Increase nameplate range from 20yrds

It looks like in the original code, the original development team intended to create a checkbox that toggled nameplate distance between 20 and 41 yards, but ran into a technical limitation.

In an upcoming build of the Burning Crusade Classic Beta, you can set the nameplate distance between 0 and 41 yards (inclusive) by setting this command in the chat box:

/script SetCVar(“nameplateMaxDistance”, 41)

Thanks for the suggestion!

Why?
Long nameplate range is really bad for pvp. Retail RBG meta is to cycle through the list of enemies using an addon so you know exactly where every single enemy is, communicating information should be part of the game. It’s effectively wallhack

Agree with post above

Glorious news for anyone playing a ranged class.

They changed the entire arena system. I think it’s safe to say any concern about authenticity is long gone.

Spy can pick them up long before they are within 41 yard range. Arena target frames lets players target enemies long before they get within 41 yard range. The biggest impact this has on pvp is that it reduces the impact of addons, which is a good thing.

Very weird change. You guys never stop surprising. Did you not remove this in classic beta because of WSG for example when you could track players through the walls?

It was removed a while after classic launch. I don’t think they stated any other reason other than it not being in vanilla.

great change, please consider enabling unlimited nameplates only whilst you’re inside arena games. heard a lot of the top players/streamers requesting for this as well on streams and such. 41 yards is enough to cover most of the map so you might as well just allow players inside arena to see eachother at all points, especially with how prominent LoS/pillar play is.

spy is completely irrelevant. Spy only tells you there is a person somewhere within your combatlog range, whereas nameplates show you exactly where that person is.

Whilst BGs aren’t competitive in TBC it just creates trouble down the line when they become relevant as you must have an addon to display each enemy then you just cycle through them and you know the locations of an entire team.

As for arena with or without nameplate range addons won’t be affected. However trying to hide/delay stealth etc becomes meaningless as the person knows exactly where you are without having to calculate.

One of the biggest part’s of TBC arena is reseting and hiding to get drinks. 41 yrds namepaltes is gonna ruin thius part of the game.

Blizzard yet again shows how out of touch they are with their own game.

Thank the lord! Brilliant news!

You can do that in retail arena with increased range. Won‘t be an issue. Happy that they implement the good stuff

Maybe, honestly im not sure. Im a bit afraid of how many changes they are starting to add
Where will it end?

Because playing ranged with short nameplate range doesn’t feel great

Update!

There’s a way more compact way to do this. Example:

/script SetCVar(“nameplateMaxDistance”, 41)

Have fun with that!

Ok nice, now let’s get to work on the guildbanks. You have 2 days.

Note the curly quotes because of the forum, they should be straight quotes. You can avoid this by using a code tag instead of blockquote

/run SetCVar("nameplateMaxDistance", 41)

Thanks a lot!
