I just started playing the game and it is putting me in the low level players team but the ones in enemy teams are 200-300 level people .i am playing quick play mode in between .
Account level is not a factor the match maker looks at,
Just as account level is not an indicator of skill.
But if you keep finding you are matched with bad players… then there could be a reason for that…
You have to remember theres probably way fewer people playing these days. Most come on do arcade for loot boxes (for the event) then log off again…
Thats the majority of the people i kno whove been on ow from the beginning
This is true. And does mean that the match maker in some ranks has to look a little further to find a player (hence why you see some T500 tanks randomly appearing in Masters games.
Player base is still a lot bigger than people seem to realise. Although steadily decreasing (as you would expect for a 5 year old game that has never had major additions).
I think it would be healthy for some of the players if Blizzard game out and explained a little how somethings, like the match maker actually work (without giving away their trade secrets). I often get the feeling a lot of people think something is “broken” when it is more that they just don’t understand it.
What I noticed you have to try to play just so you are at low end of performance in your team , but still know how to make right input at right moment.
If you will try to carry , be ready to climb very very slow, because game will try to balance you out with bad players.
As soon as I started to do it I got good players(smurfs) who could carry me and I could actually step up my game too , because it was not as easy to outperform them anyway.
If the game is “balancing you out with bad players” you have the same/similar MMR to them…
Which can only mean one thing sadly.
As others have said, account level doesn’t always equal skill. Yes their game sense and map knowledge should be a little better, but when it comes to their aim skills or spatial awareness/ positioning, if you’ve been placed in a team with them, it should be similar.
The system is not perfect by any means and the player base is significantly smaller than 4 years ago, so sometimes these things happen.
sure I have climbed like 800 SR since I made the post but you can believe what you want.
That would imply you are steadily improving.
The match maker won’t deliberately put you against bad players. It is not some adaptive AI that can figure all that jazz out. It would have to be able to work out who is about to pop off, or who is about to have an utter stinker of a game. And I am sure they’d say something if they’d managed to figure out how to predict the future.
So, if everyone’s MMR is similar in a lobby, and all your team mates suck in all your games… then…
The odd bad team, bad game happens. Pretty sure team mates you’ve had in the past have questioned on earth you were doing. It happens.
But if you are steadily gaining SR that would indicate you are learning and improving. And that is good news! I keep telling people that to climb you have to keep improving.
I can only go by my own experience, and I played like ass last season and dropped a fair bit to around 1950. So I got a friend to review some games, be really harsh with me (mostly I wasn’t adapting my play to the patch), worked on a few things and I’ve slowly climbed back to about 2800 on tank (my main role) and have barely lost since on other roles too. Gained about 100sr in 3 games on support last night which was quite pleasing.
I see that you want to defend this game system, I know + - rank I am supposed to be at and it is not really about be belonging at any ranks as they are all unbalanced bs, what infuriates me is white knights like you, who do not believe in system flaws and think that system is perfect and everyone belongs in their ranks, well I have played through all ranks from bronze to plat and let me tell you , there isn’t huge difference, on average sure, there is little difference, but not enough to make average gold player being able to carry himself from bronze to gold where he belongs, there are plenty of players who are stuck because of matchmaking and they play better then your average players you can find in any of bronze- plat games
Never said it was perfect. But you are thinking SR and MMR are the same.
Sadly they hide the important one. MMR is what dictates the skill bracket someone is actually in. (It is really easy to get boosted, or derank but that doesn’t change your MMR hence why you see occasionally a “gold” player in GM games, they found an exploit).
I’ve been helping (trying) someone, and watched a lot of bronze games. Mechanics don’t change much, but the speed at which people make decisions and react night and day and thats only a 2000sr difference.
Put me on Zarya in a silver game and I will control it. Tiny bit with my mechanics, but mostly because I will out think, track and predict what their tanks will do.
But me on Zarya against a masters player, and the roles will reverse. They will out think me and predict everything I am about to do.
That is the big difference.
And I was bronze myself. The big things I worked on… communication, map control and basic ult tracking. Have climbed a small chunk every season since. And if I want to climb more, I need to make bigger improvements.
i am not “white knighting” anything. I am just not going to blame something I can’t control. I just worry about what I can do.
From what I have seen, the MMR data is surprisingly accurate and pretty good at getting you to where you should be. Is it perfect… not a chance. Is it one of better systems out there, yeah it sure is.
you can’t control game as gold in silver game , there is to small skill difference, it highly depends on team you get and player skills can very from silver to master as it is all mix with smurfs , stucks and so on.
Even by that logic the match makers isn’t an issue then.
If skill is so similar, then the game is quite even.
Idk how you cam to that conclusion.
You’re theory is that skill isn’t that different.
So match maker could just out anyone in and be safe in the knowledge that the skill gap from lowest to highest won’t be that high.
That isn’t the case, and the MMR is far more detailed than we know. So it actually pulls together fairly well matched games in terms of your historical performance.
After that, if one team keeps making mistakes and the other pops off, you’ll get squash matches . Doesnt mean it wasn’t balanced at the start.
Just watch the very highest players on stream. You’ll see that sometimes, 1 sided games just happen.
Has there been any improvements? My experience has been that my team, or the opponents team gets rolled 20+ times before you can get on a game that is at least close.
For the most, I have more fun playing against AI as it’s more consistent. I hope there will be improvements based on the level of the hero you are running now that there is a progression system.
Does anyone have any info on this topic besides what I’ve already found on Bing?
No, zero improvement my friend. The matchmaker is still terrible.
No. It was somewhat okay the last few seasons. But this season its absolutely broken again. You get so many absolutely terrible people on your team its lose to being unplayable. And also about 75% of all games you will get are backfill
Probably because this season launched on steam. That could have something to do with the influx of trolls, leavers and other headaches.
