Additional Guardian Tuning - 13 May

Our recent adjustments to Guardian have made the Elune’s Chosen build stronger than intended. We’re going to take steps to bring this back in line with realm restarts during scheduled weekly maintenance this week.

Classes

Druid

  • Guardian
    • Thrash direct damage reduced by 25%.
    • Elune’s Favored now heals for 15% of Arcane damage dealt (was 25%).
  • Developers’ Notes: These changes aim to bring this build closer to its expected output: high-damage relative to other tanks, but not abnormally so.

We recognize that the build in question avoids the Apex talent. With this tuning, we’re choosing to not break the Elune’s Chosen build or require the Apex talent. We have further plans to update the Guardian Apex Talent in a future patch to give us more flexibility with it and alleviate some of the current pain points for Druids.

How does that fix anything? I can still choose not to pick Apex and never dump Rage into an offensive attack. There is little incentive to Mangle as well because my resource requirement is mostly met without it due to Ironfur armor diminishing returns and Thorns of Iron talent being a thing of the past.

You’re only making Claw Guardian even worse. You didn’t just overtune the abilities, you’ve broken the whole specialization by clumsily shuffling damage numbers around.

If anyone had looked at the logs of those 5 druids; the top user has only ~130ish Mangle casts over 33 minutes and others have significantly less. Essentially with Incarnarion CDR in mind the player could have simply stopped using the button only 10 minutes into the run at no detriment to performance and no one on the team would have noticed the difference.

Why on Earth druid’s damage should be higher than other tanks?

Maybe because it doesn’t bring a raid buff? oh, wait it brings the raid buff in the game.

Because it is the only tank that has 2 different talents on opposite ends of the tree that turn their damage output into a self-sustaining survival factor. Nerf the damage or the conversion % and watch the class fall apart.

Again I’m not complaining about the numbers but over how ridiculous the gameplay has become because of the tuning. Everyone could see that the last week’s change wouldn’t last long but instead of fixing things, they’re just making it worse with another panic intervention.

For three years they couldn’t even design a proper Raze animation and graphical effect and no one wants to even take the talent. On my Haranir Bear it isn’t even showing, just gets drowned out between autoattacks and other skipped or clipped abilities. If feels and looks more pathetic than Swipe which has a single purpose as filler to extend Ravage DOT when you have absolutely nothing else to press. Now it is more practical to spam Moonfire for Lunar Beam CDR.

I genuinely believe the balancing team of WoW is full of inexperienced interns just going nuts every week and watch the world burn. This patch feels like live beta and is kinda bummer. You would think Blizzard would be more professional.

Dogsht balancing

The engineer in charge of balancing is called Claude Code, and you have to cut him some slack, he’s still very new at this!

They only panicked because an all bear comp cleared 3 levels below a meta comp by some degenerate nerds.

Pretty much sure 4BM 1MW is possible as well for those 0.1% on a 20

How about you stop this circus and rework some classes , prot paladin need his block chance back , like wtf is that 23% block chance on a shield user like why ??? , the team is buffing his cooldowns , but hes legit tanky inside his cooldowns , crazy right ?

Rework guardian druid apex talent , the talent need to be related to his kit not his 2/3 min incarn , hes already immune to damage in incarn why give him more frenzy regen power ?? im confused , the team should be too.

Blood dk , need a whole entire rework to stop his downfall , the class legit every expac get guted the moment you step into high keys , yet we wont do anything about it , lets nerf guardian druid ig , those chinese full tank comps giving y’all some high cortisol when it doesn’t matter , but when it matters , you let the class balance be in shambles.

And here comes y’all favorite , vdh , everyones nemesis , was meta on every expac at this point , till i realized some classes downgrade from tanks to dps outside of their cooldowns.

That’s about it for the summary , can’t wait for another guardian druid nerfs and prot paladin nerfs next patch , cause suddenly they are doing good.

Do not nerf fun… Look into buffing other tanks instead. Brew master monks has been the most played tank all season. And then Guardian get a buff… Now for this reset brew master and guardian is competing for most played tank.

How about you buff the other tanks instead of nerfing Guardian. They finally get some much needed love and attention and now you want to kill the spec once again?

Nerfing is not the answer this time, buffing the other specs is the answer..

i don’t care about Damage but having a druid tank do more dps than DPS itself is ridiculous. i main Tanks and honestly we need more survivability more than anything. WE AINT DPS ROLE. we’re a Tank. you know what a tank means?. i don’t see a Tank made out of cardboard and having a Artillery Turret as it’s main gun. we Soak damage not do damage that’s the Dps’s job not mine.

When was this established?

Why was druid singled out for this goal, because they bring less utility/class buff/survival compared to the other tank classes?

I really would like to see the logic behind this statement and what the apparent goals and benefits of the other tanks are compared to this.

i wouldn’t say less utility or survival druid tanks are really tanky they can even self sustain themselves. Class buffs in my experience from just playing tanks all day constantly. they are miniscule difference. the class buffs in my opinion should deffo get buffed.

They could commit to the moon Lazer bear and make a exciting rotation with Starfall and some full moon procs.

So just a little more complex rotation with something for the eye with a huge rage spender if you have tons of mitigation running.

It needs to be a little more engaging

I dont care if they nerf classes because at the average M+ player they are doing crazy amounts off damage, or healing, or able to be unkillable without a healer in dungeon content etc. But nerfing a class because 5 of the top world gamers which account for less than 1% of the players base managed something Blizzard didnt think of, thats my issue. Because its how it now affects right down the ladder to the average M+ player or even just player its gonna affect, and a hotfix that fast 100% hasnt been thought about properly.

So you’re making these changes without tuning and testing. You guys just ask AI for tuning I guess, right? And we’re paying for this.

Cool now nerf the damn Resto druid (Convoke) and Disc Priest (Mind Blast) damage output

LOL…

  1. Thrash direct damage reduced by 25%.
  2. Elune’s Favored now heals for 15% of Arcane damage dealt (was 25%).

So, you 100 % kill the Claw druid.

And you double down to kill the moon druid at the same time.

Congratulations.

Achievement unlocked a new title: “Stupid”

If you want an advice… Blizzard also has Diablo 4, and there are druids there, bear druids.

Maybe take a look at those and get some ideas.

A more rewarding play style isn’t that hard to make:

Replace

Moonless Night:
Requires Druid
Your direct damage melee abilities against enemies afflicted by Moonfire cause them to burn for an additional 20% Arcane damage.

With

Elunes Revenge:
Requires Druid
Each use of Ironfur grant a Stack of Elunes Revenge. At 20 Stacks of Elunes Ravage it gets consumed and a Full moon is cast on active Target.

And voiala you’ve got a satisfying finisher that feels good and looks good

I would rather just completely remake the bears from ground up.
