Let me guess, you also think teachers shouldn’t use pronouns…
I second this
Thanks for the headsup!
all the titles from Notary Grably.
Thank you for the heads up!
For some reason I totally missed the titles…just rushed down and picked them up!
Edit: this kind of mistake is common when learning a language, as slang, local dialects and day-to-day casual use of words often don’t match up with formal rules.
And that’s why, as half brit born and grown up in germany (y’know, military parent, romance crap, stayed in shermany yada yada) me dad and I and me english teachers never got along very well xD
Which would translate to any other person growing up in a country where their mothertonuge is teached as 2nd language.
School languages are just…they make you able to communicate in that language, but that’s about it.
Ok guys I checked and what you are saying is not correct.
“They” as singular only re-emerged recently and only as part of the gender issues movement. It is new and the fact that the grammatical mistake was occasionally made between 1300 and 1700 does not change that.
“They”, as others stated, is a regulary used word for when refering to other people in general.
“They” has been pushed into the “that’s woke speach”…the heck is Schublade in english…bilingual brain sometimes be a curse…DRAWER!..dang it…“that’s woke speach” drawer from people who try to find “wokeness” in !EVERY! !BLOODY! !OH! !SO! !LITTLE! !THING!
They has been common use to refer to a person of unkown gender.
Read an acrticle of someone: “The heck are they talking about!”
The thing is just, most of the time you know the gender in one or the other way. You talk about a person you’ve seen outside, a streetworker or whatnot, or in the news or film, or I don’t know…
“They” as signular to refer to a person is common use, but the usecase is less than he or she because you know ones gender more often than not just by visuals or mentioning of names, which mostly are “genderlocked”.
That being said:
I THOUGHT I WAS FINNISHED?! I still miss two World Bosses for “The Originals” achievement!
Well the thing is that Alyx is clearly a female character (just take a look at her and please don’t tell me that an NPC can have gender dysmorphia ) so the sentence is still grammatically incorrect unless you tell me that “they singular” should be used even with a clearly identified gender. Reminder the starting point of that whole discussion was the sentence “Alex will make their way”
Like we have already explained this is nothing to do with gender pronouns.

Ah, missed that one.
In that case:
called a “polite plural”
We brits are the most polite people you’ll find
Ok well I guess this discussion will keep running in circles but native speaker or not I’ll continue to stick for the rest of my life that while you might say things like “everyone and their dog” saying “Marylin Monroe went back to their house” or “Ronald Reagan started their presidency” is grammatically incorrect and neither was used even 3 years ago.
It has been used for centuries but no matter how many people tell you. You wont listen.

Here, have a cuppa
Now calm down, and look at this again:
“Oh they’re over there by the bar”
“Oh she’s over there by the bar”
“Oh they’re over there.” as singular is so bloody normal in GB.
“Yeah let’s head over to their house”
It depends a lot of how you grew up, how your family and friends talk. It’s so mixed over there, one says he/she, the next their, but non is incorrect and pretty wide spread.
Typical forums derailing a thread about an important announcement to talk about pronouns instead
But that’s for Timewarped Badges, no?
They’re, their and there? We are not amused!
So we got tomorrow also.
Cool, I don’t feel like playing today either, and can leave the PC off for another day.
I wonder, will the Frayfeather Hippogryph still be available after the event?
neither was used even 3 years ago.
I think you mean “non of them were used 3 year ago”.
Thanks yes I might have made a mistake. Pretty sure on the other hand that “none” is spelt with an “e”
Edit : and after checking on an English grammar site I do believe that “neither was used” is correct here.
Thanks for everything, Blizzard!
I believe ‘none’ means ‘not one’ / less than one. Zero in number.
‘Non-xx’ means isn’t xx. As in non-existent means it doesn’t exist.
