Why is it so hard to ban hackers?

at least 1 in 5 games i play around my 3.5k sr had a hacker in it and 9 out of 10 games has smurfs. i myself am a silver border 1 star and why is it so fk hard to find me a game with people of my sort. aka not low level smurfs and or hackers. i play in MASTERS sr so please stop matching me against GRANDMASTERS.

There is a ban wave going on since earlier today, but as of this moment cheating is still very very rampant. Just now after reading the good news about the banwave I felt like giving this game another try after countless of bitter disappointments due to rampant cheating. So I decided to start a match of arcade deathmatch after months of no overwatch and I immediately run into two softlock aimbotters and quit the game again in disgust.
Whatever they’re doing, it’s still not good enough.

Share the code. Lets see the soft locking?

8XA5P8

Soldier 76
Caught many instances, the most convincing on is at 00:03:13
Aim tracks Winston too closely as he changes movement from running right (towards moira) to the left suddenly. You can also see a sudden shock or shift in his aim, as if something takes it over for a short moment, obviously this is when he toggles the softlock aimbot.

Doomfist
Also many instances of aimlocking, but since doomfist is more of a melee type character it’s more difficult to notice.
Most convincing instance is at 00:05:09 as aim moves to the left at the exact same moment as the soldier 76 is changing stance from stationary to running to the left. No human aims like that no matter how good you get, you can’t keep your aim on target when there’s sudden directional changes in enemy movement unless you’re using an aimbot.

The last cheaters I caught and reported some months ago showed the exact same patterns in their aim. They toggle it on and off and try to hide it by not overdoing it. If you pay close attention you’ll notice instances of inhuman reaction times with too high tracking accuracy.

Soldier. 100% not cheating. I could of tracked that Winston with my feet… The Winston was basically stationary.

Doom. No cheaty either. Just reasonable on the hero.

I can see why you might be sus, you playing Widow and getting rolled. It is annoying… But i think it was just a skill gap thing. Nothing else.

Why? It’s simple. Actual long term bans would require

  1. not selling multiple accounts to known cheaters
  2. hardware/ID bans

Both of which will result in less sales for Blizzard, and sales come first in this business. The report system is as good as it’s going to get I feel.

Things they could do with more ease if the game was F2P.

Whatever, man. To the untrained eye it looks legit, but those few of us who have done extensive research on cheats know very well how advanced aimbots have become nowadays and how exactly they are used by cheaters who try to stay undetected.

Most players are completely incapable of spotting a cheater unless it’s one of those obvious cheaters aka “rage cheater”, but they are a minority as they get banned pretty fast due to mass reporting and easy detection.
The vast majority of cheaters however are the ones that hide it aka “closet cheaters”. They don’t go around hardlocking as that would get them spotted, mass reported and banned in no time.

Tbh I was pretty sure that I would get a reaction like this, but at least I provided proof. It’s not my problem that most players are unable to spot inconspicuous cheating.

Think what you need to think to get you through your games.

You got stomped by a couple of better players in a mode where there is limited match making.

I watched the Soldier for the whole game, his aim was pretty standard for someone in plat/diamond. Probably had a bout 30is% accuracy.

Doom was just a Doom.

A few times you died because you didn’t quick scope… Does that mean you are a bad player? no. They just were better than you.

they don’t ban hackers they only perma ban people who stand up to them.

No,they ban toxic players who falsely accuse people.

Cheaters get banned when they have investigated, and they tend to keep it quiet so they don’t give cheaters any warning. Hence when you see news about ban waves.

They also take legal action against cheat creators. As has happened in the last day or to. As the best way to stop it, is to make selling cheats a unprofitable business.

Those bloody cheaters ruining the game for us. :frowning:

its hard to ban hackers, becouse no game developer has cheat in mind when they are developing a game. Anti-cheat are more or less an afterthought.

thats why ow has hack that can show you every opponents pov. lol.

Your account level has nothing to do with your matchmaking.

Also, I don’t think you understand that plenty of people is stuck at around 2 ranks lower than where they should be due to other bad players sacking their games. It’s normal to run into more skilled players at a given rank and feel like there are plenty of smurfs around when they are just stuck at lower ranks.
Technically speaking I should be at around Plat but I’m sitting at silver because MM is roulette and playing a PUG usually ends in a way lower ranking than the one you should actually have.

Hackers are also not that common as you claim them to be. Honestly, I can’t remember when last time Comp there was a hacker.

its easy to ban hackers, but it requires two things

  1. a developer who actively wants to prevent hackers accessing the game, and restrict hackers re-accessing the game after they are caught

  2. a community who are awake to the problem, can identify it, and will report it en-masse if even a suspicious sniff of foul play is detected

Overwatch has neither of these things… it has a developer who just plain doesn’t care, because it knows no matter how many times it microwaves horse crap and serves it to you this community will eat it up

and the community would rather call you bad at the game and insult/abuse you for even daring to suggest that cheating is even possible in a blizzard game, than use their brains

think of a game like rust for example, the developer is determined to stamp out cheaters to the point they will prevent your entire computer at hardware level from accessing their game

and if the community of any given server so much as gets a minor whiff of foul play reports the ever living crap out of that player, and a couple hours later the dev’s or admins check it in person

Good job OW has both these things and they ban hackers often then.

People get hardware ID banned from OW too. Just because they don’t sing about it, doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen.

Just play Rust instead then. Sounds like it is really good for you.

HA! nope…

again, nope…

Well, they banned a few thousand accounts the other week. Most of which were hardware ID bans.

They also sent notices of legal action to at least 2 cheat creators (only ones I have seen being mentioned, most likely a lot more), including an impressive one that was aimed at the console market. So they have announced they are no longer going to be developing that product.

a few thousand accounts in a sea of millions is a p1ss in the wind

and they do it in waves every couple of years which makes it even less

facepunch and EAC hardware ban hundreds of accounts daily, 24/7 364…

ohh but i forgot that blizzard is an indie dev studio with 4 employee’s and not a massive multi billion dollar international game developer… my bad

Yeah. It is amazing when you look at the number how few people are actually cheating.

This is the 5th or 6th wave this year, that they’ve mentioned, but they tend to only talk about it after the event as to not tip people off (this is why they do it in waves). But individuals will also be constantly getting banned as the systems pick things up.

Team 4 (the OW dev team) had gone from around 70 to about 230 employees in recent times.
