Yeah they’ll probably return sooner or later pretty much every skin has returned with very few exceptions and even those exceptions are starting to come back…

It’s really just a question of being loud enough so that the developers take notice of the demand…

Given licencing and stuff. The agreement was probably for a very specific period.

If it ended up being a big financial win for all parties… Maybe it’ll return. But I wouldn’t be expecting it anytime soon.

You’re more likely to see a different musical collaboration before they return to that

It won’t return. It was a one-off collab event thing to promote the group here in the west.

The same thing with the OPM event and the LEGO event. They’ll never return unless they pay for a license to re-release said skins, which is highly unlikely to happen.

The KPOP skins will return when and if Blizzard and Microsoft decide to have them return - no matter how many forum members declare otherwise…

Someone’s not aware of image rights…

Microsoft and blizzard can ask, but they don’t have much say.

I wonder what cut Blizzard got from it. It was clearly a PR move, and it would have cost them to get the group on board. Thinking about it, I’d bet there isn’t a much of a financial incentive for blizzard to do it.

They won’t, though. It has to do with licensing rights, and for collab events, those licenses extends only to one event, and most of the time it’s just promotional aka to promote something in a different region or something new, like the Le Sserafim event, the cowboy bebop event and the OPM event.

Even if they don’t host an event, the skins are copyrighted material that they need a new license for in order to sell in their store, and they will also have to pay royalties to the brand owners.

No they don’t and that’s not how the licenses work - they will be for whatever duration Microsoft and Blizzard and Le Seraphim agreed upon which neither of us has knowledge of…

There’s no reason to assume it was for one time only as that would be a poor business decision and the skins have also been profitable along with the music video garnering millions of views* which is another reason they’re likely to return…

With this matter now fully clarified I won’t be discussing it further - have a good day…

Lol yes, that’s exactly how the licensing works for events like these.

This aged well. I love when people make such confident assertions that ultimately are incorrect.

It did because it’s still correct. Did you read my entire post or just decided to necro on a whim because you thought you were being clever?

I’ll quote myself just so that you can sit there and reflect a bit.

Now, while they have returned for an extremely limited time, it was still unlikely to happen given Blizzard’s track record.

The only logical reason for it, that i can think of, would be that they made too much money on the skins the first time around and that the amount was far more than they paid for the license, just like with the Porsche collab skins.

Every Single Collab cost money in licensing fees.

It may also be that they’ve paid for a multi-use license, but the bottom line is that they do have to pay to use any licensed products for commercial purposes. That’s just how it works.

BTW, it’s also written that these skins are “sometimes in the shop” so they are nothing special

…same goes for Porshe etc. skins - “sometimes in the shop” meaning it’s a question of time when they come up next.

exactly. the only limit is exclusively when both parties (so blizzard and the external collabs company, like shueisha, porche, le sserafim etc.) agree on the return of the skin.

They literally can’t sell them without having having bought a license for them. It would be illegal for Blizzard to sell them without licenses. So yes, they are special in the sense that they require Blizzard to pay each one of them a license fee in order to use them commercially.

Good to see the collaboration coming back for a second round…
