Log out and log back in. If the icon is set for forums it’ll change

You’re not stupid. It’s bugged and has been for a while now. Logging out and back in doesn’t help either. I don’t think Blizzard will fix it.

Not all icons are active on forums (for some reason). So if you have a very new one, it’s unlikely to work here.
