Iâve said so many things I canât even remember if I have said that or not so wonât even deny it
isnt because cause the level of the glucose jumping cause problems to the nerves? A very famous politician here in italy ('90s) had this problem while in exile in tunisia.
possibility for nerves slowly damaged what I also always thought but idk, probably like soul said related circulation and nerves being oxygen / nutrient deprevated little would be my guess
I can send wool socks as bandaid if that is of any help! I have too many and keep getting more every christmas
She left out the bit about being so jealous because my silky smooth legs look megalicious in them (my legs are very smooth actually) and last time she wore them she scared all the builders in the pub with her thick leg hair coming through them. I mean seriously. it looked like someone had trapped an orang utan in a net.
Diabetes main concerns for people who have it areâŚ
-
Vision.
-
Circulation.
-
Blood sugar control (Glucose)
-
Heart conditions.
-
Vision is the most well known. Depending on what type of Diabetes you have, be it Type 1 (Your body does not produce any insulin, the chemical naturally produced that controls blood sugars) or Type 2, where your body produces insulin, but not enough to deal with excessive glucose.
Both types left unmedicated can lead to a condition known as retinopathy, or toi be more precise, where the blood vessels in the retina burst under too much strain from glucose. Left untreated, retinopahty is the leading cause of blindness in Diabetics.
Diabetics usually get two eye exams a year, a diabetic retina scan where photographs and x rays are taken of your eyes so the doctor can check for any new damage.
Circulation, also known as vascular therapy and operations, is the circulation around the body. Diabetics will usually have some form of vascular problems at the extremities, usually the feet, as due to the laws of gravity blood is pumped less successfully from your feet as it is from your hands. Another issue for diabetic feet is neuropathy (I have it) where sensations of touch are severely reduced to the point of non existence. This is when the glucose that is not being dealt with properly by insulin damages the nerves and destroys them. Par tof a diabetic check up will be the medical examiner touching your feet at points with a very thin metal probe, and you tell the med whether or not you felt the touch.
Vascular also includes the pulse, the dr will test the pulse of the diabetic, usually on the ankle. Thankfully my pulse is very strong, and the dr is also looking for you to have at least some visible hair on your toes if you are a guy, as this indicates that the blood vessels still nourish the hair roots. With women Iâm led to believe the dr will be looking specifically at ankles and heels, and is looking for tiny cracks and hard spots, both will also have their nails checked to make sure the nails are still growing. In my case I am always losing toenails, even my big toe nail, I have one right now that is more or less ready to come off at any moment. They grow back quickly which my dr is pleased about and doesnât have an issue as long as there is no fungal disease.
Now this is my personal experience with vascular, and my toes.
When I lived in the States I worked for the hospital and Home Depot, and while working at the hospital I stood on a pallet nail and because if neuropathy, I didnât feel it. I walked all day with the nail in my foot through the sole of my shoe, and this included working at Home depor. When I got home I noticed blood on my sock so took it off and my wife checked my foot and saw a very large bleeding hole. She put her hand in the shoe and felt the nail, and pulled it out from the bottom. We then went straight to my dr and they put me in a plaster and walking boot. I was in this boot for 6 months. The wound would not heal, no matter how many times it was cleaned and a new plaster put on. I was getting a new plaster every week. It became clear that what was happening was the second toew on my left foot was a hammer toe, where the toeâs bones are angled like a hammer head, and any pressure on the sole pushes the bones in such a way that the bottom bone pushes on the muscle at the bottom of the toe. This is what was keeping the wound open.
Fast forward two years and I am back in Scotland, working for DCC cutting grass.
Legal requirements mean anyone using plant or equipmeant with a possibility of damage to feet must wear safety boots to UK legal standard. The council provided steel toe-capped boots.
I was now going to Ninewells Hospital 2 times a week to have my wound looked at and cleaned, it was very slowly healing.
Then about a month before my contract expired, on my break I took my boots off as my left foot was aching.
And I saw blood again. I took my socks off and the steel toe cap had been pressing the toes together and at last they had given up resisting. All were damaged, but one more than any other, the toe above my wound. I immediately went to the Diabetic clinic, they took one look at the toe and called a specialist.
She took one look and I was immediately admitted to Vascular care and put on antibiotic drip.
After two days the vascular surgeon came to check my toe as we had already had discussions about possible amputation if the infection had reached the bone, which was very serious. He took off the bandage around my toe, and the skin was barely hanging on. he then took a lance, and without any resistance whatsoever, the lance went right through the skin almost touching the bone. The doctor then said it was just as he thought, the toe was unable to be saved and would have to come off.
After a week recovery I was allowed to leave and start my twice weekly visits to the diabetic clinic where they would clean and defrib my amputation wound until it healed.
Within 3 weeks.
My original foot wound, that I was carrying for nearly 3 years.
Had healed.
I know have a large gap between the toes of my left for but my gait is the same as it was before, and the scra is visible but otherwise there is no sign apart from the obvious lack of a toe that I had any procedure, and the bottom of my foot is also cleared up.
Anyone interested can ask me on discord for photos.
Blood sugar control.
I am on 3 medications for my Blood sugar.
Lantus insulin, 60 units a day.
Diagulytide, once a week injection. This thing is brutal, and I canât inject myself because of past trauma due to drug abuse as a young man. If I try to inject myself I have panic attacks so I either have to go to the hospital or GP to get it done if my wife canât do it.
Metaformin and Empafligozin, a mixture that encourages the removal of blood sugar through urination.
So it basically means I widdle a lot.
Rovustation for cholesterol, and Lisinopril for blood pressure. This leads me to 4.
We also suffer from heightened risk of heart complications, and heart disease is a common killer of untreated diabetics and also a heightened risk of stroke. This is why itâs very important for diabetics to have good blood pressure, and mine has always been excellent so at least i have that going for me.
Now why did I wrote this very long post?
Look after yourselves. Please.
Donât do what i did.
Ah, like the sketch from âNot the 9 OâClock Newsâ with the gorillaâŚ
Interviewer - âYou must have been wild when you were caught?â
Gorilla - âWild?? I was bloody furious! Never felt such a [redacted] in all my lifeâ
Thank you for sharing all that. I canât imagine the horror of finding such wounds and having no clue and then it simply not healing and losing a toe. You must be constantly checking them in fear?
I had a scare recently due to my vision dropping but thankfully I am fine. I am high risk to develop it in the next 10 years from other health conditions so I have gone onto a keto diet anyway.
Injections sound horrible. Being on a myriad of tablets is one thing (me too) but weekly injections? Bleeergh. That must be such a figurative pain to sort out.
Nasty thing that diabetes. Most think you just get fat and have to not eat sugar⌠people need educating more
Morning
Thank you for that post by the way. I certainly didnât expect to learn this much from the wow forums but Iâm certainly glad i took the time to read.
Good coffee and sunday and morning
-24C, waiting car to heat and heading to drive 100km to another town. Even locks were frozen, couldnt get doors open without heating lock and use leverage on door frames
Re-arranged my room so I can sit at a desk with my laptop on my ergonomic chair - my back was going being in bed all the time! The pup is not impressed with change but her bed is where it always has been so itâs acceptable, she says.
-26C the extreme temperatures are causing disagreements with cars, neighbours car were not starting and sides of roads filled with cars signaling malfunction.

You can NEVER have enough extensions!!!
Seriously my floor looks like the floor of the space shuttle.
Its cold here too, -2. Iâm thinking about wearing long pants at work tonight. Probably still wear my shorts though and wear a hoodie.
