Unfair 7 year old account closure

I’m writing this on behalf of someone else just to get the community and hopefully someone @ Blizzard Support’s opinion because I am as baffled as the account user and interested to see what you guys say!

Basically, my friends account got (seemingly permanently) closed today for no reason. They recently moved country and play on a PC café (which to their knowledge is safe to use and log in on, as their sister and partner use the same PC’s in the same café and their accounts are untouched) so we suspect that may be the reason however with little to no information explaining the reasoning behind the closure, I know them to be a very casual player, they are not toxic and the most they type in chat is “gg” and they never use VC. They dont intentionally feed, they definitely do not cheat (they’re hardstuck silver dps - their words) and they don’t play competitive as it isnt fun for them & dont enjoy it.

This is my bestfriend of 10 years, and I’ve gamed with them for that length of time daily since we were first friends, I know they wouldn’t severely violate the Code of Conduct to the point of recieving a account closure.

They have easily well over 20,000 total hours on this game since it came out in 2016, and have spent a decent amount of money since the release of OW2.

To me this is a mistake, and wondered if it has happened to anyone else and what the outcome of the appeal was if you did so!

TIA,
Fury x

TL;DR : My friends acc got closed for no reason, they arent toxic and didnt violate the COC, and we want to know if anyone has had a similar experience and what the result was.

Did they change their country on the account?

If an account is logged in on in a country that isn’t marked on the account, it might get banned.
The reason might have to do with account selling. To prevent that an account can get banned for accessing it in a “wrong” country.

Ty for the response!!! I will forward this over to them because I suspect that may be the issue! Will Blizzard overturn the closure if that is the case and its a mistake on their end? I dont think they knew they had to change their account location from EU :frowning:

Thanks again c:

If you login in a different country you risk the account being closed.

I don’t know if they’ll overturn it but it’s worth a try.
Your friend might have to prove their ownership of the account though, so i recomment finding receipts for past purchases and other info they have about the account.
I don’t know what kind of information blizzard might require for that, but it’s better to prepare.

I’m having the same issue. Posted multiple times on reddit and here, no luck. Two accounts banned within 48 hours, one of them I used for like 5 games a few months ago and the other one being from 2017.

If you had a vpn on during your playing, then the above might also apply to you, but i don’t have any concrete answers.

There are plenty of reasons that might cause a ban, the highest on that list being any third party applications running during the game that might affect mouse movement or access any game files.
Or even try.
I know that a gta modding application caused a ban because it was running at the same time as overwatch and attempted to access the game files even if it couldn’t.

I hope so too, but ultimately it’s only going to happen if someone actually looks into this case.
