Unfair Competitive Suspension Due to Game Crash

Hello Blizzard Support and Overwatch Community,

I recently received an 8-hour suspension in Competitive Play, but I want to clarify that I did not leave the match intentionally. My Overwatch 2 client unexpectedly crashed, forcing me back to the desktop. When I restarted the game immediately and attempted to rejoin the match, I found that I had already been suspended. This was not my fault, and I believe that suspensions due to crashes should be reviewed.

I was actively playing a competitive match when my game suddenly crashed without warning. I tried to restart the game immediately to rejoin the match, but upon logging back in, I was met with an 8-hour suspension notice. The system incorrectly treated this as an intentional abandonment, even though it was due to a technical issue beyond my control.

I completely understand that leaving a Competitive match negatively impacts other players. However, I strongly believe that there should be a system to differentiate between intentional leavers and technical crashes. Overwatch 2 should recognize crash-related disconnections and allow players to rejoin the match within a short window before issuing a penalty.

This one-time crash should not result in an 8-hour suspension, especially for players who do not have a history of leaving games.

I would like Blizzard Support to review my case and consider lifting my suspension, as this was a technical failure and not an intentional abandonment. Additionally, I believe that Blizzard should implement a better system that recognizes crash-related disconnections and allows players to rejoin before punishing them with a lengthy suspension.

Please let me know if there’s any way to resolve this. Thank you

Hm, it seems like a really bad idea to make the suspension already active for the specific game that the “offender” actually tries to -RE-join, as that means Blizzard is actively hurting all the other players on his team, since there is no backfill in competitive mode.
Strange how stupid and short-sighted Blizzard’s coding decisions seem at times.

Speaking of, it also seems very doubtful to apply an SR penalty in the particular case that a leaver actually WINS the competitive game after rejoining, considering it might well not have been on purpose that he left. And it (very slightly) messes up the whole game’s SR database of course.

There is already a blue post about this. If we leave games because the client crashes that on us we shouldn’t be playing when the client is unstable or their servers are being ddosed.
