11.0.5 PTR feels horrible for retribution in PVE

While this is true for Paladin as a class in general.

It largely doesn’t apply to ret

As much as I would like to fold people in half like a warrior can, the fact remains that warriors don’t have the same level of group utility that a paladin does with heals, bubbles, freedom, sanctuary, lay on hands etc. There is a price to be paid for that when considering a class’s capabilities overall.

Again though, not saying paladins should suck and deal no damage. But don’t expect them to ever be on the level of a warrior in terms of raw, on-demand output. It’s just not in their core design. Any time ret gets near that level of damage, the community notices and they swiftly eat a nerf given all the other stuff they bring to the table.

While it’s true that Retribution Paladins bring utility that doesn’t mean they should be disqualified from competing with other DPS classes in terms of damage. Retribution Paladins are primarily a DPS class, and their damage should reflect that. If utility were a reason to limit damage, other hybrid classes like Shamans, Druids and Monks would face the same issue, yet they remain competitive in damage while retaining their utility.

Moreover, Warriors also have significant group utilities like Rallying Cry, Battle Shout, Intervene, Spellreflect + Interviene. They also have tons of defensive cooldowns and selfheals nowdays. So, the argument that Paladins should do less damage due to utility doesn’t hold up. if anything, Warriors should gain more group utility to balance out the field, rather than limiting and punishing Retribution’s damage output.

The changes don’t align with Blizzard’s assumed direction of making Paladins more support-oriented, particularly when considering the removal of usefull auras as well as buffs like Blessing of Might, Kings, and Wisdom … which gave them a unique role… Now, it seems Blizzard is systematically stripping Paladins of their defining abilities without providing adequate replacement.Again Blizz are just looking to force class diversity without doing the necessary job of making other classes appealing…

I would agree, though my biggest concern is that a lot of these “support” items just wont make that much of a difference. Maybe if you had a raid of only Rets you would start to see the impact, but there really isnt much in the Paladin’s “support loadout” that is really that impactful. One of the biggest things I do to help my raid is going and bubbling a mechanic or 2. We’ve cheesed many a raid fight via that.

But a tiny amount of off HPS is neither beneficial to the group or satisfying for the ret.

As for utility. We have got a lot, but some of it is a bit… Meh… Like we could really do with a decent AoE stun for example. Blinding light either needs buffing in effect or given a much shorter CD to be really useful in a M+

Blinding light needs to have the same effect as a stun, namely not be dispelled the moment someone looks at the mob, given it’s 90 sec CD.

The HPS seems like a band aid to our survivability given they won’t do the obvious solution which is to fix word of glory for ret

It feels like the changes are workarounds to problems they created, as it’s easier than admitting they created a problem.

Let them reroll  better for me

If that’s true then it doesn’t make it easier to get a raid slot but harder.

Exactly a paladin but not specificly a retribution paladin. Why not just invite a holy or protection paladin?
Further those two specs output isn’t nerved either for the other utility they have, the utility they have more than ret, especially holy.

WoW isn’t really designed with support classes in mind, not ever and especially not retail.
From my point of view the captain in Lotro is a mirror class to Wow’s paladin, except that in this case the class has actual support that can only be provided by a class with that exact spec.
Support is active and not just passive buffs the player has to attack to increase the damage output of others.
Without such differentiating factors there isn’t really any gain for each spec of the class to have use.
But even if there’s use, why is the heal or dps of other classes or other paladins diferent specs not weaker?
The argument has no point IMHO, it never had and even if it would the community wouldn’t get it.

From what I read the additional buff was just merged into the base talent? At least on Wowhead it’s not 30% instead of the baseline 20%.

Please move our “Wings” back to 1 min CD we already do low damage and this is a really heavy nerf. It feels horrible sitting on a 2 min CD that basically is all my damage but is lack luster compared to other classes 2 min CD windows.
It got moved up to 2 minutes from 1 but no buff to it was applied so we lost 50% of it’s power.

Also our ST is still too weak compared to other options the gap doesn’t need to be as big as it is you have aura buffs use them.

Please revert the dawnlight nerfs and buff hammer of light instead so both become competitive choices and we are moved more in line with the rest of the other specs damage output.
