Anduin Adjustments Coming Soon

We’re currently testing, and intend to deploy hotfixes that will fix bugs and adjust the difficulty of the Anduin encounter in Sepulcher of the First Ones:

Anduin

  • Hopebreaker damage over time reduced by 10% in Heroic difficulty.
  • Fixed a bug that caused Befouled Barrier to absorb 100% of healing received. Befouled Barrier should absorb 75% of healing in Heroic and Mythic difficulties, and 50% in Normal and Raid Finder difficulties.
  • Grim Reflections health reduced by 20% in non-Mythic difficulties.
  • Purging Light damage over time reduced by 20% in Heroic difficulty.

“Befouled Barrier should absorb 75% of healing in Heroic and Mythic difficulties, and 50% in Normal and Raid Finder difficulties.”

Suppose that the initial cosmic eruption damage is healed, and members are staying under the barrier with full or nearly full health bars. Consider a simple heal of 5000. With that spell in normal, the barrier is reduced by 2500 and the other half is overheal. In heroic, 3750 goes to the barrier, and the overheal is 1250. (I am aware of course that the barrier size is different and other stuff is happening besides the eruption.)

The reasoning behind the above hotfix was to give the ability to heal injured players during the absorb, is that correct? However, I wonder whether the overheal loss ratio was considered. Let’s take a normal mode encounter with raid size of 30, thus a barrier size should be around 700k. Consider the 2nd barrier at ~01:10 with half the raid in shadow realm for a while. Up to 1.4M total healing may be required to cancel this barrier (in reality the overheal loss ratio should always be below 50% but that’s not the main point now). Is this math correct and more importantly, is this the intended tuning of Anduin in normal mode?
