Its not so much a trend as it is tradition, atleast in mexico you call it a mordita and its tradition the special person goes to take a bite and people tr to shove your face in it. Supposed to be good luck to my knowledge.
It might be something else but this is what i thought it was initially, the wasting the cake is all her though.
