groups are bad from both aspects, if you fight against them they tend to be coordinated, using mics which is a big advantage vs randoms but then when they are on your team, I find even when they have 2 healers you’re never healed, you’re just ignored and the team is only their group, no one else.

So much text, so little sense.

I’m still not entirely understanding the use of “tryhard” as a derogatory term. Is trying hard bad? Should one not be trying his/her hardest to win a game?

I for one am not ashamed of trying hard. Frankly, every time I get flak for it I’m immediately reminded of this:

Another tryhard here. I main tanks and such i want good team comp. Hard to play rain with 4dpses.

One word of advice to all who finds bad team comp frustrating and tilting (as it is for me): I just pick some dps / ana or zeni and strictly play to improve my mechanical skill. I know we will probably lose but it takes a huge toll of my tilting

I love it when people whine and cry about enemy trying hard when they get stomped hard :joy:

And the big mistake that game devs make, is trying to squeeze these both type of people into same game.

I play QP with the intention of practicing/warming up for comp, and I cannot stand people in QP who just derp around.

As currently healer/tank main I usually start with comp. After placement I keep losing and I got tired of just looking on my falling SR, so I move to qp where I tend to lose less often. That means its more fun. I dont mind losing a game, but I cant recall a season when I would end up with higher SR than I got after placements. I try hard in both - comp and qp. And Im really happy when I find other players who do their best in qp as well.
