So I was having a talk with a friend about the supports and I brought up the fact that Moria’s healing p/second (in my opinion) wasn’t enough to be classed as a Main Healer. While I am probably wrong, a thought crossed my mind.
Who are main healers? And what makes a healer a main one.
So, can someone answer my curiousity?
(And yes, btw, I know I am/was probably wrong, just my opinion because to me, her primary fire doesn’t head as much. Or it’s just I haven’t notice it healing as much as others. Or I’m just unobservent. But that ain’t important to the thread as of right now)
Moria can often out heal Mercy on many occasions as she can heal multiple targets without having to use ultimate. Sure she has a resource to deal with, but with the spraying, healing orb and the ult, that can be a lot of burst heals.
Ana is probably another main healer, especially since the Nano Boost was buffed to heal on effect. Though it requires skill to be a main with Ana, if you miss a lot of shots/nades then it might only feel you are doing side healing in comparison to a Mercy or Moira player.
Mercy is a main healer for obvious reasons. The remaining ones Lúcio, Brigette or Zen are pretty limited in what they can do, i.e. need to be in range, deal damage or only a single target heal at one time etc, so more like side healers but bring other utility.
Mind you, Moira has the highest healing output in the entire game. That holds true from gold right to GM. Only in bronze and silver are there Moiras that don’t really use their healing, but that’s not the character’s fault.^^
One thing I like about Overwatch is how healbots are less important than utility supports. Lucio and Zen have been preferred competitive/tournament supports for years because of their utility, meanwhile Mercy only became a must pick because of the rez(another utility). Moira having the biggest healing output means exactly nothing when her damage is so unreliable, her utility is zero and she cant get off the ground.
Off Healers ( Currently ) Zenyatta, Lucio, Brigitte and Mercy.
Mercy’s base healing ( 50hp/s ) on a single target is not enough to make her a viable main healer, her ult isn’t in a good state and doesn’t offer enough in most situations. Typically mercy is picked for weird comps ( Bunker ) or to pocket a good dps like Ashe or McCree.
Moira heals the most,then Ana.Rest are just off healers.No,mercy is not main healer.Healing a target and seeing your team mate drop dead because healing output is beyond crap n slow…With Moira you can put orb out and heal,Ana use grenade and heal with mercy you just hope person can live with your crap healing beam
Moira has the highest healing in the game, anyone who thinks she’s not a main healer has not played the game. Moira can heal 155/s on a single target, and up to 850/s across the entire team… no one else is even vaguely close to this. Ana boasts a measly 113/s on a single target, with no multi-heal potential (unless you count the splash from her bionade, which only heals 100.)
The term “main healer” is a bit vague. Generally speaking Moira and Brig are healers; Ana, Baptise, Lúcio and Mercy are hybrid healer-supports, and Zen and Sombra are full supports. A healer’s value is their healing output, whereas a support’s value is some extra ability they bring to their team. No one runs Zen for his healing, they run him because of discord orb and ult. No one runs Brig for her knockback, they run her because of how well she sustains during a fight.
Main healers: Ana, Moira (but moira is a throw pick anyway) Support: Lucio, Zen, Brig Mercy is a hybrid, the best solo healer but that doesn’t make her main healer. She can be used as main healer with zen in dive comp and sometimes as a supp (or off supp/heal whatever) in an early game attack mercy ana comp.
“Being a pocket healer does not make her off healer” Yes it does. A main Healer’s job is to heal everyone and keep everyone alive. Mercy’s 50Hp/s heal is far too low to sustain anyone from any sort of sustained damage.
Her Ult has no defensive capabilities and lacks in offensive capabilities. Any kind of situation where enemies are using ults or hard pushing cannot be stopped with Valkyrie at all. Her only usefulness comes from Res but that’s still not enough to justify her as pick. At my rank, playing mercy would be considering throwing, she’s in a terrible state atm.
Mercy’s healing is lower as it’s more consistent than other healers.
Unlike many of the other healers, You can’t really miss her beam and it goes through enemy barriers.
These qualities means the healing output has to be lower, or it would be to strong.
Although I’m not sure it was necessary to reduce it all the way down to 50/s.
With that said. Yes at higher ranks people start to be good enough to make the other healers more consistent, in which case they generally outclass her.
Except for a few scenarios when you want to hard pocket a single target, like Pharah or Ashe.
No, it really doesn’t make her an off-healer. Look at all of the off healers, what do they have? Defensive ults, less healing, more utility.
Mercy has more healing, no defensive ult and middling at best utility with the flying, however she can group heal or damage boost, allowing for a good push, it’s an offence ult.
A lot of the healers can’t heal through focus fire, doesn’t mean anything whatsoever.
Let’s just classify every single hero by themselves?
This way people can’t be confused weather or not some heroes belong in an other group, only conflict is what name is used to identify them.
