Adjustments to Reduce Non-Participation in Dungeons

Update April 14, 04:15 CEST

Yesterday, we implemented the hotfixes described above to support core gameplay in instances in Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary. Unfortunately, these changes were impaired by bugs that did not appear in our pre-release testing. The result was unintended behavior of drops for both solo and group players. For example: one bug resulted in some players becoming completely disallowed from rolling on loot.

With an update we sent to the live game a few minutes ago, we have reverted the original changes while we investigate these bugs.

Thank you for your feedback.

We’ve observed a significant number of Burning Crusade players entering dungeons and then participating in no meaningful gameplay, often while only one party member plays through the instance. When this is prominent, it can lead to detrimental economic effects, among other concerns, so we’re implementing a series of hotfixes to address it.

The Burning Crusade Classic

  • Dungeons
    • Players must participate in combat to receive experience from dungeons.
    • The amount of loot dropped by non-boss enemies in high-level dungeons is now determined by how many players participate in the kill.

The vast majority of players who participate in dungeon groups as usual should see no difference after these updates.

These changes will go into effect with scheduled weekly maintenance in each region.

Why are these blueposts always so short and cryptic? Can you please give us some more information and reasoning?

  • What does participating in combat mean?
  • What loot dropped by non-boss enemies do you mean? Fel Armaments? Gold? Green BoEs?
  • What dungeons are considered high-level?
  • How many players have to participate in the kill for the normal amount of loot to drop?
  • What is the goal of these changes? Do you want to reduce the supply of raw gold to players? Do you want to reduce the supply of dungeon-derived materials and items? Do you think that doing this will reduce gold-buying?
  • What detrimental economic effects are you seeking to address? Do you think the prices of player-sold items are currently higher than they “should” be relative to players’ gold-earning ability? Or lower?
  • What are some officially-approved ways of making gold, if farming dungeons is not one?

No more stratholme farm? Seems I have two more days to farm my mount. Welp. Spent a lot of time getting gear for stratholme farm. If it’s dead, I probably wouldn’t bother with tank offspec at all, that was my main motivation.

Maybe Stratholme is not “high level dungeon”? We will see. Keeping my fingers crossed.

No is more anti boost stuff . From what i get from this . If there is 5 people in but only 1 guy does dmg there will be reduced drops and no exp for any one afking . Basically is thing to stop slave pens boosts .

They nerfed boosting the first time around to sell their own boost. Now they nerfing gold making so they can sell wow tokens?

What dungeons are considered high-level? I need to know

Never boosted in dungeons but these changes made me not buy boost to 58 lvl which I recently considered. I do not want to support these decisions. You should ban bots and gold sellers. Anywhere where there is actual skill involved, should be normal part of the game.

I specifically created three additional accounts so I could boost myself through dungeons — not to farm gold like the big players who are actually abusing the system. It feels unfair that everyone is now being punished for something only a portion of the player base was doing excessively.

Are you at least planning to work on a solution so that reaching level 70 doesn’t take an unreasonable amount of time? Right now, this change doesn’t just discourage boosting — it discourages people from playing alts/twinks altogether.

How do you expect players to approach leveling going forward under these conditions?

Punish the bots, not the real players farming gold. Also, when are you going to start communicating clearly and not like a politican?

Kaivax I respect you and this message wont be a rant towards you, that being said:

So those clowns decided that instead of doing what players ask for the gonna do something totally random cause they have no clue about job they are doing. First bluepost since god knows when and its about some bs. This is just F-ing pathetic.

-no info about when phase2 drops
-no info if TBC is going into Wrath or Era servers
-no info about increasing loot in T4 raids like players asked for (since phases are shorter than before + pvp gear is easier to obtain so why pve gear wouldnt be?)
-0 info about dealing with bots in Nagrand or SV

Dont get me wrong Im against boosting, its just that we have worse things that need to be fixed.

Wanting to get rid of boosts is one thing… I am kind of relieved you didn’t just get rid of the low level boosts because you’re selling your own, but you’re also going after the high level ones such as slave pens. That’s some sort of reasoning, having to play the actual game in order to gain levels. At least with the boosting in-game one player still had to play the game. With the 60 euro version, no one is, but either way. Anti boost is anti boost. Fair enough. But then…

“The amount of loot dropped by non-boss enemies in high-level dungeons is now determined by how many players participate in the kill.”

What are high level dungeons? And even then.. why?

If you aim to “fix” the economy, why can rogues and druids (and bots using them) still enter instances with herbalism, mining and lockpicking? Among a myriad of other ways you can get easy gold quickly.

A player soloing an instance is somehow a problem? That’s something that you can always do and have always been able to do if you’re good enough, in any version of this game.

This is exactly why “#nochanges” was a thing. Not because vanilla or classic WoW is/was perfect, but because modern Blizzard in general cannot be trusted to make changes to the game that are beneficial to the players.

Another change noone asked for that seems to do more harm than good

This is the worst change I’ve seen in a good long while.

  • This doesn’t fix the botting issue, which already have run rampant in open world more.
  • This doesn’t fix the economy overnight, especially cuz of point 1 and mass gold buyers. If anything, this will push gold buying even more.
  • This sounds like you will also punish legitimate players like healers that are drinking in a dungeon in the back and the rest goes ahead, indirectly healers getting zero XP for “playing the game”.

I can’t believe how out of touch this company has become with their own game. This is just going to be infuriating for legitimate players, like soloing old dungeons already was, all cuz you fail to catch “organizations that mass boost and sell gold”.

And while writing this, I wonder why I even bother writing here, cuz even if it gets read, the chance that it gets responded to is lower than Antartica becoming a subtropical paradise.

All I can give you is a congratulations for killing your own game faster.

How can it be that you always make it harder for the normal players to make gold and Easyer for the gold sellers to sell there gold and bot to farm…

Some people like to farm pre TBC dungeons and the gold/hour ain’t that much anyway. Please let them play the game as they like. This worked fine 20 years, making changes now wont help anyone. And why don’t you just ban boosting and get it over with once and for all? It worked for GDKP’s and it will 100% work for boosting.

Absolutely pathetic, you guys really have lost the plot. Shame.

How about we get some info on next phase release?
How about we stop the herds of bots?

No, lets punish (some) people enjoying solo content.
