First off I like to consider myself a Zen main, but I have started playing alot of moira and I cannot see a reason to play anything else right now, unless someone else has already picked her.
The two heros are very similar in what they provide to the team only the play style is very different. Essentially debuffs with consistent damage and healing
The only weakness I come across with moira is usually against turrets (at range) and they can be avoided easily most of the time. I think the main difference with moira compared to Zen is that I cant be punished for being out of position or isolated and the usual flanking heros (tracer / Genji) get wrecked by the right click auto aim thing.
At this moment I feel whenever I pick moira I’m almost certain to be one of the highest healers / damage dealer with elims on the team. As it stands I just cannot see a reason to pick any other hero unless your team already has a moira.
Is not good at healing Pharah. Pharah is very common currently to counter among other things, Brigitte, Junkrat, soon Hammond. Widow+Pharah is pretty much meta right now.
Is not good if team is too spread out. I’ve noticed that at higher SR players move actively and try to flank a lot. In such a game mercy gets more mileage.
Moira is very good, but not in 100% of the situations.
Moria is, just like any other hero, a situational pick. She does work in many situations but not all.
Playing Rein or Orisa as a tank and Tracer as a DD, I mainly stay on the support role, mercy being my main and flexing with Moira and Brigitte.
Depending on the situation, I can’t play one specific hero all the time. During the game as a support role, I constantly switch between Mercy, Brig, and Moira:
If we need a huge healing output, I choose Mercy.
If we need to be more aggressive, I choose Moira.
If we need to hold a point better, I choose Brigitte.
I only know the bare basics of Zenyatta so I can’t tell you when it’s worth to switch off Moira.
Just remember that Moira isn’t the solution to everything and you should be ready to switch if necessary.
Moira has the highest average healing done in a game and a very solid average damage done in a game when compared to the other healers. In basic QP games she’s definitely a very strong support and maybe even the strongest of them all, but in strict competitive environment she’s on the bottom. Her healing being short ranged, low mobility outside shift and resource depletion are problematic there so she’s outshined by Mercy and Ana as main healers. You shouldn’t compare her to Zenyatta, Lucio or Baguette as they’re off-healers that should only be played if you already have a main healer.
You can’t solo heal with her, except maybe in koth maps because she can’t heal poke damages and she has to be in contact of the ennemy frontline to be effective.
Zen has at least a chance to save your team from GravDragon
That’s the main reason, but also Zen has much better damage output, and his heals have much longer range with no resource management
Mercy still has the most consistent healing with no resource management, in addition to Res which is still one of the if not the best ability in the game, Damage Boost is also very handy
Brig brings a lot of utilities and can brawl with flankers, and Rally absorbs good amount of damage for your team
Lucio sucks at the moment so no real reason to pick him
Moira can have very high healing but she has a resource before she’s stuck trying to DPS to regenerate it, and D. Va shuts her down exceptionally hard, as does barriers blocking heals, and she has trouble healing people above or below her
Coal is also pretty meh as an ult
Best thing about Moira is her mobility and survivability, but as a healer she’s much more situationalonal than Zen or Mercy
I think the point made is exactly the reasoning behind it she does get out done at the top level but as so few people are at that level it doesnt really matter to 90% of the playerbase.
In the lower tiers and QP where the majority of players are generally she seems to be almost unbeatable. Mainly due to the autoaim for the squishes but the range is really good for alot of the mid ranged aswell.
The mobility is also very good as even though she doesnt move fast the blink can dodge most ults with ease and the hit box is small.
i find myself playing moira more but i started of as a zen main (i main support so i play support most of the time but play moira when i can -> or my team needs to spread out and i can stay in the background trowing orbs and debuf with zen)
somebody stated she’s situational… in normal games she’s the best option. in higher ranks this changes (for ALL heroes) but non of the higher players bother posting on the forum… those players adapt to anything…
TL;DR
moira is the best healer in normal matches.
stating “in higher ranks…” is NOT a viable answer because neither people posting here and the people saying this are high ranked…
stop watching twitch and get in the game if you want to discuss these things. otherwise just keep your twitch games for yourselves.
Having played it most of the day in QP i havent come across anything i cannot deal with. I have changed to zen quite a few timez to see if im any stronger but its like the previous post said its hard work for the same result and often its alot worst.
I have even tried the moira when we have had a mercy and another healer and i can easily out dps most in the damage 90% of the time.
So far there doesnt seem to be any drawback to picking moira in any lineup.
More accurately to 85% of the playerbase as anything is viable up to about master rank after which the meta becomes much more relevant.
Point is that if Moira seems unbeatable it’s just because the opponent lacks proper skills. Her aimlock and linear abilities put her skill floor low which gives her advantage at that level. Dodging ults with her shift is relatively easy but you still have to manage it so a lot of the time players don’t use it to it’s full potential either. Her hit box is massive though when compared to other 200hp heroes. You can’t compare these hitboxes to tanks and be reasonable.
In other words while she’s relatively easy to play consistently, you can outplay her quite easily if you just ahem git gud
This is still true. Lucio is an off healer and he shouldn’t be able to outheal main healers unless everyone takes damage and stays in Lucio’s circle which isn’t really common. Mostly off healers outheal main healers when the main healers aren’t working consistently.
Maybe I am just a good Lucio then, as I do it in every match… The only healer I dont outheal every time is Mercy and still I do it at least 66% of the time
Or maybe you play in an environment where people aren’t that consistent. If you want to understand supports in different ranks better you could take a look at this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Overwatch/comments/805t6p/every_supports_average_healing_damage_per_game/
My Idea of a situational pick is more like the fact that every hero doesn’t work every time.
Mercy might work 99% of the time but that 1% doesn’t work.
I personally can’t do that because I’m not capable (yet) to use her in any situation. There are situations where I can’t get through as mercy because the overall damage output is low or we can’t contest a point.
In that case, I choose another hero where I feel more comfortable using other supports who can take the role as DD or tank, too.
I’ve seen multiple games where one team has no Mercy on their team and they still were a challenging opponent.
Maybe I haven't mastered Mercy now but that should be the case for every player from Bronze to maybe Diamond, too.
If you notice you can’t play efficiently with a hero, switch to another hero that might be more suitable.
