Being able to collect mogs of the lower tiers when you fully complete a higher tier set is great and a very welcome change to all. Yet for some reason Blizzard decided that taking an easy W would be too much thus now you wont be able to get higher transmogs by upgrading a gear.
The biggest impact this would have is for hero track gears where getting it to 5/6 would unlock mythic track mog of it. Dev notes talk about so called prestige but there are CE titles and mounts for mythic raiders. I can’t imagine which part of the community would even celebrate this changes. On top of that what will happen to people who focus on delves and/or mythic+? For delve people it is impossible to get a mythic mog now. For m+ people, despite doing a content equally hard to m raiding at higher keys, you are at the mercy of your vault. Your rng sucks? Too bad. You need that neck item instead of mog? Too bad.
Blizzard needs to revert this change. If they want to stick with their so called prestige then offer a way for other people to gain these mogs. One of them is called mythic plus for gods sake.
I have always been a fan of the upgrade to unlock system.
But it has always felt a little too easy to unlock the Mythic appearances. For example, I have already unlocked Mythic appearance on multiple classes this season. So I’m not surprised that they made this change.
Don’t get me wrong, I would totally support them keep it the way it is now. But I’m not going to complain that they made the change, and will continue to enjoy what I have already unlocked.
Let’s hope that they make collecting Myth Track gear a little bit more available than it is now. Not having to rely on the Great vault once a week.
I would have less of a problem if there is a way to get it in M+ beyond praying for vault or having to waste vault slots to get an item for catalyst.
As it stands now, it really punishes M+ players who have been able to get mythic appearances since they were brought back end of SL (provided they had high enough rating, until end of DF S1 when the new system was brought in for DF S2).
It’s effectively saying to high level M+ players “come back in 2 years scrub, it’s for the REAL players, run along”.
How I would personally consider doing this:
Revert the change.
Make M+ 12 keys drop mythic gear
High level M+ keys could have a chance to drop “cosmetic” gear for the mythic set.
Allow upgraded gear to unlock additional appearances if the player meets a goal, such as 3K rating (sort of like SL S4 / DF S1)
Will catalyst be weekly again at least ? Otherwise, no Catalyst until you get Mythic gear I suppose ?
Yeah I agree it’s a bad change, the 2nd part. It’ s the only way some people get their hands on Mythic looks, and for me that is a reason to keep playing a season.
So the catalyst is the reason I don’t stop a season when reaching the key level I aimed for. This will result in quick season from my end. I like getting Hero gear → catalyst → upgrading to 6/6. Now that part is basically removed, sad change, but maybe better for life since season (for me) will be shorter. Get KSM, get Portals, see you in 6 months !
As a collector but also MMO player, I am divided by this. On one hand it makes collecting more of a chore which is bad for collectors. On the other hand it gives an incentive to group up for Mythic raids of previous Seasons, which the game is in dire need of.
I’d rather it stay how it is now then lose the ability to unlock the higher set with upgrading. Its so hard to actually get a full set without upgrading it feels like a massive downgrade with only one chance a week for the m+ players
No, it does not give an incentive to do that, no amount of “prestige”-rewards piled into raiding (Mythic or otherwise) has ever done that.
Also, why does the game need more people running mythic raids? Maybe it’s good for Mythic raiding (The low single-digit percentage of players who engage with it, anyway), but how does it help the game in general?
It’s buried in the developer notes. Way down at Items.
Fully collecting a class set’s appearances now unlocks all lower difficulty variants. For example, collecting all Mythic appearances will automatically unlock the Heroic, Normal, and Raid Finder variants while unlocking Heroic would only unlock Normal and Raid Finder, etc. Eligible sets will be marked as such in the set collection UI. This change is retroactive to all legacy content. Items will no longer change their appearance when upgraded.
Developers’ notes: While we feel the Catalyst has been largely successful in expanding access to powerful seasonal set bonuses, it has also generated friction in its dual use as the primary source of class set appearances for many players. This friction has been further exacerbated by loot roll restrictions in situations such as participating in LFR raiding. In conjunction with this change, we want to better preserve the value and identity of item art from difficult content.
I’m not exactly sure it means we won’t get the appearence when upgrating, maybe it’s badly worded and it just means the item itself won’t change appearence unless we mog it, but we will still get the appearence in the collection tab, I might be a foolish optimist on this one.
It’s odd because the prestige of a Mythic set appearance has a shelf life.
I can farm any of the Legion raid Mythic appearances for example, which theoretically undermines the achievement of someone who got those while they were currents.
Titles retain the prestige because they aren’t available after the season in which they were relevant.
I feel like if Blizzard wants Mythic set appearances to be prestigious, then the obvious but deeply controversial thing is to only make those appearances available during the tier in which a given raid is relevant.
This has completely deflated my excitment for Midnight. I only play solo because of disability reasons and doing delves at my super slow pace and for the first time collecting these transmogs was the greatest fun I had since Wotlk. Taking that away basically removes my reason to log in and play (collecting toys, mounts and transmogs at my hyper slow pace is basically my gameplay…)
Blizzard, why does everything have to be such a struggle with you? It’s very frustrating to say the least… yeah I know, you’re mindest is “You think you do, but you don’t herp herp” because I don’t even know anymore… do you have to look at everything from the raiders perspective?!
I have yet to find a raider who told me I don’t deserve the mythic transmog because I only played delves. Not a single one. The raiders who know me were actually quite happy for me that I got a game mode that worked so well for me.
Anyway, GG blizz >.< I already bought the expansion because I’m an idiot, so I’ll probably play the story and then say bye bye.
Well at the moment, in game, you see the Mythic colour of the current set and you don’t know anything about that player, as they could have just spammed Delves on alts.
With the new rules, you see the Mythic colour of the current set, and you know that player has achieved something. That “prestige” lasts for the season/expansion.
Personally, I would rather they kept it as it was and put a time-restricted colour set in for 3k rating, Mythic Kill etc. that’s a much more suitable way to preserve prestige.
Ah, that is annoying. Fortunately I am doing end game content with friends so this is possible for me now but if I wasn’t I’d grumble and have to wait to farm it the old fashioned legacy way.
Yeah, that was awful. Can you imagine, these people dressed like Mythic Raiders? What’s going to happen next? People are going to start dressing however they want, walking around, and doing whatever they want in my video game? By the way, who are you? Why are people sharing their opinions here? I hope Blizzard does something about this.
This can’t be true. It’s one of the best changes they made a couple of years ago. I went from someone who doesn’t really collect sets, to play alts just for collecting them. How can they be so stupid? How?
I hate this change, it devalues the game.
I’m NOT going to wait 4 years to get an appearance. Having to wait such a long time is not fun. So it ruins the game. It takes away the will to play. It’s a bad, bad decision that spits in the face of the majority of the playerbase.
Besides, there is no prestige. People who do mythic raids aren’t prestigious. Blizzard needs to stop selling this lie. Doing stuff in games is not some great feat; it just means you waste too much of your life doing nonsense.
Maybe this is a good change. It means i’ll play new expansions for a short time after they are released, farm mythic transmogs from the previous expansion, and then just pause my subscription until the next expansion.
It will actually save me a lot of money if they make delves pointless like this.
