As the daughter of the Amani chieftain, Zul’jarra has spent her life in preparation to shoulder the heavy burden of leadership. When a rival tribe’s leader challenges her claim, Zul’jarra must undertake a desperate journey to prove herself and face the usurper head-on
Meh, I don’t want to read.
Why isn’t this a 2D video like the Xal one?

i really wish the amani had remained as unsympathetic fodder to cut down given how immensely cruel they’ve historically been shown as being
sanitising them doesn’t appeal to those who like them in their raw, unfiltered form and a lot of focus upon them also detracts from the opportunity to focus on the playable troll options in the form of the darkspear and zandalari…who, i note, are currently rather neglected and rudderless
for once we agree.
And that is what people mean when they complain about World of Peacecraft. Not (only) the lack of faction war, but the lack of any bad faction outside of the designated villain.
not even gnolls or kobolds were spared…
it’s a plague upon modern fantasy settings, this strange inability for any race no matter how inhuman or monstrous to just be seen as a pest to cull
particularly strange in the case of gnolls, which regularly murdered travelers and stitched together tents out of the skin of their victims
Is the short story SO bad? Should I even bother downloading it?

Thing is: If you keep them in their ‘raw, unfiltered form’ they HAVE to be villains. Murderous barbaric people tend to not be good ‘team players’.
And then other people will complain and be unhappy (Oh, a ‘horde race’ is villainbatted again!).
Blizzard really can’t win here, ever.
Always complaints. Always whining.

Thing is, “Hate” is an emotion too. Yet Blizzard treats the ability to hate like a villain trait.
They really are Siths, they deal only in absolutes ![]()
Joke aside, if they write factions and people in ways that can only show “toxic positivity”, then that’s a downfall that writes itself long-term.
if they write factions and people in ways that can only show “toxic positivity”,
Well, that’s not the case.
And claiming that, would be nonsensical hyperbole.

it’s very prone to the usual tropes you’d expect of modern writing, is all i will say

i think it is pretty crystal clear that you will never get it, as you effectively just want the same outcome and story over and over again
with minimal grit or dark edges by your own admission
i think the amani are pretty cool in their unfiltered form and i’d rather not see them added to the list of fodder races watered down significantly to the point where there’s minimal regional local conflicts for role play characters to work into their backstories/events
Well, that’s not the case.
Maybe not in the literal sense.
But think back. Ever since Shadowlands. When have you seen the last time any faction show any form of negative emotion towards other factions? Races between races?
The only time I can remember was during TWWs epilogue S1 where Turalyon and Gahrea (can’t spell her name, that Mag’har Orc leader) “insult” (I would call it rathermore friendly teasing) each others army capabilities before the Confrontation Hallowfall. And the very badly written Arathi Highland patch where the Red Dawn propaganda books speak of racism and such towards other races (the only good thing in that story patch imo).
In both cases it was done so bad and so on-the-nose. It makes it very clear that NO ONE at Blizzard writing these stories today has ever faced actual exclusion, hatred and such in real life. They couldn’t be more sheltered in their ultra-progressive bubble in California.
Compare that to 2 of my low-income co-workers who at work during break talk about how they would handle a person attacking another, innocent person in public (based on an incident that happened in germany 1-2 weeks ago). They literally said they would tie that person down and beat them for weeks, instead of putting them into jail.
You want to tell me that those writers in their shelter bubble and those co-workers are the same in capability to hate? The Blizzard writers would probably give said murderer of the incident a slap on the wrist and a monologue about how to do better in their stories.
Hilarious.

LOADS of times.
In DF: Centaurs, gnolls, dragonkin etc were hateful towards others of their own kind, towards outsiders in some cases.
In TWW: Lots of races bashing each other… Earthen vs Earthen, Earthen vs Nerubians, Arathi vs Nerubians, Arathi vs Kobyss, etc etc etc
I have no idea what you’re talking about. Or do you think that fighting each other is done out of love for another? ![]()
In DF: Centaurs, gnolls, dragonkin etc were hateful towards others of their own kind, towards outsiders in some cases.
And the funny thing is many liked them showing that. Even rooted for them.
But still not on a level that people like me would remember it even. Tbf tho, I try to forget Dragonflight (or how I call it “Representationflight”).
In TWW: Lots of races bashing each other… Earthen vs Earthen, Earthen vs Nerubians, Arathi vs Nerubians, Arathi vs Kobyss, etc etc etc
I give you that on the Arathi and the Kobyss and a bit on the Nerubians in the first 1-2 quests in Hallowfall.
Other than that, those topics are very quickly dropped. The Nerubians stop mattering for the most part in the Hallowfall campaign and the focus shifts more on the Kobyss (which don’t do anything major since they have no distinctive leader) and then back again to the Nerubians that suddenly now are the “big threat” again.
And that for 1 season. And see this, is the issue.
When I compare it to older expansions, say Legion or BfA, the “enemy faction” (in Legion the Legion and in BfA the Horde/Alliance), those enemy factions did matter for more than just 1 season. Their presence was maintained longer, their influence and stakes in the story was bigger.
When comparing that to the Nerubians and Kobyss, neither of them matter anymore post the raid or the Hallowfall leveling story. They are, simple said, “forgettable”.
Meanwhile the Burning Legion was an enemy that kept re-appearing multiple times and wasn’t forgettable. The Horde vs Alliance conflict did re-emerge a few times in WoWs history in changing forms and the factions still linger somewhat present and important (although castrated of their older days glory) in the story.
Even Hogger in Elwynn Forest is more remembered than the TWW Nerubians and Kobyss simply for being such a pain in the bum back in 2004 for all the veteran players.
Mediocracy and inaction doesn’t earn factions a story that is remembered. Same as inaction and lack of confidence/self-worth won’t get people a partner IRL.
When I compare it to older expansions, say Legion or BfA, the “enemy faction” (in Legion the Legion and in BfA the Horde/Alliance), those enemy factions did matter for more than just 1 season.
And Xal with her lackeys and forces also matters more than just 1 season. ![]()
This is just a different type of story.
Not one of 'Oh new lands. Oh… Everyone wants to kill us here apparently."
And I’m fine with that, to be honest.
I don’t need places like the Maw where we literally had 1 ally.
Or Icecrown where we only had our own factional camps (and later on those stupid tournement grounds).
xal’atath is a global threat, not a regional one
there are many different layers to roleplay, including those who just want to be the ‘everyday’ adventurer cutting down some amani as part of an event
even the everyday threats are being wrapped up in such a way as to render them obsolete, hence the concern
but again, if someone does not partake of roleplay themselves or does and only focuses on slice of life elements then as mentioned they are unlikely to get it
Finally troll stuff. Now we need them playable as full seperate race.

Apparently the worgen just wants to kill them. ![]()
Trolls did nothing wrong. Of course the thief who took their land wants to keep it. Nothing new from human fans in this game.
