A refuge to the road-weary and those seeking a respite from the trials and travails of an adventurer’s life, the Arcantina in Midnight serves as a crossway for all kinds. This magical tavern is poised at the crossroads of nowhere and everywhere catering to travelers and heroes from all walks of life. Here you’ll reunite with some familiar faces, share stories, and take on new quests that send you all over Azeroth and beyond.
So we get to own multiple homes in various worldlocations?
Really looking forward to this. The quests to go to old zones is a great idea I’ve been hoping for.
I can’t wait! Though, I fear I might spend too much time in there …
Looks like Port Nowhere. I’ll take a look.
See if I understand it correct.
Probably on a weekly rotation, some random NPCs from old expansions will be hanging around, offering quests that relate to old zones where you have to go kill some random baddies for whatever reasons.
And as a reward you get progress toward seeing the Arcantina get more decorated, and then you earn decorations for your own House as well.
I don’t know…
It feels like if you’re into collecting decors for Housing, then you’re going to do this.
If you’re not, then it’s hard to see why you’d bother.
I mean, it sounds like neither the NPCs or the quests are going to relate to the actual story of the expansion we’re playing. It’s just random old quests put into a new context in order to re-use them in a modern setting – effectively creating a grind for decors out of old content.
Am I missing something?
Yeah, why bother with anything?
A quest. Well, a quest is just a hurdle on the way to some minuscle little story tidbit from a character that doesn’t really exist. Completely pointless. Pushing butto-. You know, actually. Let’s just stop with the game entirely.
All this pushing buttons, moving a cursor around. It’s all for not-.
In fact, let’s just die right now. On the spot. There’s no point doing anything!
XAL’ATATH TAKE ME!
I think if the NPCs and the quest objectives related to the story of Midnight, then it would be interesting to engage in from a story perspective.
But what it sounds like, is that some Pandaren is going to show up and ask for help dealing with the Virmen that are eating all the carrots on their farm. So go kill 20 Virmen, and then you get 5% progress toward your House decor. Oh, and here’s a portal that takes you to Pandaria.
Maybe it’s more than that, and it’s actually Chen Stormstout who shows up! And he needs you to take Li Li on a journey to visit all the Celestials in Pandaria to learn more about their origin. And if you do that, then you get 5% progress toward your House decor. Oh, and here’s a portal that takes you to Pandaria. Li Li is waiting for you.
But in both cases it’s not really relating to Midnight, and it’s also not new story if you’ve already played Mists of Pandaria.
So I struggle to see what the inherent appeal is, besides the decor rewards if you’re into Housing.
But hey, if friggin’ Medivh shows up and wants me to travel to the plane that the Titans originate from and kick some Algalon folks into the next dimension, then it could be really cool!
…I just don’t think that’s the scope of it.
No I think that’s fairly accurate, and we’ve always known housing wouldn’t appeal to everyone. That tends to apply for a lot of features in the game though, so it’s not that big a deal imho.
I partially apologize for my juvenile initial reply, but it had a slight point …
Does it need an external appeal? And it might be that you need that, absolutely.
But I am asking if that not more so says more about your mindset than the game.
Personally, I’m happy to play World of Warcraft. The Arcantina is a new feature in World of Warcraft. We are being told we’ll, likely, see familiar faces in the Arcantina. Characters that I, due to them being in World of Warcraft, always enjoy seeing. To varying degrees, granted. I never was much for Danath, personally.
I enjoy playing World of Warcraft, is what I am saying. Period. Does that make sense?
I do not need an external reward to be happy playing World of Warcraft.
Extrinsic motivation in the form of a long-term reward or a bonus to my time spent enjoying the game, absolutely. I won’t ever turn that down. As an achievement hunter, playing the long game is one of my many specialities. Yet it is arguably not my primary point of motivation. Extrinsic motivation is not the fuel for my intrinsic motivation.
Whoa!! Better than housing, this will be my home ![]()
Love it ![]()
Within its cozy walls, the tavern teems with life; upbeat music drifts through the air, laughter rings out between friends, and old adventures are fondly recalled over shared drinks.
Looking forward to this! The name is a bit silly but the idea is great.
I like the name
Oh, absolutely.
WoW puts a lot of emphasis on completing objectives for rewards that are part of collections, and that alone is plenty of motivation for many to get involved. Plus, decors are the new thing to collect, so that’s a point of attraction as well for many – especially for those who care about getting something for a specific house layout.
It’s just not for me. I’m kind of over that. I’ll put the time and effort into a reward if it’s actually useful to me, but collecting for the sake of collecting doesn’t really interest me anymore.
I am very drawn to the story though, but it has to be relevant story and not just old story presented in a new way. I appreciate that Blizzard sees value in all the old content they have available, and for many players who didn’t play all the previous expansions there’s surely a lot of inherent gameplay value in going back to some of those old places without needing to play Classic WoW. And for some I’m sure the nostalgia of going back to some old zone will carry the experience on its own.
But for me it’s about the new. I’m buying Midnight for a new story and a new content experience, not to be served with old stories and old content I’ve already done before, just presented in a different way.
And I guess my grumble is that I can see how it could be for me, but from the description of it, then it doesn’t seem like Blizzard are using it as an opportunity to go above and beyond. It’s a feature for using more of the old expansions to bolster the max level gameplay experience, and in a rather basic way, I think.
We’ll simply have to wait and see, no?
With, might I suggest, an optimistic and positive outlook?
Speaking from experience, I can tell you it makes everything more fun.
About this? I don’t really see how I can spin it in my own favor.
There are other parts of Midnight that I’m very much looking forward to, that I’m optimistic about, and eagerly await seeing.
This however, from the description alone (I haven’t played Beta and try to avoid spoilers), doesn’t really suggest more than what’s shown.
Does look amazing. Dark and warm with fire.
I get the feeling that outside’s a winter or heavy rain, or just the night; it’s inside you want to be.
But I thought I would meet others… Said both alliance and horde? I was thinking a haven?
If it’s not that, I don’t think I will go. But if it is, maybe I too can do a quest of the past.
Great ceiling. Great weapons. Great shelves. Great paintings.
Now give the same things for players…
Sounds about right - typical modern day cut and paste regurgitate slop. Zero imagination from this generation.
