Watch the Arator Animation: Son of Two Worlds

Elf. Human. Mother. Father. Darkness. Light. For Arator, division has defined his entire life; embracing these dualities has given it purpose.

A small retcon from the WoTA trilogy by Knaak.

He wrote that Vereesa was unaware of Sylvanas’ fate in the first WoTA book…but it turns out she knew about it as she was in Dalaran when Arthas, Kel’Thuzad and Sylvanas were destroying it.

really dislike this art style, doesn’t really capture the original iconic vibe of high elves and blood elves, looks like the sort of netflix slop i see the terminally online on tumblr and bluesky retweet alongside lectures on ‘media literacy’

also hate the focus on half elves, which were always just an excuse to have a pretty elven woman hang off of the arm of a generic human, strange that they’ve been retconned to be accepted when the older lore treated them with disgust and contempt

also it’s a blatant retcon as arator was a non entity for most of the game’s existence, such a shame to see a cool concept such as balancing ‘light’ and ‘darkness’ wasted on someone like him

sucks that actual elves who remain loyal to their homeland and people will be sidelined for soap opera drama through the windrunners, who have consistently been divisive characters bereft of meaningful consequences for even the most horrific of actions (hello vereesa, hi sylvanas…)

So basically this video is one giant explanation to the plot hole that was Arator’s childhood. In summary, he started in the Alliance, then lived in Dalaran being raised by Vereesa, then joined Blood Elves and lived like four to five years there. Even his eyes turned green like those of a Sin’dorei. Once he reached his adolescent years and got trained enough in the art of swordsmanship he joined the Alliance Paladins mixed with Argent Crusade (probably joined the latter when he heard that Blood Elves joined the Horde and he didn’t want to raise his sword against Liadrin and Lor’themar). Learned his way with the Light and his eyes changed into yellow.

It is not a bad story but I still feel like something is missing. Like there could be way more to it.

I agree.
It just doesn’t feel like Warcraft. It’s generic anime wannabe stuff.

I want them to do cinematics in the style of the MoP cinematic. More realistic than ingame, but still very much stylized in that very particular Warcraft design language.

This style:

Imo that style is better than both 2D anime-esque drivel and the hyper realism of the Midnight cinematic. Ah well…

You have to constantly keep in the back of your mind the warning that some characters are not going to survive in Midnight. We don’t know what is in store for him or any others for that matter. If they going through this much effort to introduce him and fill in the gaps, then you also need to accept that new faces are going to rise up into the ranks. He may just be one of them.

Personally I appreciate these as it is a start to build a connection - even if I don’t like what I am seeing or worry about what may or may not happen. Do try and keep an open mind.

Who said this look like anime, huh?
It’s not anime. It’s little like anime, more NA animated/cartoon

It’s pretty like Castlevania’s tv shows style. I loved it.

Yea I dont mind the artstyle either. I am more interested in the story and the tone. If they keep this up I may just get very invested.

I appreciate it for that too, sure. I just don’t like how it is presented.
The aesthetic looks cheap, generic and ugly to me and lacks any sort of that classic Warcraft design quality.

I don’t like the art style of the shorts but I do like the complexity of Arathor’s character.

Blizzard, pls more of this, this really gives us a darker story which delivers on it’s characters in it. We really could use a full blown Arthas story in this format, lots of grit, but some lighthearted moments along the way.

I like the art style alot. Still he is not Horde no matter how many retcons they throw in.

I don’t like the weird emphasis they have on the lines of the face with the protuding cheekbones. It’s so distracting to me that I find myself focusing on that more than the story, which is a shame because I don’t find the story that bad. Giving a character more backstory, a character that you’ve had sitting in the game since forever and plan to use now, is not a wrong course of action, it just could have been done in a more visually elegant way.

Also this one seemed more sloppy than the Liadrin one, in some scenes the heads were weirdly large compared to the body. :dracthyr_crylaugh:

I guess they will bring Vereesa’s twins, Giramar and Galadin into this soon..

Yeah it’s also comic show she had twins. I wished they show in game as grown up
I thinked, both are Arator’s “brothers”. Since Vereesa raised them all and same half-elf/human.
